Just started thinking this shot is from Guts pov, because it’s what he always flashes back to, and from the angle it was drawn, that means Guts looked back!! I always thought after he left Griffith kneeling in the snow he never looked back but he did!!

Now that we know that Guts is partly an astral being, I'm so intrigued by the possibility that Guts' transformations might have been literal. I mean, probably not but wouldn’t it be so fun? If Miura really was working on this reveal for 20 years, who knows, maybe it was early foreshadowing.

There have been characters questioning if Guts really is a human and Jill said that for a moment he looked like a terrifying monster to her. Before, it read as them being taken aback by his seemingly superhuman abilities and how he's scarier than the literal monsters sometimes, and it IS that too, but I wonder...

I had noticed that Griffith seems to be able to sense the Beast of Darkness on Elf Island, but now I'm considering Griffith actually saw what we saw. And even if not, knowing what we know now, this could be Griffith recognizing Guts is like him. Why he then went to Casca is something I need to ponder some more, though.

I think these panels work extremely well as metaphorical representations of Guts' anger and Miura was excellent at using visual language to convey feelings, but them being literal is a fun concept I wouldn’t mind them exploring and a great opportunity to show that there was always something more to Guts. I might slip it into a fanfic, at least...
