@roogrowshome-blog
imagine talking about alexander the great and not mentioning that he died of grief only 8 months after hephaestion died, that he petitioned the oracle to give hephaestion literal divine status so that people could worship him as a god, that he threw himself on hephaestion’s dead body and refused to leave for two days, that he put together the biggest funeral procession known to the world at the time, that he gave hephaestion a lock of his own hair at the funeral in blatant reference to achilles doing the same with patroclus….like heteronormativity is so wild that he could come back from the dead and come out to every historian personally and it still wouldn’t be enough to render him anything but straight
The father of all dramatic gays/bisexuals
you can make nearly any object into a good insult if you put ‘you absolute’ in front of it
example: you absolute coat hanger
as well u can just add ‘ed’ to any object and it’s sounds like you were really drunk
example: i was absolutely coat hangered last night
#i was gazeboed mate #i was absolutely baubled
Meanwhile, “utter” works for the first (e.g., “you utter floorboard”) but somehow “utterly” doesn’t seem to work as well for the second (“I was utterly floorboarded”).
Utterly doesn’t work for drunk because it’s the affix for turning random objects into terms for *shocked*, obviously.
… huh. I thought that might just be the similarity to “floored”, and yet “I was utterly coat hangered” does seem to convey something similar.
I have to tell you, I am utterly sandwiched at this discovery.
Completely makes the phrase mean “super tired”.
“God, it’s been a long week, I am completely coat-hangered.”
Something is
Something is wrong with our language
Is it a glitch or a feature?
Feature
this neat feature is called collocative substitution, and it occurs when certain words are strongly linked to certain context and/or phrases. when you read/hear a pair of words that usually wouldn’t go together, your brain fills in the context with what would normally be inferred, given the originally phrased pairing. thus, finding out that there’s a term for this phenomenon may indeed leave you utterly sandwiched. lesser known or less strongly linked phrases and pairings may not be able to translate substituted words to appropriately fit the inferred context, so you were not utterly floorboarded at the club last night, but rather you were absolutely floorboarded, and as this explanation continues to drag on, you may by the end of it find yourself completely coathangered from read it all.

Nunnally: Morse code. They’re talking.
Suzaku: -. — / ..- .-. / - …. . / -.-. ..- - . … -
Lelouch: [slams hands on table] YOU TAKE THAT BACK

lmao on the edinburgh zoo site it says “there is a daily penguin parade at 14:15 but it may be cancelled last minute as it is a voulntary parade, we do not coax the penguins with food, and they may not want to go out” lmao anarchopenguinism
this is the cutest goddamn thing i’ve ever heard
I saw the penguin parade. It was a very slow parade, because the pingüinos take their sweet time and aren’t very fast walkers to begin with.
can I volunteer to be a penguin
I feel like the world needs to know the context of the edinburgh zoo penguin parade, becausr I’ve been going there my entire life and I only found out about this the other year.
So a while back (I can’t remember exactly when but I think it was some time around the 40s/50s), a bunch of penguins escaped. A keeper left the gate open so a bunch of penguins just… followed them. And the people loved it. Look at these adorable birds outside their cage just following that guy around! So they get all the penguins back inside and realise that none of them really ran off, they just followed the keeper and went back inside and crowd thought it was amazing, so why not make it a regular thing? Get enough people there that if one of them goes to make a run for it (which at least one has in the past), they can’t get past the people, and let the ones who want outside have a little wander. So every day, they get a crowd, they open the gate, and whatever penguins want to get out can go, waddle about, squawk at people, and then hop back inside.
Also, one of those penguins is Brigadier Sir Nils Olaf III, Colonel-in-cheif of the Norwegian King’s Guard. This isn’t really related to the parade at all, I just love the fact that there’s a penguin in the Norwegian army
Reblogging with Brigadier Sir Nils Olaf III inspecting his troops.
Carry on …
I love everything about this post.
If I fail to reblog this it is because I am dead.
Dear youngins,
When you start a job, WRITE DOWN THE DATE YOU STARTED. Also the date you ended, if it ended. Write down the address. Write down the supervisors name.
You have NO IDEA how many forms this will be on. Seriously. I dont care if you have to email it to yourself on your hello kitty email or something, write it down and keep it.
Also!! The date any promotion or pay raise is implemented!!
^^^ They seriously ask for this on so many job forms.
Honestly, the best option is to keep it saved in some sort of document on your computer or phone. I use a certain template and just copy and paste it, and refill it every time I go to a new job. Maybe it’ll help others, so here’s the template I personally use.
(Name of the place you’re working at) Supervisor/Boss name: Address: Phone number: Job Title: Starting pay: Ending pay: Reason for leaving: Start (From): End (To):
It’s all shit that you’ll be asked on pretty much any job application. So go forth and be organized kids.
It’s also nice to keep a semi-updated list of references! I have a word document with job history (which includes info from @asidewalksymphony’s post, as well as a general summary of duties) and one with references. I never delete old references, I just add new ones to the top. I try to update all of this, as well as my resume, whenever I’m about to start or leave a job, or a couple of times per year.
Remember to ask your references whether they’re willing to be a reference for you!
also keep track of all the days you work just in case a boss or supervisor tries to snuff you when it comes to money. Esp do this if there is no computer where you clock in and out to work!!
XIII Ways to Be a Lady
I. Always call and return your mother’s calls as promptly as you possibly can. Remind her in every conversation how appreciative you are – how much you love, miss and adore her. II. Make it a ritual to smile every morning. Doing so will send signals to the brain making it think it’s happy. Smiling is associated with happiness; this will naturally help the brain release endorphins (a chemical that promotes a healthy, elevated attitude). Maintaining a balanced diet and consistent workout regimen helps as well. III. Invest no time on men who feel indifferent towards your interests. A man who does not care what melodies ignite your heart strings with love, or exchanges words of endearment, is a man not worth getting to know. Real men know to cater to their significant other – internal and external. IV. Keep all negative social media activities to a minimum, no real lady engages or wastes time on things like Twitter subtweets or passive-aggressive Facebook statuses. Social media is démodé. V. Broaden your horizons. Become well-rounded, learn a new language, read more books, watch classic foreign films, subscribe to travelogue, take a culinary course! Culture yourself, actually know what you are talking about. No one likes a pretentious snob. VI. Stop looking at marriage as the defining endeavor in a woman’s life, no matter how much it has been ingrained into you. It should neither be something you actively disdain, nor something you seek out with deadlines. It’ll happen when you’re ready. VII. Never allow anyone to stop you from crying. Crying cleanses the soul. All you need is a rose petal bubble bath, aromatherapy and chamomile tea. Immerse yourself in a chocolate coma at Max Brenner if you must. Comfort food was made for moments like these. VIII. Your home should be a reflection of who you are. Keep fresh-cut flowers in your home, scented candles (personally, I love Diptyque and Jo Malone fragrance oils). Acquire a signature wine and master a delectable dish you can always serve to your guest – be a great hostess! IX. Show respect to people who don’t even deserve it; not as a reflection of their character, but as a reflection of yours. What you say about others says a lot more about you. X. Date the kind of person who will still respect you when you no longer love them. Date the kind of person who will still respect you when they no longer love you. Do not waste your emotional capacities on individuals whose respect for you is conditional. XI. Have at least one outfit ready in your wardrobe for almost every occasion: job interview, your first date, family events etc. The amount of headaches that can be spared by simply having a versatile blazer, LBD and pencil skirt at one’s disposal are incalculable. XII. What would Grace Kelly do? When in doubt, Rosé. XIII. Live by this quote: “Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.” —Kurt Vonnegut
