Tfw you’re so low on art energy ‘cause of summer heat lately (+other irl stuff) that you can only muster up enough to draw memes- 😭💔
But hey, any excuse to draw more Willy is good by me~ 😌💚⚜️
People defending the way Lily was written by saying that "CRK has had mentally ill characters before" but like. Most of them are poorly written, too. A lot of the characters' trauma and whatnot is overlooked
Burning Spice's motivations are reduced to "boredom" and Golden Cheese is never given a chance to see that it was deeper than that. Strawberry witnessed the witches eating cookies firsthand and we almost never hear about it again. Pure Vanilla is implied to have an eating disorder and it's hardly ever addressed. His trauma regarding what happened to the Vanilla Kingdom is also barely addressed after Timeless Kingdom. Pom Pom Dough is a disabled, enslaved child soldier and Pure Vanilla had the whole alliance gang up on her with no hesitation or remorse. Strawberry Crepe is a lonely child with no legal guardians who woke up to their home in ruins and everyone gone and is the only other current citizen of the Vanilla Kingdom besides Pure Vanilla that was here before the war, and we barely get a deep dive into how they feel about that or their relationship with Pure Vanilla. Eternal Sugar's point was proven when she stepped out of the garden and was set on fire and killed. Custard III also has no legal guardians and his dad seems to be either missing or dead and we barely get anything probing at his feelings about that beyond a single kingdom line saying "I miss my dad." Lily wasn't even the only suicidal character to die in episode 15- every other prominent suicidal character died with their point being proven, and they were absorbed by Shadow Milk- the one who wanted to live- so he can get even stronger and become the main antagonist of act 2
I'm not saying that crk hasn't had well written mentally ill characters- I would say Stardust is pretty good suicidal representation- but like. It's not enough to simply say "this character is x representation." We must always ask "is this character GOOD representation?" If all a creator needs to do is make a character mentally ill for it to be good, then the bar is so low you could step over it
Edited because I somehow forgot Pom Pom Dough even tho she's literally one of the best examples of this. We barely get to hear about the Dough Trio or Matcha overall
I want to add with
Elder faerie was also mentally ill, like dude just keeps on saying "I'll die protecting thsu tree" "I don't mind dying it is my duty as the guardian" etc etc
He was also killed off while still in the belief that he was supposed to die and him dying while protecting the tree was something that was supposed to happen.
It didn't affect the plot THAT negatively but I still think they kind of gave a weird message with it.
I do like the detail that Lily seems to tie Charcoal’s hair in a braid better than Pastry, its so cute
Aww the concept of Lily teaching Charcoal and Pastry how to braid hair
"I don't understand super-dude, why have you not killed this clearly irredeemably evil villain?""I have.""What?""I've killed him multiple times, but every time I do, some sort of massive cosmic retcon thing occurs shortly after, bringing him back, and I don't know why."
IT'S CALLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COMPASSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT EMPATHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE WORD YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IS COMPASSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"You fooled the god of tricks. You outsmarted the god of knowledge. You even brought life where Nature itself dared not tread. Yet, you are just a man. Who are you?!"
I miss Freedom Trio
In my heart their currently planting more flowers together in the Great Barren
Guys... You all realize that when we talk about racism and whitewashing and orientalism and whatnot in the Cookie Run fandom, we do not mean to say that these characters are LITERALLY poc, right? I'm noticing too many of you trying to dismiss conversations like this by saying that "they're just cookies" and they don't have human races... well, DUH. The point is that the worldbuilding is still very obviously based off of real human cultures, so the racism of the real world often bleeds into the way people talk about these characters. This is such a simple concept, how are people not grasping this. Even if the characters are fictional, racism is a real thing. Yes, there are better ways to help poc, but I yeah I actually do think people have a right to be frustrated with the way non white characters are treated by creators and fandoms because it's just one instance of a bigger issue. Even Devsis manages to feel racist about these characters sometimes
I think a lot of the problems with Burning Spice and the way his trauma was written could be improved by showing him being more active and present in these communities. Burning Spice's descent into madness was caused by having to watch things be born and thrive only for them to be destroyed, being born to embrace change yet being forced to watch the same thing over and over. This is what caused the "boredom" (depression). Eras in history ending for new ones to be birthed is only natural, but the thought of actually living long to enough to witness it happen over and over...
But- not to undermine his trauma- he didn't really have to witness any of it first hand, he was only being told about what's happening in these cultures, which kinda makes me wonder what his job even was? 😭 I think that showing him actively participating in these communities and caring about them would've gotten the point across better and make the whole thing feel more personal. Instead the whole thing was executed in a strange way which is why I think so many people think that the issue actually was just boredom
I like to think that he was involved at first, but slowly distanced himself to the point we see in Dominion of the Beasts after losing so many loved ones and seeing so many places he called home fall to ruin. He probably thought that being distant, more of a king on a throne than a leader on the ground, would spare him the pain of seeing life wither into death, but it didn't. It only made the cycle worse, as now he had no positive connections to cope with his growing hopelessness. By the time he corrupts, he's been distant for so long he can no longer find it in him to care about the lives he ends.
I'm crying you managed to give him more depth and do him more justice just with this post than Devsis ever has 😭
Unfortunately, not difficult. Monkeys on a typewriter could do him more justice than the current writing.
I wonder why the darkest skinned Beast is reduced to just being angry and violent. Truly a mystery.
