I've been rewatching Death Note these days and a thought came to me. Usually in fics or in fandom discourses I see fans assume that Light would have lived a long life if he didn't happen to pick up the Death Note.

But what if the Death Note extended his life instead of shortening it?

What if he was supposed to die in a freak accident at a way younger age, like at 18 or 19, and instead picking up the Death Note allowed him to live until he was 23?

Imagine Light talking to Misa and her revealing to him that his date of death isn't too far away yet she chose to love him anyway, but that date passes and nothing happens because Light at the time was handcuffed to L.

Tried to sketch Optimus as a human focusing more on his facial features rather than adapting some pieces of his armor right away.

I can't get out of my head Smokescreen going "Think fast!" at Megatron when he stole the Omega Keys from him. Not only because that's Starscream's line from a few episodes back finding its way to Megatron at an unfortunate time (and I count it as a win for him), but also because that line must have left an impact on Smokey for him to reuse it, meaning that the loss of the Red Energon was still a learning experience despite coming from "that stiletto-heeled freak". And my Stop Me-loving side sees this small character moment as a sign that Starscream and Smokey's relationship (and Smokescreen's admiration for him) was truly meant to be.

Of course, this is just one example of how megadoomingir's writing connects to the series in a way that leaves me emotional.

Something I wish to see explored more in fiction is how pacifism can be its own shade of toxicity when one clings to it no matter how much hurt and loss it brings. Don’t get me wrong, there is great value in refraining from using violence to solve a problem, especially when all you’re surrounded by is violence.

But sometimes, when things become truly desperate and you reach a devastating breaking point, violence becomes the only way to avoid further loss, to preserve life, to save the people you care about.

I like how this applies to Optimus in TFP (and maybe to an extent to Bay!Optimus and TFO!Optimus). The amount of loss, pain, and violence he witnessed is hard to fathom for a human, and yet he chose again and again to be noble, kind, and true to himself. He reached a point where every other option had been exhausted, he offered chance upon chance for Megatron to change his ways, he tried everything and it matters a lot that he did.

For him, violence became the only viable alternative to avoid being erased.

There is tragedy in pacifism being forced to resort to its opposite, yet I don’t believe a pacifist who chooses action becomes part of the problem, or has to forfeit the label altogether. Life is more complicated than a dictionary definition. If anything, I respect someone who offers their hand, gets bitten to the bone in order to uphold their ideals, and still remains capable of making the hard decision to eliminate an insurmountable threat.

i do also wanna see this sort of scenario applied to political themes in more stories. like i adore tfp optimus but i can't lie and say that i don't feel much more sympathy to megatronus when orion's stance in front of the senate read as "make peace with your oppressors."

i feel like most tf medias in general fail in depicting truly poignant messages when they fallback into the mercy vs violence debate when it they tackle stories about oppression and slavery.

even tfone did it at the end with the way orion tried to stop dee's attack on sentinel with bringing up moral high ground and preaching mercy, instead of simply trying to reason that all cogless bots deserved to have a say in sentinel's fate, which would be something more palatable personally.

If the books are taken into account, I also feel a bit of sympathy for Megatronus and for how Orion, born into a higher caste, failed to see that the Senate was supporting his stance because compromise is how the privileged ensured they would still have a say in Cybertron’s future instead of being removed from power.

When it comes to TFOne, I interpreted it as Orion wanting to put Sentinel on trial and use the newly established system to deliver his punishment, instead of brutally killing the former tyrant in public. Not that Sentinel didn’t deserve to be executed, it’s the method that Orion didn’t agree with. Imo, it wasn’t mercy, but rather adhering to a procedure within a structure that could rightfully try Sentinel for his crimes.
