I visited my family in Picayune, Mississippi last summer. My overall experience down south was good. Had a couple of firsts: being on a plane, being out of state as an adult, meeting my family from picayune, Mississippi, eating potatoe salad and bread pudding, going to a club, cock roaches with wings chillin in bushes like its nothing, and don't get me started on that heat.Had an excellent time at the reunion in New Orleans.Met a lot of family that I didn't even know existed. Although some of us are not related by blood, I still accept and love you as my fam. met my biological father and saw my biological mother for the first time in 10 years. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. I have finally forgiven my parents for what they did and I am ready to move forward and build relationships with them. I'll never forget tho. thank u everyone for a wonderful experience. And I'll definitely be back.

Hello my name is Rhonesha Victor; I'm a 24 year old college student working at Kfc/Taco bell here in Oakland. I have been a resident of Oakland my entire life and I am proud to call it my home. I have been working for kfc/taco bell for two years and I currently make $9.75 an hour with an average of 26 hours a week. Although I make 75 cents more than California’s current minimum wage, it is still a struggle to get by. I live with my elderly disabled parents who have been unable to work for over 10 years. We rely on my job, their SSI checks, section 8, and visiting our local food bank and churches for groceries.

I support the lift up Oakland campaign’s to raise the minimum wage, provide sick days and protect workers against wage theft. More than 30,000 people signed the petition to put this measure on the ballot and a lot of community organizers support it.

Most people who go out to vote don’t fully read the ballots and if they do they completely understand it. If you grab the average person and gave them a choice to choose between $12.25 hour and $13.00, naturally they would go for the $13.00. But do they realize that wouldn’t go into effect until 2018? Oakland workers need this raise now. This plan will help my family and my community grow. I urge you to let voters decide and not put a competing measure on the ballot.

This year I attended my first pride parade celebration. It was amazing! Peace, Love and equality filled the air. It was a wonderful experience and i will definitely be going next year :-)
