Big brother
Mairon descends into Eä
au where the go to feanorian duos get mixed up so
maedhros and celegorm
maglor and curufin
or maedhros with curufin (daddy's heir and daddy's copy , politics and brains of the operations with crafty master of schemes )
maglor and celegorm ( someone let me copy their notes on this my brain is not functionning )
Yesyesyessss!!!
May I direct you to this post I made about Celegorm and Maglor?
As @tinwe-the-local-assassin and I discovered, Maedhros and Celegorm are a great duo, actually! We read them as the extroverts who wear their hearts on their sleeves. (Or in Tyelko's case, probably on his bicep since he thinks Sleeves are for Nerds.)
Ill Chances & Strange Fates Chapter 13: Things Mended
“Don’t look at the wound or what my hands are doing,” Aranya told Maitimo, hoping her voice was remaining steady, not so much from fear this time, but from excitement. “Focus instead on the bunnies and kittens I’ve embroidered onto my robes.”
Maitimo nodded and smiled faintly as he focused his gaze on the intricately embroidered woodland critters adorning the collar of her robes. He remembered when she had embroidered most of these, as she often brought her embroidery hoop to their picnics. Just one little bird or squirrel often took weeks to embroider. They each had a blend of different colored threads, depicting the fur of the animals with uncanny realism. Aranya was almost always embroidering. She told Maitimo her hands were always restless, even when she was trying to relax or talk to someone.
And yet, as much as Maitimo loved the artistic work of her hands, he found his eyes drawn upward to her face. To her intently focused eyes framed in dark lashes, and her soft lips and rosy cheeks.
It's been a while, but now that I've finished my accounting studies and become a CPA, I can hopefully post my fic more regularly! This chapter is one of my favorites. Mostly because I'm very predictably a sucker for hurt-comfort. It's also a great example of why I love Mairanya so much as a couple. Aranya is the only one who manages to talk Maitimo down from the ceiling while he's suffering terrible anxiety.
Also, I think this excerpt in particular illustrates how Aranya is an ADHD girlie, with her fidgety hands! I didn't fully realize I was writing her that way until I got diagnosed with ADHD myself. Maybe I'll share more about that in another post.
You can read this chapter, and all the other ones leading up to this, on AO3!
And if you read this fic and enjoy it, please leave a comment!
Is Fëanor an AI bro
Yes he trusts chatGPT
No he would never bow to the machines
I love how much fun everyone has drawing Maedhros. Like yes. Go wild on our lil murderous copper top 😌
Yes! There's a reason why I keep drawing him again and again!
The Silmarillion fandom is genuinely insane. Like, you hang out on tumblr, read fic on AO3 and you think, yeah. Lots of people have read the Silmarillion. It’s Tolkien. Everyone’s read Tolkien. Barnes and Noble has a whole bunch of the HoME and also a bunch of books by people writing about the legendarium. This is mainstream, surely.
But then you actually touch grass and talk to normal people. Not even that, you talk to people who self diagnose as hard core Tolkien fans. And. None of them have read the Silmarillion. The Silmarillion is famously a book that nobody reads.
And yet. On AO3 The Silmarillion and Other Histories of Middle Earth has more works than The Lord of the Rings. Think about that. That’s baffling. It’s ridiculous. Like I realize that LotR fandom is split a bit by the movie, but still. The Silmarillion has almost four times as many fics as the LotR movies. Everybody has watched the movies!
I need to know what percentage of people who actually read the Silmarillion went on to write fic or draw fanart about it. Because it must be insane, surely. Like, I’m pretty sure the Silmarillion wins some kind of record in this department.
Thinking about the fanfic bell curve where on one end you have “Perfect, needs no improvement or elaboration” (LotR sits here) and on the other you have “So bad it’s no fun to even think about” with the middle being the fanfic zone. But I think there may be a secret fourth Silmarillion option. Which is a book that is perfect* but simultaneously non existent. It’s not even a real story! The language is super pretty and deeply incomprehensible (especially to people who, unlike me, were not raised from early childhood on both the Bible and classic literature). And it’s more of an outline and an abstract painting of cultural and world building vibes (not cultural and world building facts and information) than an actual narrative. There are story hooks galore. There are vivid and fascinating characters, but their lives are glossed over and you only get one or two paragraphs of prose that will reorder your brain chemistry and haunt you forever. There are countless more characters who only exist as names, the implication of whose existence is fascinating. All of this is deeply frustrating, both to casual readers who just want a Normal Enjoyable Book, and super fans who want All the Lore. But it is catnip to anyone who engages in transformative work.
*I am aware that not anyone who is a fan of the silm thinks it’s perfect
This!! I had this Exact observation when I first joined the Silm fandom! I was amazed by how much fanart I was seeing; much more than LotR, it would seem. I think this is because the Silm gives us such rich, thought-provoking mental pictures which have a solid foundation, but not much detail. So it is addictive to ponder over them and imagine the details, and thus create fanart and fanfics.
A Soft Gaze (Now In Color!)
This is a simple sketch with only a faint wash of color, but it's one of my proudest because it's the closest I've ever gotten to portraying Maitimo as he appears in my mind's eye.
Sometimes I feel like I lose something when I add color to a grayscale drawing, for some reason. I really didn't want that to happen here because I loved the original sketch so much, so I hardly did a thing digitally. I really just added a beige color layer overall and then a bit of red-brown on his hair and such.
I think he came out so beautiful, and I hope you do too!
I have a massive wheel of names and I don’t know what to do with it. Spin it. What will you do to your character
Destroy
Kiss
Fuck that character (sex)
Tuck the character into bed
Spin the character like a wheel
Give the character a non suspicious shiny rock
Wring the character like wet towel
Take the character to (location)
Eat the character
Something else

IC&SF Chapter 11: I'm Home Alone, and I'm Singing
Fëanáro and Nerdanel had taught all their sons in music, though none of them had taken to it the way Makalaurë had. Most of the brothers weren’t patient enough to learn how to play chords, read music, or sing scales. Maitimo had the patience, but as his voice had begun to change and crack constantly, he had become too mortified to dare singing again. Now, he was far too busy for such endeavors, and he could never hope to keep up in singing along with Laurë’s impossibly high range anyway.
Figuring nobody was around to judge him, he spent some time cleaning and tuning his lyre, and then he carefully plucked out what he could remember of a song of Valinorë his parents had taught him long ago. And, though his heart pounded for some reason, he tentatively began to softly sing the words, an octave lower than the way he had sung it as an Elfling. Maitimo had no idea if he sounded good or not, but the notes vibrated pleasantly in his chest. If he didn’t strain after any high notes, the song felt comfortable, at least.
Wanna know why Maitimo is home alone and singing? You can find out in Chapter 11 of Ill Chances and Strange Fates! Maitimo also makes some very bad decisions (such as riding out looking for his brothers in the middle of the night while he's still wounded...)
If you decide to read this fic and you enjoy it, please let me know! Everything I write is from my own brain, and AI is not used in any step of the process. So if you value that, please support the story.
All seven sons of Fëanor meeting in Beleriand but it’s the scene where the dwarves all enter Bilbo’s house.
They’re meeting in Thargelion and Caranthir’s about to tear his hair out, or maybe his advisor is, as everyone slowly arrives. First Celegorm. Then Curufin. Then Maglor. Then Amrod and Amras. And the five of them raiding the pantry, probably Moryo’s jewellery and materials room as well to find whatever they like most and have it commissioned. Thargelion is their richest land after all, and it’s a time of plenty.
Celegorm and the twins have trailed mud all over the floor. Curvo’s hounding the smiths about their quality of work. Maglor’s singing, the rest of his brothers joining in as he playfully mocks Caranthir and his advisors trying to keep a reign on everything.
Then there’s a knock on the door.
Maedhros walks in. Red hair gleaming in the light, noble, scarred face leaving the other residents of the fortress in awe.
And in seconds everyone’s on Best Behaviour TM.
(But ofc being little brothers, it doesn’t last long. And Maedhros can’t help but join in the fun no matter how hard he tries to be Grim and Serious about things.
Also the deep sighs and rolling eyes as soon as they heard the knock left several servants and soldiers more familiar with the Fëanorions hiding laughs. Maglor mutters something along the lines of ‘killjoy.’ Amrod makes faces as Mae explains the results of his meeting with Fingolfin. Celegorm whistles to the ravens by the window, and even Caranthir raises unimpressed eyebrows when the eldest tries his Lordly Tone of Gravitas that would work on literally anyone but his brothers.)
Maedhros learned how to embroider after he lost his hand
I learned today that it is entirely possible to hand-sew using only your left hand!
Backstory: The right sleeve of my sweater was starting to unravel at the seam near the wrist. I was too lazy to take it off, and I wanted to fix it before it got worse, so I repaired it while still wearing it, using only my left hand. I'm right-handed.
So, as I was doing this, I naturally got an idea for a delightful new headcanon!
I tend to imagine Maitimo as a primarily academic nerd, but I think, growing up, his creative hobby was calligraphy. I think the beauty of his writing was unmatched in the House of Finwë, and even Fëanor, who invented the alphabet, was so pleased with Maitimo's writing that he would often have him write his official correspondences and whatever.
But after Maitimo lost his hand, that went out the window.
He learned how to write again, of course, but it was never quite the same. His left-handed calligraphy had a beauty in its wildness, but it was never nearly as perfect as his right-handed calligraphy.
I think his loved ones would have been grieved to see how frustrated he got trying to re-learn calligraphy and constantly comparing it to what it was before. Enter Aranya, my OC, Maitimo's primary healer. (If you're not familiar with her, this is a good introduction to her.) Aranya is an avid embroiderer. I like to headcanon that healers practice embroidery as a way to refine their stitching skills, and Aranya is always embroidering to keep her hands busy. So maybe one day, while she was watching Maitimo struggle with his calligraphy, she discovered like I did how it's possible to sew with one hand, so she decides to offer to teach Maitimo.
At first, he dismisses the idea and thinks it's impossible. But Aranya demonstrates how she can do the entire process of threading the needle, knotting the thread and sewing the stitches using only her left hand. Maitimo knows he'll suck at it, but it's not like he has much else to do, so he agrees.
It's a long road, and learning how to embroider is tough even when you have two hands. Maitimo almost gives up a few times during the beginning. But by the time he manages to embroider a very simple kitten, he has the satisfaction of having made something by himself. And there is no pre-Angband standard to compare his work to. He realizes he managed to learn a new skill even after his body was nearly destroyed.
Eventually he's embroidering cute woodland animals alongside Aranya, and it's something he can do to keep himself grounded. I also think while he was Lord of Himring, he took great pride in being able to mend his own clothes. There are a lot of things he needs people to help him with, but this is something he can do himself.
You can bet this is eventually going to make its way into Ill Chances and Strange Fates!

I've had another fic idea: crispy Amrod au where failing to fulfill the oath leaves you as an unhoused spirit. Except there is a perfectly good identical house right there, so through mystical oath bs Amrod and Amras end up sharing the same body. Shenanigans ensue.
Oh yeah and Ambarussa can see ghosts now. Surely that won't be a problem.
OP how dare you hide these in the tags!!
Could I request a sketch of Finarfin+Earwen? And/or Elrond+Celebrían? Your drawings are so amazing! As are your writings, thoughts, etc. 😊
Awww thank you so much!! Here’s Elrond and Celebrian finally relaxing in Valinor because they’re my favs and deserve some happiness 😌
I’ve about about their designs here for anyone interested :)
