Hello! Ahh I’m the mod that initially started this blog, I guess stuff happened? For me personally I’ve tried to come back while dealing with personal issues but I guess since the whole incident with the open letter made it difficult and confusing. So I suppose I kind of fell out of rwby for a bit. Not entirely though but yknow.

I guess I’m the only one on the blog now too hehe oh well ovo” But yeah I don’t know what else to say about why this blog has been kinda dead for a while.

A Few Character Creation Tips

Here are some ideas for getting to know your original characters. These have proved to be very helpful techniques for me.

Take personality tests from the perspective of the character (finding out their MBTI type is pretty useful).

Set up a private Tumblr blog, and reblog posts there that remind you of certain characters (then, later, you can go through the tag you made for them, for reference).

On the private blog, use one of those character pages, and fill it out with mini bios for each character (you can even use photos of people who remind you of the characters if the page allows for icons).

Create a spreadsheet that lists the characters on one side, put generic profile questions on the other side, and fill it out for each character. I got most of my questions from OkCupid.

Make playlists for each of the characters, and fill them with songs that remind you of them, or that you think they’d like.

Try to consciously think about how certain characters would respond to situations you come across in your day-to-day life. Or, how they’d act if they were part of the movie/show/book you’re currently into.

If you know other writers, ask if you can RP as your own characters with them. It doesn’t even have to be relevant to the plot of your own story. Just RP back and forth with other people, in character, to get a better understanding of how they’d interact with others.

Hello and sorry, i asked the question in the submit section earlier. So , i am making a OC and got the basic ideas like color, legend and items down, but would like to refine them, if u could give your view it would be a great help.

Hey, I've been making a team of OC's recently, and I was wondering about something related to semblances. I want one of my OCs' semblances to be the manipulation of fear, or the ability to induce or redirect fear in his opponents. Would this be considered too OP? Thanks for the help!

well i think that’d largely depend on how you did it. it’s also worth noting that every single semblance we’ve seen in rwby so far has only affected physical things, not mental/emotional, so it’s worth taking time and considering that as well~

Hi, i was wondering if u can help with my character. She's a bat faunus with the design somewhat based on alucard(hellsing), i wanted ideas for some sutble traits to show she's fanus and i think the fangs are a given, also for a weapon - a gun that changes into a sword with dispossable dust blades(she has good control over dust and can can solidify dust into crystal like cinder), is a good idea?

ok so for design traits, apart from fangs the first thing that comes to mind for me is the ears, bats have very distinctive ears and they rely on them a lot, so maybe look into that? also the general face shape could be something to work on, i’d suggest looking up some reference images of various species of bat~

also that sounds like an A++ weapon :D

Hi there! I started making a team a long time ago but never got to finishing it, and I've decided to finish up what I have! it's based more or less on witches-- but the team name is SAGE. Since that's already a canon character, should I change the name?

hm… i think you can definitely get away with it as long as none of the characters are named sage~ it really comes down to preference, if you’re really worried about it maybe you could change the spelling? SAYG or something of the sort?

Hey there! I'm super glad I found a blog like this one, I always go over board with OCs every new RWBY season, lol. Currently I'm fleshing out an OC which is loosely based on the The Black Swan. So she's a ballerina (also a swan fanus, equipped with useless wings). I really want her outfit to portray this, without making it so obvious and on the nose. Also, some semblance help would be awesome. Any suggestions?

hey i’m a new mod here so i’m kinda nervous about the helping thing but i’ll do my best :3

ok so the best piece of advice i can give is to look at some different leotards and stuff for ideas. from there you can tweak and personalize it, just as an example you could add a hood, or an asscape, or any number of things :’3 with rwby, a lot of the outfits tend to have a ‘base’ that builds off the character’s background but with some modern elements. for example ren’s outfit is on the more traditional side, but he has more modern slacks to go with it, better for combat~

as for a semblance, it depends on her fighting style, if she incorporates dancing, perhaps something to do with music/sound?

I really need help with character design I have no idea how to design her, all I know is that she may use a Scythe that also turns into a sniper rifle

ok well i’d suggest working on 2 things first:

personality and fighting style.

now personality will help influence and define the fighting style, but once you have a rough idea of both those things it become easier to move onto a physical design: what kind of outfit she wears, how she has her hair etc. etc. will all be at least somewhat built around those two things :3

What exactly do you do? Because I have a RWBY OC and I'm new to the whole OC thing…

Good question.Originally when I started this blog the goal was to gather a bunch of reference images, colour references, name references, mythology references, etc to help provide a sort of database of ideas for people to use and have for their ocs. Because meanwhile I had my boyfriend over on rwby-oc-makerhelper doing his thing and answering questions people had about their ocs like weapon help, what sort of semblance would be good for this type of character, etc.Though over time I got questions like that too and I decided, "eh why not I'll try my best to help out." Though I'm a bit shy and not as confident in my abilities to answer, still am but I put as much effort as I can to be helpful.Long story short I guess I answer questions you may have about your rwby ocs, and I blog other helpful stuff too.
