getting back into my childhood Pokémon phase of all things. umbreon my beloved
love it when fma just says the quiet part out loud
[insert “i know writers who use subtext and they’re all cowards” here]
One of my favourite bits in fma is how during the final arc they bring up why attempting human stransmutation is forbidden, as the readers we've seen what happens when an attempt fails with Ed and Al, so of course the logical explanation is that "it's too dangerous to attempt", or even "it goes against the natural way the world works, it's monstruous in nature and impossible".
But then Arakawa in her infinite wisdom as a writer goes, lol no, the goverment has been making flesh monsters with human transmutations in secret for years, they forbid it so that nobody can't even come close to attempting to create a personal army that cannot feel pain

can we talk more about hair ties being unsafe for kitties? I have not heard this before and thought they were a safe toy?
They're a choke hazard and can potentially cause fatal intestinal blockages.
Generally when it comes to safe toys for cats, assume that if you wouldn't let a baby/toddler play with and chew on something, probably your cat shouldn't either. (Fuzzyness aside. I probably wouldn't let a baby chew on a wool dryer ball, but I do let the cats do that) They don't have thumbs and if they start swallowing something, they struggle to stop.
So from a size standpoint, you don't generally want to let cats play with stuff small enough to be swallowed. A big puffy scrunchie is probably fine, but this kind of hair tie? nope. Mayhem goes to great lengths to steal these and I'm constantly chasing her down for them.
It’s not just hair ties, it’s anything that is long and stringy in shape. The issue with these^ is that if they are bitten in half they become a long elastic string.
Basically, if these get stuck in the digestive track, it can cause the intestines to bunch up like an accordion. And possibly tear. Not good.
If your pet likes to pick the strings out of rope toys- mine do- then be aware those are not safe toys for them either.
That's a good clarification, thank you for pointing that out! Notably, it's not uncommon for cats to swallow things unintentionally just because the item is in their mouth and it's a reflex. This can happen when they're just playing and not trying to actually eat something.
May also be prudent to say should your cat actually consume a long stringy object don’t attempt to quickly pull the object out of the cats mouth. As tempting as it may be and as much as it is the initial panic response, pulling sharply can also cause tears and internal damage in the stomach and oesophageal tract.
Take hold of your cat, and hold the object to try to ensure it’s not fully consumed, note if they are able to breath around the object. You want to barely be tugging at all on the string, your main focus is to stop it going further in and allow your cat to regurgitate it safely. Get them to a vet afterwards to be safe.
If the string is consumed try to establish how long it may be and what it may be made of and pass that into your vet.
Cynodonts were one of the few lineages of synapsids ("protomammals") to survive through the Great Dying mass extinction into the Triassic. And while a major branch of cynodonts known as probainognathians would eventually go on to produce the ancestors of modern mammals, for much of the Triassic a separate branch called cynognathians were initially much more diverse and numerous.
Exaeretodon argentinus was a large traversodontid cynognathian, growing up to about 1.8m long (~6'), known from the Late Triassic (~234-227 million years ago) of what is now northwestern Argentina. It was a low-slung animal with short stocky limbs, sprawling at the front and semi-upright at the back, and had a large head with a fairly short narrow snout and wide flaring cheekbones accommodating massive jaw muscles.
Although it it had large fang-like canine teeth, further back in its jaws wide molar-like grinding teeth show it was a specialized herbivore – at least as an adult. Different skull proportions in juveniles suggest that young Exaeretodon may have actually started out life as omnivorous or carnivorous, with jaws better suited for crushing hard-shelled invertebrate prey.
One Exaeretodon specimen shows evidence of severe rib injuries that would have hindered its mobility and made it very difficult to forage for food or avoid predators. But in this case those injuries were healed, suggesting this species may have lived in social groups that helped to protect each other.

I think Seven Havens is the perfect time to bring back the Kyoshi Warriors. With advanced technology, the warriors' uniforms can be holograms instead, allowing them to travel in plainclothes as covert supporters of the Avatar. And the uniforms come onto them magical-girl style.
this is the Phoenix zoo, she's got plenty of outdoor space 👍
I'll also say she looks super healthy and happy in that video so she probably loves her cool concrete room #myconkrete
Tyrannosaurus rex (the name, not the animal) is 114 years old today! Happy Birthday! In her honour, I drew this quick colour sketch (limited to 1 hour) with some inspiration from watercolour god Frank Eber. It is not snowing in this scene. Hope youse all enjoy!

If you are from Tennessee, contact your representatives and make it clear that the people do not want this data center. This is an AZA accredited zoo which is home to several species of critically endangered animals, we NEED to protect it. Make your voice heard!
oviraptor mom and her odd-looking but still very good son
watching my husband get diagnosed with and treated for sleep apnea over the last year was not the thing that radicalized me re: weight and healthcare but my goodness it has solidified my stances.
sleep apnea is more common in people who are fat.
society decided for some reason that this meant that being fat causes sleep apnea. its often difficult to get referrals for sleep apnea treatment if you are fat, because some PCPs will tell you try losing weight first.
turns out!! having untreated sleep apnea causes weight gain in a not-insignificant number of people. it also makes it fucking impossible for many people to lose weight.
my husband worked out the same amount before he got a cpap as he does now. there have been no major diet changes either. yet he has been losing weight -- and gaining muscle tone -- consistently since he started using a cpap in january.
also, his blood pressure -- which was high, which docs blamed on his weight/diet -- went down significantly within one month of starting cpap treatment, before his weight changed significantly.
ANYWAYS. this is getting long. two final thoughts.
- I Want To Strangle Medical Fatphobia With My Bare Fucking Hands
- if you are exhausted constantly for "no reason", and especially if you snore, you should probably ask your doctor about getting tested for sleep apnea. it is extremely common -- estimates are around 1 in 10 people -- and is also wildly under-diagnosed. like, some estimates suggest that 80% of people with moderate-severe sleep apnea are undiagnosed.
Bad news, friends. I no longer have a guest room.
This is Mayhem's bedroom. She stole it fair and square...
... And she's not giving it back.
Her room now.
