I know some fic writers get stressed about writing tropes they think are too popular or overdone, and I need you all to know that I just spent 4 hours reading every iteration of the same exact fic plot I could find, and they all brought me an indescribable amount of joy. So the funniest difference between me and kiddo's previous foster mother is that she was telling me I've gotta call ahead and make sure all the staff at the hairdressers know kiddo is trans so they don't misgender him, and make sure they know he's a foster kid so they understand why it's me taking him and not his real mum and all that, and I've just said nah that's not how you do it.

I go to the barber, I say "my son would like a haircut", they do not question me about whether he is my son on either point. This has worked perfectly so far. You just don't give anyone a reason to question you? If I say he is my son it is so unbelievably rude for someone else to go "um are you sure?".

But yesterday the barbers apprentice looked at him and asked if he is getting a woman's cut, and instead of arcing up and explaining trans theory and respect for kiddos gender to someone who I knew heard me the first time and had clocked him, I just channeled the spirit of a Christian Mother In The Toy Aisle and said "well, he is a boy so no, he will have a boys cut".

Shuts down bullshit immediately! Nobody wants to be yelled at by someone's Karen mother! Kiddo does not hear this little pricks opinion on trans people or get humiliated by being outed in the barbers. You do not have to tell people all your intimate details! You certainly do not have to tell people all your kids intimate details either, especially if you think they'll be a target.

Wrote a little drabble yesterday that was supposed to be fluffy but came out kinda angsty... it's fine, he's fine, everything is fine! :D

I was going to make these all digital to add color but decided to leave them like this. 🤷‍♀️

Day 22: Mermaids

Ngl, was struggling with ideas on this one but then I thought about a certain ring and how The Little Mermaid was one of my favorites growing up. So now we have Felix finding a shiny trinket for his friend.

Day 23: Genderbent

Trish and her brother Cass look so much alike that their genderbent versions aren't much different.

Day 24: Cafe

Trish is the best coffee maker in the area, Alina is the best baker, and Felix is the best bagel tester. He's also the best at getting on Alina's nerves when her half of her freshly made food is suddenly missing. Thankfully, he has Trish to whip him up a to-go coffee when he needs to clock out and run for his life.

Day 25: Fairies

FAIRIES!!!

Had a lot of fun with this one. Felix is a little Viceroy who is always mistaken for a monarch and disappoints others when he corrects them. That is until Trish is the one to tell the others they're idiots because he's clearly a viceroy.

Erik is also half Brazilian, so I went with a White Witch Moth for him. His wings are drawn from the inside view, so it's lacking all the cool squiggles. Erik is white passing in the series, but his younger sister got all of their mom's genes and is clearly Latino. You can see a glimpse of her unfinished sketch in the bottom, but she's a Black Witch Moth.

Day 26: Dnd/Ttrg

Felix the human ranger and Trish the tiefling rogue! Felix is very new to the "bending the rules of the law" most DND adventurers go through.

Fun fact: Canonically, Trish is a damn good pick pocket, Poor Henry and Erik always losing their wallets, so of course I had to make Trish a rogue.

Day 27: Orchestra

Originally, I was going to do violin, but the cello seemed to be more of the vibe with Trish.

Day 28: Vampire

Poor little Felix, gets attacked and turned one rainy night, and the suddenly, he's adopted.

Poor Erik gets accused of being the one to turn Felix. No, ma'am, Erik doesn't even like taking blood from rat, let alone a human. He found this sopping wet kitten fair and square!

As usual, it's Trish to the rescue helping Felix get cleaned up while the others discuss the new housemate.

I fell behind so we're just gonna do one big post.

Day 16: Sharing Food

Luke is half Italian on his Dad side, which means Felix gets fed real food.

Day 17: Clothing Swap

This was a rough sketch I gave up on halfway through. 😅 While they are similar in size, Luke is just a bit larger than Felix, so Felix's clothes are snug on him. Felix, however, gets the best of both worlds because he can steal his boyfriend's clothes.

Day 18: cuddles

Luke is the bigger cuddler of the two. He likes Felix's body heat is all... no other reason.

Day 19: Hair/Skin care

Return of Trish! Felix tries very hard to care for his boyfriend and best friend. Unfortunately, they have no regard for their well-being, like putting sunscreen on their pale ass skin.

Day 20: Kisses!

I had to add Trish because she always kisses his temple/forehead when he's in need of comfort. Felix also struggles with receiving affection, so he always gets flustered no matter the level of affection he's getting.

Day 21: Ship Kid

Felix and Luke's adopted daughter, who is definitely not hiding a mythological creature behind her back. No, sir, she's an innocent little bean who will not take the creature to her Aunt Trish to catalog because she doesn't have said creature.

Writing Everyday Quirks

☽ People hum or whistle without realizing. Half the time it’s the same tune on loop until someone else points it out.

☽ Nervous habits aren’t always obvious. Some tap their foot, others pick at labels, twist jewelry, or re-check their phone screen that hasn’t lit up.

☽ Everyone mispronounces a word. Even smart characters have at least one word they’ve been saying wrong their whole life.

☽ Sleep habits are personal. Some sprawl like starfish, some curl into tiny balls, some talk, kick, or even laugh in their sleep.

☽ Food quirks add personality. Characters might hate crusts, eat fries before the burger, or insist on separating all the M&Ms by color.

☽ People zone out mid-conversation. Not out of rudeness, sometimes their brain just… drifts. A perfect chance to show inner thoughts sneaking in.

☽ Signature laughs are a thing. Snorts, wheezes, silent shakes, a laugh can tell you as much about a person as their dialogue.

☽ Everyone has a “comfort item.” A ratty hoodie, a chipped mug, an overplayed playlist, something small that makes them feel safe.

☽ Body memory is real. Someone might instinctively check their pocket for keys, tug their sleeves down, or crack knuckles without thinking.

☽ Little clumsies matter. People spill drinks, drop pens, trip over their own shoes. Perfection is boring, quirks make characters HUMAN.

Tips for Writing Injuries

✧ Broken ribs suck. You don’t just “walk it off.” Breathing hurts. Laughing hurts. Existing hurts. Characters with rib injuries won’t be doing heroic sprints.

✧ Concussions aren’t instant naps. Dazed vision, nausea, dizziness, maybe even personality changes, but they’re not going to collapse neatly like in the movies.

✧ Blood loss is sneaky. It’s not just about dramatic pools of blood. It’s dizziness, confusion, and the body getting cold as circulation tanks.

✧ Adrenaline lies. Someone can take a serious injury and not feel it until the fight’s over. That “I didn’t realize I was bleeding until later” trope? Very real.

✧ Twisted ankles are brutal. One bad step and suddenly running is off the table. Even walking hurts like hell. Perfect way to ground a chase scene.

✧ Burns linger. Even small burns hurt more than most people expect. Blisters, infection risk, constant pain, it’s not just a cool scar later.

✧ Dislocated shoulders = useless arm. Characters can’t keep swinging a sword or firing a gun. They’re basically fighting one-armed until it’s fixed.

✧ Shock is a thing. Pale skin, trembling, rapid heartbeat, and eventually disorientation. A character might not even realize how bad their wound is.

✧ Stitches aren’t magic. Getting sewn up is painful and recovery takes time. They’re not instantly battle-ready after a needle and thread.

✧ Scars tell stories. Some fade, some don’t. Some stay sensitive forever. Don’t forget the aftermath when the wound becomes part of the character.

And here I thought Trish wouldn't appear this week.

Well, actually, I did, but then I created Felix's boyfriend last minute. Thanks, Emry, for helping name the edgelord that is Luke Sanna.

Luke and Felix are the ship here, and their first meeting was a bit...challenging, to say the least. But what do you expect when the vampire and hunter get together?

Luke's design is subjected to change because he is *brand* new. This is already Luke 2.0 and he has existed for barely 4 days.

Okay, I only found one I really truly liked and fit a character.

Ironically enough, Trish never got to know her dad. He died when Trish was 6 months old. Her eldest brother was 8 at the time, though. Both agree it's best he stay dead.

Unfortunately, they work with the paranormal and are always a little worried about coming across their dad or respective moms.

Jacob would be happy but a little nervous to see his mom again.

Trish would rather jump in a lake than see her mother's ghost.

My guys are already modern, so it's a historical/fantasy setting for us today! Honestly, I have no set time period. The clothes are just vibes tbh.

I've enjoyed the idea of Trish and Felix entering a Lavender Marriage so that Trish doesn't have to worry about a serious/real marriage and Felix can go meet up with his boyfriend without feeling guilty for cheating. (I watched Bridgerton for the first time a couple of months ago, and that's where the idea blossomed)

Of course, they still run into the problem of producing an heir. Those two would much rather die than even think about being intimate that way with each other. Or having children, so for now, the pets will become the future, "Lord Ambrose."
