nate
It had been almost a 2 hour drive from Boston to Rockport and Nate, Sage and two of Nate’s friends from his class -the cliff diver guys who’d actually dragged Nate into this- finally made it to the quarries. They were gonna stay there for a few days and since both Nate and his friends were nature guys, they thought it’d be cool to camp in the woods -even though it was extremely cold and Rockport was completely covered in snow- rather than staying in a hostel.
“Man, the view here is amazing! Sage, come check, girl.” Nate called her over with a wave of his arm as he stood there on the edge of the cliff. He looked down and pulled himself back, turning to Sage. “It’s not that high, is it? I don’t think we’re gonna die.”
Having been woken early, Sage had bundled herself into the passenger side seat; curling her short legs up and promptly dozing for the majority of the 2 hour drive. The sun is reflecting back off the thin covering of snow when she squints her eyes open, looking blearily out the window and the passing trees. She only thinks to slide her glasses onto her nose once they’ve stopped, Nate all but diving out of the car to look precariously over the cliff edge, and, typically, calling her over to do the same.
“A perfect spot to have a dance with certain death,” she jests, tucking herself close to his side to steal Nate’s heat. “But, yeah, it should be fine, long as we all land right. And it’s a sheer drop, no rocks in the way...”

“It’s still shit show, I mean I understand that I can’t save every kid and all but it’s frustrating.” Marissa sighed, leaning against her hands and stared at Sage, “my mom mode is in full effect as you can see.”
“Agreed,” they murmur, reaching out a hand and wrapping it around the other’s wrist. “As a child of that so call shit show, I appreciate the sentiment, Mari. But it’s still the foster system that kept myself and Aileene off the streets and got us to America - so it’s not all bad.”
justin
“Well that sucks. Sounds like you could use a drink or some good food. Treat yourself after having to deal with them.”
“If you’re offering to take me out, pretty boy, then I just might have too.”
jacob
“Isn’t that kind of just how everyone feels throughout life? There’s been very few moments since my twenties where I’ve felt like a real, true adult – like the ones you see on television who have all their shit together, twenty-four seven. No matter how put together you are, there’s always gonna be those odd situations thrown your way where it’s a crapshoot and I can’t even begin to imagine how stressed I’d be to walk into a meeting with board members.“
“I couldn’t name a single character I know of who seems to have their shit together, that’d make for boring television, right?” Sage asks, her smile pulling higher on one side to dimple her cheek. “If it’s not personal dramatics, it’s deaths every other weekend and a murderer to boot. Cus I’m sure every small town has a few local serial killers to make things interesting. Then again, sometimes I think I’d sooner get stabbed then deal with another client going for my throat for one thing or another.”
rowan
“Lawyers are your best friend. I have a few of them. I own a clothing shop, so I don’t really have that problem, but I tend to get people trying to claim my things are fake or ruined when they aren’t.”
“Everyone’s a critic,” Sage agrees, scoffing lightly, “I’d imagine copyright is a bitch with clothing stores, I get enough hassle of avoiding plagiarising architectural aspects of prior builds - like where does the line between inspiration of copying start?”
cameron
“You do know what I used to be doing for a living, right?” he questioned, raising a brow at Sage. “I’m not sure my resume exactly screams Ernst and Young material, you know? But hey, who am I to complain? If I’m getting offers for jobs I’m hardly even qualified for, I really shouldn’t be in a place to run my mouth.” It wouldn’t have been that hard for him to get into the whole accounting affair, he thought. After all, he did do a decent job of managing his finances, for someone like himself. “I guess I could do that. New business and all, what really is there to account for at this point? Aside from capital and intangibles, it’s all just about setting up the proper system for the flow of working capital.”
“Unless it was something like extortion, I couldn’t really care less,” well, that’s not true, but the words roll easily along their tongue in response. “Yeah...” they trail off into nothing, squinting at Cameron as though he’d just handed them a rubix cube to solve.”If that’s stuff I should know, i’m definitely going to have to hire someone, or at least attach the legit words to the processes I do know - Like I know how to deal with my finances, I just don’t know about all the particular nuances.”
nikolai
“yeah, do you do jameson?” the incredulous look he was met with by both the customers surrounding him and the member of staff did little to change his mind.. sure it was ten am but that was hardly going to stop him. “two, on the rocks, one for me and one for my friend here.” he hums as he sent a playful smile toward the person beside him as he pulled his wallet out. “- it’s st patrick, and i’m white so i’m probably a fraction irish, don’t judge me.”
“I guess now isn’t the time to mention I’d sooner drink straight bleach than whiskey right?” Jameson might have been the good stuff, but it still makes their nose wrinkle at the burn they know will accompany it. Still, Sage snorts at his comment, hooking a finger into the rim of the glass to pull it towards her. “No flaws in that logic. I, for one, know there’s not an ounce of irish in me, but I’ll drink this for your prides sake.”

“If I could adopt a kid I would totally save them from the shitty foster care system.” Marissa sighed, exhausted from dealing with the amount of bullshit at work and the bills piling up made her exhausted. “Sorry, just frustrated with the week already and might consider becoming a closet drunk.”
“It’s not really the foster system that’s fundamentally shitty, it’s the parents who lie on their forms and then abuse the kids because they can. It comes down more to human error and cruelty than any corrupt system.” Sage talks through a bite of fried rice, pulling her legs up on the stool and waving her chopsticks to make the point.
the fact that you started a business is actually so badass and don't let anyone tell you different
“ was never planning on it, lovely, if we don’t step up to be the badasses of our generation, who else is going to do it?”
jacob
Jacob smiled, slowly shaking his head as he listened to the other. “Don’t worry. As long as you have your taxes down by the time you’re thirty, you can still get away with acting childish every now and then.” He mirrored their shrug, listening to the description of the business they were creating. “Oh, that sounds interesting. Ambitious, but probably just what Boston needs. There’s a lot of architecture buffs in the city.”
“It’s so weird that I’ve been in the business for eight years and I still can’t see myself as a professional, when by all rights I am. It’s like I’m still a kid doing work experience, expecting to be schooled for fucking up every three second. It’s when meetings with the company directors started feeling like being sent to see the principle that I realised I had a problem.”
Go on anon and tell me what you think about me. I'm curious.

“I will respect everyone’s style and what they like because at the end of the day that is what I want in return. but that’s never going to stop me from judging it anyways. It’s just a little too much for me. I understand the appeal of it being all back to basics but there’s a fine line between that and living or working in a reno.”
“I’d love to see your place some time, or even have you come over and see mine. It’s always nice to hear some ulterior perspective.” Sage offers, looking genuinely curious. “Before the move, I was working in a big architectural firm and I was drawing up a lot of skyscrapers which were fine but I didn’t have much passion for them. You seem to have a pretty solid grasp on what you like... are you in the industry?”
rowan
“Are you still designing the shop or is it just the little things that’s driving you crazy?”
“It’s not a shop. It’s an architectural firm which is... so different, and getting a space hasn’t been a problem. But like I’ve been told I need lawyers on call and all that because of all the potential lawsuits which come through dealing with companies and people who just - you know - have money and aren’t scared of suing if something goes wrong. It’s just a little crazy and intimidating.”
