so i just pulled off a mildly impressive achievement?
see, around 12:30 AM (so like 3 minutes ago as i’m writing this) my friend’s little brother comes knocking on my door. at first i assume it’s like the house making noises or something but when he knocks again i assume something is actually happening, so i open the door and head over to his room.
apparently his steamdeck’s charger—or at least the cable he was using to charge his steamdeck—had suddenly broken. the main metal charging bit had somehow snapped kind of in half, and part of it was wedged into the steamdeck and he couldn’t yank it out.
here’s an after pic so you can see the state of the charger:
the metal part was the part inside the charger, and the cable was already outside. he has no idea how it broke off. he only noticed it was charging only in one direction a day before this happened, and sometime today it broke.
so we both take turns trying to yank it out of the steamdeck. the little prongs next to the wire bits kept biting our fingers, so we couldn’t pull it out with brute strength.
i suggested using something like those clamp clip things with a loopy metal part (the fuck are those things called anyway); he looked in his drawer, but couldn’t find anything like it. he did, however, have a few rope-like cables, so hooked them to the prongs that were hurting our fingers to try pulling the stuck part out. it didn’t work, so i went downstairs to see if i could find the clamp clip thing.
i also couldn’t find it, but i found a stapler remover and a nail clipper, and thought, “oh yeah, one of these might work!” so i went back up. my friend’s brother tried the stapler remover, and i tried the nail clipper. lo and behold, the nail clipper worked! the metal part was out!
now i’m writing this relaying the tale to the interwebs because my friend’s brother said i should. so if you enjoyed this story, thank him :D
