Hopper probably isn’t dead. The key is a portal to different universes, but it could also be a portal to different locations (Russia). Also, “heroes” by David Bowie was playing when they dragged Mikes fake body out of the lake. That same song played when El read Hoppers letter.

I honestly think hopper isn’t dead because if you remember in the post credits scene the Russians pass a door and was like “ not the American “ which I think can be a hint that hopper is alive.
