The True Trayvon Martin

He didn’t eat pork bc his father didn’t. Once his uncle fixed pork chops; they smelled so good,he called them “beef chops” & ate 1. #Trayvon

WHY AN EMOJI SHOW? Emojis are arguably the most pure form of communication. A lengthy written statement could be more effectively (and quickly) communicated by only a couple of carefully selected characters.  The emoji is a contemporary hieroglyph - a sort of digital form of cave painting.

Despite their widespread use, emojis remain confined to the screens of our iPhones. Perhaps words are more appropriate for physical communication while pictures are more appropriate for digital communication? Regardless, the emoji naturally exists in a digital environment - pixels, vectors, and glowing screens.

The Back-2-School Emoji Show seeks to expand our understanding of the emoji - beyond the icon to something of broader cultural significance. Do Emojis shape out understanding of food, nature, and people? Think URL —> IRL.

DETAILS The show will consist of emoji-inspired artwork with a goal of exhibiting every emoji (on the standard iPhone keyboard). We will keep an up to date list of available emojis at team-b.co, where artists can select up to 3 emojis to represent.

OUTCOMES Exhibition: A month long exhibition will take place September, 2014 with an opening party on the Final Friday of August.

Catalog: The contents of the Show will be published into an IRL catalog of objects.

Pop-Up Market: The Show will also feature emoji-themed merchandise, available to purchase throughout the month of the show at Rock Paper Scissors.

I’m working on a tshirt-design for Warp Records For that I was browsing my old MR images (I’ve already made an animated version earlier). I thought if I would place the slices (frames) as a sequence in space it would give a semi-3d object. And it works!!
