can we explore the implications of w101. in almost every world we face bandits and there is usually some sort of fetch quest asking the young wizard to retrieve some supplies that have been stolen. most notably i just started avalon and had to retrieve stolen grain. but irl/historically people turned to banditry when their government has failed them and they are forced to steal from other poor folks in similar dire situations where there is not enough to go around. kingsisle why is every world in the spiral failing to thrive

To be fair, every street in Wizard City is crawling with monsters, ghosts, or pissed of citizens (fire elves), Krokotopia’s more recent civilization has been attacked and had their people enslaved by a histrionic oppressor, Marleybone has a mass-murderer sociopathic criminal mastermind taking over the city, Mooshu’s emperor was just killed, Dragonspyre is literally a dead city covered in ghosts, Grizzelheim is set during the age of Vikings, Celestia is basically at war with invading archeologists and itself, Zafaria’s leaders and different villages are being infiltrated and manipulated by an enemy threat, Avalon is set in medieval times, Azteca is set in Aztec times and under threat of a cataclysm comet, and while I have no knowledge of the rest of the worlds because I don’t like spoilers I’m sure they go their reasons.

The plot of The Mitchells vs the Machines is kinda ass actually, now that I rewatched it. It promotes this "bio family is everything" thinking and like, there is kinda so little coming from the parents in terms of trying to understand her? Idk might just be my perspective but it does not feel good to me with the knowledge I have abouz family situations and neglect

I get that- I have a problems with ‘because family’ plot lines or stories- because no- if your family is neglectful or abusive (emotionally, psychologically or physically) or if they have opinions or believes that actively threaten your existence (I have little to no contact with multiple extended family members due to homophobia and maga) than yeah you have every right to cut them out of your life-

However

I don’t think the Mitchell’s qualify. Rick and Linda Mitchell don’t always understand their kids- but do love them unconditionally- and we’re shown in the scenes when Katie is little (first day of school, the karaoke scenes) that her and her father were very close- they just grew apart due to disparate interests and an unwillingness to bend. That’s the point of the story- they both realize that they both have parts to play in their rift- not because of their differences- but because of their stubbornness. It takes them both to fix their rift.

It reminds me a lot of the relationship I had with my dad- he was a farmer, fishing focused, sports- while I was more interested in video games, art, and writing- and the older I got the harder it was for him to relate to me. It was actually this movie that made me realize how far apart we had drifted- and I actually tried to get him to watch it with me and see that we could grow closer if we both tried to. Unfortunately- we never got the chance.

I- hold this movie close to my heart in that sense- so maybe I’m biased- but I hope you enjoyed reading this

I took my little brother (autistic, mostly non verbal) out and he was using his voice keyboard to tell me something, and this little boy (maybe 4 or 5?) heard him and asked me "Is he a robot??" I tried to explain to him that no, he isn't a robot, he just communicates differently, but my darling brother was in the background max volume "I am robot I am robot I am robot I am robot"

My little brother insisted if I was going to post about him, he wanted a cut of the "profits". When I explained to him that Tumblr isn't monetized, and is pretty pointless, he and my older brother pointed out that he'd still be bringing me "fame and notoriety" if the post got "big". So we agreed, if the post hit 10k notes, which seemed extremely farfetched and silly at the time, I'd take my little brother out for sushi (his favorite food) and let him eat as much as he wants.

I guess God wanted the little robot to enjoy some sushi 🍣 🥲

Hot Take: Big Mouth is a good fucking show and is actually super educational and inclusive about a wide range of topics, practically becoming the Sex Ed people never had.

It was mainly pearl clutching tumblr libs with right-wing evangelical christian ideas about sex who hated it. On top of that, most of the people who hated it never even watched it. The show supports trans people, openly talked about consent, was informative about genital hygiene, was super supportive of girls sexual development and insisted on kids taking responsibility for their actions as well as seeing sexual partners as people - not just objects. It's quite literally some of the most radical sex ed ever.

But some of you dunked on it cause it had an 'ugly' art style - as though that wasn't on purpose to stop actual creeps from being able to ruin this genuinely informative show with scores of underage internet fap.

I'm 31 years old and Big Mouth was one of the first shows I watched that talked about girls being horny without suggesting it was weird, hyper focusing on virginity or having one of the girls be sexually assaulted. As someone whose sex ed was in the early 2000's - that's fucking revolutionary.

All the trolls in this universe are based off of prehistoric sea creatures. For Blinky, he is inspired by a frankenprawn, a deep sea fish with excellent eye sight existing from the Cambrian Period ( 500 million years ago). There is also some manatee and peacock mantis thrown in there too. (Plus Blinky’s eye stalks are a reference to the original blinky design of the books.)

I decided to change his outfit to sea weed, inspired by the Luca designs which gave me the idea. And the bag upgrade was just a personal touch, this Blinky’s got standards and style.

Au where ford actually kept track of Stan a little bit more than in canon. I’m talking the man would cast spells and ask the mail box “is my brother alive” or “where is my brother”

But of course because I love myself some angst, Fords questions were worded in such a way that he ONLY knew his brother was alive—but being alive doesn’t equal being okay. He gets his brothers location, but being realistic do you think Ford would think that he’s traveling so much because he’s running away or because he’s successful and LIKES to travel. “Oh look Stanley’s taking a vacation in Colombia. Although that’s a long vacations it’s been months… he must be pretty rich thanks to his products!” (Because remember ford had seen Stan’s commercials, so ford follows his line of logic to be that Stan is pretty successful.)

Of course one day Ford finally asks a slightly different question, one that crumples the narrative he created in his mind, “How is Stanley doing?”

And that’s when he learns that his brother is currently being transported to a hospital. That his brother is on the verge of death due to malnutrition, hypothermia, and because of an infected untreated wound. That his brother hasn’t been okay the last few years.

He learns that he asked all the wrong questions.

Day off - apparently making myself sad for fun is the hyper fixation for the day. After meeting Mica, Durge tried to leave the cult. The problem is, he was Orins companion since she was born…probably the only positive relationship she’d had by the time she turned 13. Despite killing all those sacrifices on Bhaals alter in thier youth. Betrothed before each of them were born, they spent so much time together when they were little and there were small moments of sweetness in them when the cult wasn’t watching. But that sweetness faded fast. When Durge finds Mica, they plan to run in the night, and he wants Orin to come. But it’s all Orin knows, her mother tried to kill her and she sees herself as chosen to explain that horribleness away. To leave the cult means she has to deal with everything and she simply cannot. Rather than leave with Durge, she sells him out. Thinking if Mica is gone, Durge will stay and she won’t be alone in the temple.

Durge kills Mica as the request of the cult, unlocks his slayer form and the last bit of innocence he held is burned away. In that instant whatever part of Durge that gave Orin comfort, burned away too.

A nice lose lose lose. 😭
