update ramble sims talk

Since i've been sick, i've been gaming a lot in bed. Mostly TS2, TS4 and a little bit of Postal 2.

I made a list of all the games that i own and realized i have a huge backlog of games to play.

Most importantly, I've been having some problems with TS2, so i decided to "upgrade" to The Ultimate Collection, as it seems everyone is playing that version and i own most of the expansion packs anyway. Yes, I had been playing TS2 from a disk install, the same disks i bought 11 years ago. I think I deserve the upgrade /s

Anyway, i wanted to re install the game but i dont have my disks here, so I'll install The Ultimate Collection and continue playing there. I wanted to try out some challenges and "game modes". Right now i'm planning a town for a rural Harvest Moon kind of thing where you control a sim in a big empty lot in an empty hood and you start a farm and shit. The hood would be all forest, with one community lot that is like a big forest park kind of place, and maybe there would be a small house with an elderly couple or something. Apart from that there would be a "downtown" subhood where the town is; kinda like the only town there is nearby. The goal would be to have a farm and marry and have kids and maybe become a plantsim or something.

So yeah, i'll try that and see how it goes. Maybe i'll even gather some courage (and hardrive space) and record some of the gameplay, with or without commentary. Some fun stuff happened in my rotational custom hood, so i'm sure fun stuff will happen when i play this "challenge" too. I would also like to play a Build A City Challenge; i stumbled upon it last night and it seems like a lot of fun.

My download is halfway done, so i'll go prepare some files to make it playable as soon as it finishes. Thank you if you read this far, here's a screenshot for you. NEL <3

A (somewhat edited) stream of consciousness ramble about TS4 (plus a pretty screenshot)

One thing i won't deny is that this is a beautiful game. I haven't modified this screenshot in any way, the game did this on its own. I can't remember if it looked this good when it came out, but that may have to do with the fact that i used to play it on a literal toaster.

I don't play at the highest setting cause my computer needs manteinance but this place looks fantastic! The same cannot be said for the rest of the game though. I don't know why it is, maybe it's the art style, but a lot of the time it looks like the world is just a big toy. That could also be cause I'm used to TS3, where everything is a lot more realistic, and TS2, where everything looks like an old game cause it is an old game. I'm not dissing any of the games, i'm just saying that maybe i still need to get used to this one. The effects are very nice, i like the shadows, love the subtle depth of field, i'm just not sure i like the art style just yet.

All of that being said, I'm still not sure how i feel about this game. Maybe it's a negative bias i have from the disappointment i felt when i played this game for the first time. I'm enjoying it now, but i can't forget that this is the most shallow game in the franchise. I can't stop thinking of all the missed opportunities. And over all i do not like the direction that this franchise is going. Well call me a hypocrite, i bought the game; i bought it on sale and through Steam, but i still bought it. Yes, the game that i shit talked about for years, the game that i said i would never buy. I know this is very intense, this franchise means a lot to me, i'm sorry. And call me a hypocrite again cause i'm having fun with it.

And you know what? I'm not gonna be a hypocrite a third time, cause when i tell other people who play TS4 to enjoy it, i'm not being duplicitous, i mean it. So i'm not gonna feel bad for enjoying a game i thought i didn't want to exist, i'm just gonna have fun with it. I honestly don't have the time or mental capacity to be mad at a game. The basegame grew a lot, and the expansions are optional, and i bought the game for 6 dollars so i don't care.

Sorry for the long rant, i'm now realizing that i could have written this in my journal/diary and it would have had the same effect, but i already typed it here and the screenshot is nice so i'm gonna post it, sorry again

Guess what i got for christmas :)

TS4 was pretty cheap (or at least affordable) and i got gifted money, so i bought it! Now I have the three of them; I got TS3 for christmas 3 years ago or so, and TS2 was a birthday gift (and then i saved up and bought almost all the expansions over a long period of time). I don't think I will be buying the expansion packs for TS4, maybe one or two, but i really don't care about most of them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I got it mostly cause of the build features and cause it loads super fast so playing it casually is gonna be easier than with the other two (especially TS3, that one takes ages to load). Also its pretty and it's the sims, and i love the sims a lot... maybe too much...

I started playing it as if it was a Harvest Moon game: make friends, grow things and forage around to make money, collect stuff, etc. I googled it after coming up with the idea, and there's already a challenge or two out there about Harvest moon, but i don't like hard rules or requirements when playing my games.

At first i thought it was a bad desicion to buy it, but then i played it for a while and was surprised by how much the game has improved since i played it back when it came out. It's not perfect, but it's better than the trash fire it was when it first released, and honestly? I'm happy about it. I've been enjoying the game for what it is; it's casual, relaxed, easy. It isn't the super complex social-emotional simulation it promised, honestly TS2 is better at that (better even than TS3, in my humble opinion), but it's still fun. I remember when TS4 originally came out; it was horrible. I tried it before buying it and i was like "no way im gonna spend my money on thins, i'm gonna buy another TS2 expansion pack". And i did; the TS2 expansion pack had more content than the whole of TS4 at the time. Now, however many years later and who knows how many updates later, 6 dollars sounds fair.

Veredict: Hated it back then, enjoying it now. Don't buy it full price though.
