Now that everyone is discussing Nolan's Odyssey movie, I feel like it's a good time to let non-Italians know that the production dumped plastic props into the Italian sea. Weirdly enough I could not find any article in English about it but it's a fucking problem nonetheless.

I might translate this article later today. This one was the most complete one, even in Italian news it's not talked about that much.

I'm putting that in big letters. Again. This is not unusual for "on location" as a practise! You should not read this news story and think that "oh that's a terrible exception" at all! This is the normal behaviour for hollywood "on location" filming! Mad Max Fury Road DESTROYED a fragile ecosystem and the local economy filming "on location". Star Wars DESTROYED an old-growth redwood forest by filming "on location". And on and on. It has been going on for DECADES it is what "on location" MEANS. If you needed this post to tell you that then I'm glad you learned it. That's why I'm saying it.

You should assume this shit is happening whenever you see the words "filmed on location". You should not be happy about those words. They mean "ecological disaster" and usually also "labor law violations" and "safety and health violations". Directors decided to film on location because filming in a studio means having a union workforce (and paying union prices, which are FAIR to be clear), and following safety regulations in a place that is 100% ready willing and able to make them suffer consequences for violation. Filming "on location" is how they escape all of that.

Start making noise about it. Tell your friends. Clap for soundstages. Boycott the movie. Get loud on social media--Hollywood has a thin skin and this actually does matter to them even if it's only one person. Pass this story around.

Oh this is a common scam I find at work. Any file that:

isn't jpg, jpeg, pdf, or png

Is a file extension you don't recognise (this one is a visual basic file, used for scripting, but others like exe or bat are used)

has a very low or unexpected file size (this one's is less than 1KB, or 0.001MB, a good reference should be at least 500KB)

Is likely a scam. Stay safe kids.

I always thought Reddit was a place where people could share things they created.A few days ago I posted one of my original paintings. People loved it. We had wonderful conversations about art, emotions, and how everyone saw something different in the same sunset.

About two hours later I was permanently banned from r/MadeMeSmile for “self-promotion.”

I accepted that different communities have different rules.But then something even stranger happened.Soon afterward, a moderator from r/pics started going through my account. Not just the new post—many of my older painting posts disappeared as well. One after another. Then I was permanently banned there too.

Maybe it was the same moderator. Maybe it wasn’t. I honestly don’t know.

What surprised me wasn’t even the ban itself. It was realizing how much power individual moderators have over what millions of people are allowed to see. One decision can erase years of posts from a community and instantly cut off your ability to participate, even if those posts had been happily sitting there for months or years.I’m not saying moderators shouldn’t have rules. Communities need moderation.But it does make you wonder where the line is between protecting a community and allowing a single interpretation of the rules to completely reshape what people can share.

The funny part?

I wasn’t advertising anything in those posts. I wasn’t posting prices or asking anyone to buy anything. I was simply sharing my original paintings because I enjoy discussing art with strangers from around the world.

In case anyone hasn't heard, the cyclospora outbreak affecting tons of people in the US right now is coming from Taylor Farms produce. Best to stay away from bagged lettuce and prepared salads completely right now, but especially the ones mentioned in the screenshot:

This is not the first time I've heard about a Taylor Farms foodborne illness outbreak. I stopped eating their salads after reading a description of the conditions in their facilities. Doesn't sound like they've improved anything.

We need a fully funded and staffed FDA, and regulations with teeth - and that's exactly what we don't have under Trump. To make things worse, the CDC is no longer tracking these outbreaks. We're on our own.
