Where’re my aces tonight?
HOLLA
Keep fighting, but take care of yourself first
USA followers, here is your daily reminder in this time of high political energy that it’s okay to take care of yourself. In fact, you must. Change is made by doing things, not by reading Tumblr posts and reacting to them emotionally. In fact, too much emotion can make us less able to act. So it’s okay to scroll past or blacklist important issues on your dash if you need to save your energy. Below are some tools people have designed to keep you informed and equip you for action without overwhelming you:
Daily Action Items for the Easily Overwhelmed
MyCivicWorkout: Emails you everyday with one thing to do
MegaVote: Emails you what your reps are about to vote on
The 65: We’re His Problem Now: Website with daily action items
Keep America Great With a Thing a Day: Website with daily action items
@call-your-representatives: Tumblr blog for same
Other Solid Resources
Call My Congress.com: A quick lookup to find out who your reps are
Indivisible: A Practical Guide For Resisting the Trump Agenda: Good info about the most effective kinds of civic action
Oh Crap! What Now?: A survival guide for living in Trump’s America
How to call your reps when you have social anxiety: It’s hard, so here’s a helpful, compassionate guide
How to throw a weekly anger party: Make calling your reps a group activity!
Being disabled in activist communities: Someone saying a thing many folks need to hear
News/Info Sources That Don’t Suck
Ballotpedia: The Wikipedia of American politics
Politico: U.S. politics news (read sparingly if you get overwhelmed)
Pro Publica: A nonprofit news outlet that does real investigative reporting
PolitiFact: Kind of a Snopes.com for politics
Remember: put on your own oxygen mask before helping others, y’all.
Our current situation is not a sprint, but a marathon. Pace yourself. Small actions add up, especially when governmental power depends almost entirely on us becoming complacent.
Thanks, Obama
When President Obama was inaugurated (the first time), Twitter wasn’t quite three years old. Facebook had only been open to the general public for two and a half years, and Tumblr had just celebrated its second birthday.
In a self-described effort to become “the most open and accessible administration in history,” the @whitehouse started to use these platforms to talk directly to their constituents. And Tumblr got to be a big part of that. Over the last eight years, the Obama administration launched more than 20 different Tumblrs for different departments, agencies, and outreach programs. Here are some heavy hitters:
Official Government Tumblrs
The White House (@whitehouse)
Most notably, The White House’s official Tumblr, which launched on April 25, 2013. For almost 4 years, it has been their informational hub for current political events and activations. In keeping with the Tumblr tone, their very first post promised that “yes, of course there will be GIFs.” And yes, there were. We could not have been more excited or proud.
NASA (@nasa)
NASA launched nearly two years later. They’ve spent 59 years exploring the universe and dropped the most amazing information and visuals right to your dashboard. They also knew how to use GIFs. It’s not rocket science.
The U.S. Department of State (@statedept)
The DOS was actually one of the first official government Tumblrs, quietly launching in April of 2011. With a more serious tone, they kept their followers up to date with the world of foreign policy. And yes, they even had GIFs for that. We cannot stress just how good this administration was with GIFs, Tumblr. Much better than Taft’s.
Letters to President Obama (@letterstopresidentobama)
Typed and handwritten letters to POTUS scanned, uploaded, and answered by the President himself. There are thank yous to and from President Obama, there are people disclosing their fear for the future and hope for their community, there are tears in your eyes within the first five minutes of visiting this Tumblr.
The Department of Interior (@americasgreatoutdoors)
Maybe not the most well-known department, but the DOI has the most beautiful photos of any official government blog on Tumblr. This will remain true unless Joe Biden releases a Tumblr full of selfies within the next three days.
There was also the US Fish and Wildlife Service-Pacific Region (@usfwspacific), the National Archives (@usnatarchives) , the IRS (@internalrevenueservice), the Peace Corps (@peacecorps), and so, so much more.
Top Posts from the Community
This scientific trinity received over half a million notes. Say hello to these buddies:
And these uh, unverified photos of President Obama making the new $100 bill in MS Paint garnered over 650k likes, reblogs, and replies.
You want to click through to see the rest.
This one is particularly timely. With over 300,000 notes, user @cognitivedissonance thanked Obama for ACA. Without it, they would not have been able to receive treatment for bronchitis.
Mic (@micdotcom) posted a GIF set of a girl who sort of represented all of our feelings about President Obama not being able to run for a third term.
Neither are we, kiddo.
One more time, while we still can: Thanks, Obama.
I have so many emotions about this and I'm not even American. I wish Obama could stay ;^;
my traumatized ass: do I have a crush or am I just idolizing this person for being vaguely nice to me
Me af

First look at Moana in the Disney Parks!
THIS LEGIT NEARLY MADE ME CRY.
Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton playing Hallelujah. Hits right in the feels.
I’ve been trying to figure out what my “thing” is in art and I’m starting to think that it might be high contrast black and white.
(do I have a “thing” that I do that makes my art look like mine? I genuinely want to know, guys, help me out here)
Evening reblog. Still looking for feedback!
For me, I can tell your artwork by the way you draw faces, noses in particular. The curve of the nostril, and the line underneath the nose. I like it a lot, nobody else does it! *Your black and white work does stand out from all the bright coloured stuff. Your colours are different too, soft, watercolour look.
If "friends" are making you feel like shit, you need new ones
A friend decided to come and spend physical time with me, and I feel worlds better. Maybe this is the beginning of no longer being so ostracized (for a good decision). I learned who is actually here for me though, so all this depression and feelings of worthlessness hasn't been a complete waste of time. It was slowly killing me. Maybe I can foster new friendships. I don't know how to not let people close to me again though. How do I build that wall when I just want a dependable friend, maybe even on who doesn't forget about me? How do I protect myself in the future? Just had to get out of my head. Have a great weekend, Tumblr!
Diagnosis
After months of being sick, of being unable to get up and move (even to do something as simple as brush my teeth- I have to sit) I’ve received a diagnosis!
I have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. It means that my heart speeds up by 30bpm when I change position. The blood vessels in my legs refuse to constrict, so my blood just starts pooling there. It sounds innocent, really.
This... illness has basically disabled me. Constant chest pain, worse if I’m standing for more than half a minute. Dizziness happens randomly, but it’s super bad if I’m standing.
I generally know if I’m going to faint. My body likes to give me a heads up (thank you!). So I’ll get dizzier than normal. My chest pain goes from about a two to a five. I feel short of breath, my vision will become increasingly blurry before I start to see black spots in the corner of my eyes. This will keep filling my vision (I was told that this is called tunnel vision) until I pass out. I’ve only fainted once (in church, six months or so pregnant... story for another day)
I’m too scared of it happening and getting hurt to let the fainting happen again. The first time I didn’t really know what was happening and at the time, I was busy being Crucifer and I thought I’d be embarrassed if I had to sit in front of the entire congregation.
Fainting is worse, guys. Worst ever.
I’ve been tempted to let it happen. I have friends and family that don’t take me very seriously, so my brain is like, “maybe you should show them that this is serious”. I always chicken out.
So, I got my diagnosis. I’m excited. I was so scared I’d be told it was in my head or that I was lazy or a liar. But it’s a thing and while it doesn’t seem to be curable, it seems to be manageable.
My first cardiologist (Dr Binedell) thought POTS might have been the culprit, and had put me on a small dosage of Florinef. It did make a small difference in my chest pain.
So I saw this new cardiologist (Dr Shabani) because Binedell wanted a second opinion. He agreed to the diagnosis without subjecting me to the tilt table test (thank God. I’d have passed out for sure). He doubled my Florinef and gave me a prescription for compression leggings.
I’m excited. I could be feeling much better very soon. I’m relieved. I have something to go to friends and family with and be like, “see? I told you I was feeling off, that I wasn’t right”
Dysautonomia
Day three without Florinef and my chest really hurts. My heart is doing weird flopping in my chest. Really not in the mood for any slight hint of crap from anyone today. Last night the pain was about three. It's currently sitting at 4.5. I'll be using this to keep track of my symptoms until my tilt table test on Wednesday.

Sooooo many. I already read a bunch of these but I’m gonna be up all night reading the ones I haven’t heard of. I’m excited. Also Sleepless Domain webcomic has a black lead.
Stop telling women to “just say no” if they’re not interested and being harassed.
On the night of January 22, 29-year old Janese Talton-Jackson was shot to death on a sidewalk by a man who was angry because she refused to give him her phone number upon request. Her story is sadly reminiscent of Mary Spears’, who was killed in similar circumstances in 2014. Every few months stories like these make it into the news cycle, even though related harassment and assaults are happening every day in the US and elsewhere. When stories do surface, people express surprise, sadness and outrage, all of which seem to dissipates in a heartbeat. If there is more prolonged criticism, it often falls along racist, ethnic, nationalist, classist lines, despite the far greater prevalence of attacks on women by men in their own peer groups
Women can and do say no, sometimes successfully and in ways that are empowering. When we do, people applaud us, cheer us on, make videos that go viral. But, every single time we do so at great risk.
No, taking naked pictures doesn’t mean I consent to sharing them.
No, I don’t want to perform oral sex on a stranger.
No, I don’t want to be married to you anymore.
No, what I wear doesn’t give you rights to sex.
No, I don’t want to send you naked pictures.
No, I don’t want to see your naked picture.
No, I don’t want to see you anymore.
No, I don’t want to get back together.
No, drinking doesn’t mean I consent.
No, I won’t go to the prom with you.
No, you cannot share that picture.
No, I don’t want you to touch me.
No, I don’t want to live with you.
No, I don’t want to have a drink.
No, you’re abusing your power.
No, I don’t want to talk to you.
No, I want to keep this baby.
No, I don’t want to date you.
No, I want to go to school.
No, I don’t want to smile.
No, I disagree with you.
No, I want an abortion.
No, I don’t need a ride.
No, I want a divorce.
No, I don’t think so.
No, I will not fight.
No, I will not stop.
No, I’m not going.
No, I won’t.
No, stop.
Street harassment doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Women everywhere, whether consciously or not, have to be vigilant about a broad spectrum of violence: street harassment, sexual assault, stalking, and both stranger and intimate partner assault. One in three American woman has experienced domestic violence. One in six is stalked. An American woman’s chance of being sexually assaulted is one in five, one in three if she is Native American.
Women. Can’t. Say. No. “Just tell him to you aren’t interested?” is a sorry and entitled display of really not caring what happens to the person you are talking to. The list above is long, but edited down. How many women have to die because they say “no” before this is taken seriously as a matter of public health and women’s rights?
I’m saddened by Janese Talton-Jackson’s brutal killing. But I am enraged that attacks like this happen all the time and we continue to ignore the connective tissue. Last month, a man, angry that a woman had rebuffed him earlier in the night, knocked down the front door of her apartment and, when he found she wasn’t home, grabbed her three month old puppy and threw it out of a third floor window. Last week, a man was sentenced to two years in jail for attacking his spouse with a hammer. Another was arrested for attacking his girlfriend as she tried to attempt leaving him. And yet a third was arrested after killing his wife for wanting divorce. This week, police in Florida are trying to locate a man who has been serially harassing women real estate agents while they work.
In some countries, the most violent attacks against girls and women involve acid throwing, in others, like ours, its more likely to involve setting a woman on fire, ashappened in Pomona, California on Christmas Day. If it had happened in, say, India, chances are you would have heard about it. That might sound like an outlier, until you begin to look and see similar cases in Maryland, Florida, Ohio, Michigan, Missouri,Oregon. Clearly all these women weren’t subservient enough and just as clearly, no mainstream media outlet is keeping track.
Damon Young writes about this from his perspective as a man and a father, here.
male entitlement leads to violence. this is scary and sad, and happens every day.
Hillary tomorrow:
LMAO

What you don’t see on TV!
Smh the news outlets really not giving no type of coverage making him seem like he don’t have no support.
Seriously! Bernie drew a crowd of over 14000 in Republican-majority Utah the same day Trump hosted an event in a venue meant for 1800.
If you’re in that kind of depression where everything is blurry and days blend into one another, taking a lot of photos of positive things might help. If your pet does something cute, you ate something good, got a high score, you cleaned your room, the weather was nice… I’m not saying this will fix your depression, it’s just a good reminder that you are in fact living regardless of the depression distorting your memory and making your past seem like fog of sadness and nothing else.
