Why does their being mostly women matter?

Because, statistically speaking, 64% of lawyers in the United States are men, meaning that the majority of the demographic showing up should reflect this. It is also interesting to note that only 27% of American born lawyers are female- that means that a lot of these women are likely immigrants or foreign born. We have a majority of women showing up in a field where they are a minority; women who dropped everything to help defend human rights and the country. There’s no cis-male equivalency to pregnancy, but if you fail to see the importance and stength of a woman who might feasibly go into labour at any second still standing up for what is right and good whilst the majority of politicians are cowering, then I can’t help you.

Question: if I see someone pull off a Hijab, what should I do? I know there are reasons they are worn so I want to if i should stand in between them and who did this, should i protect them from view somehow, or something else? This has been happening a lot so I feel it’s something everyone needs to know.

“my opinion is, definitely try cover them or give them something to cover themselves with. And perhaps shoo off the person, without putting oneself in danger! God forbid, if that happened to me, I would like someone to come and comfort me and give me something to cover my hair with and then help me report it to the cops “

ftr this bill is officially called “Protect The National Security Council From Political Interference Act” (link to official congressional info re: the bill and where it stands)

I called Representative Murphy’s office today and talked with a staffer - I’m not from Florida, and I told them so upfront, and asked how I could support this bill in my home state. The staffer said to definitely call my own state Representative and Senators, both - if we can find a Senator to support the bill, they can introduce it into the Senate and it can be voted on in both houses of Congress at the same time. IF YOU HAVE A DEMOCRATIC SENATOR, PLEASE CALL THEM AND ALERT THEM TO THE EXISTENCE OF THIS MEASURE, AND ASK THEM TO INTRODUCE IT TO THE SENATE.

He also said that calls to Representative Murphy’s office definitely help, in terms of tallying support for the measure in general.

Emphasize Bannon’s white supremacist ideology and his stated intention to destroy the state, and – especially with Republicans – MAKE IT PERSONAL. i have like 6 messages in my inbox about how nice it feels to say politely, “Please tell the Senator that if she does not stand against Steve Bannon’s poisonous and destructive agenda, my community and I will ensure that someone else wins her seat in the next election. Dudes, I called Stephanie Murphy’s office number too and was like, “yeah, I’m totes not a constituent but blessings be upon her house” (not exact quote, not even a little), and the staffer was like, “but where are you calling from? for curiosity/records?” and I was like, “lol Michigan” and she audibly did a doubletake and went, “cool cool cool but have you called your–” and I was like, “GURL I called both senators and my congresswoman first” and she did a SECOND audible doubletake and was like, “well, that’s super cool. thank you for doing a good thing” and i was like, “no YOU” and she was like, “no YOU” and we ended the phone call with mutual good vibes.

In short, I recommend calling this lady and letting her know she’s the bee’s knees and not just because it’s the right thing to do, but apparently they don’t know we appreciate this kind of thing? Let this woman know she’s the cat’s meow. Because she is.

Update: Senator Mark Warner has introduced a similar bill in the Senate, the Strengthening Oversight of National Security Act, to codify who may serve on the NSC and requires the consent of Congress to add anyone besides a few specific officials (like the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff).
