i’m just so mad that emma frost is constantly touted as “better than” jean grey for such ignorant and shitty reasons
it’s rooted in such misogynist tropes and it upsets me that i see so many people falling for it
emma frost is frequently prized not for her personality, but for her “sexuality” (which is not inherently bad for sure!!) and being essentially the embodiment “weaponized femininity” (which ok dont get me started on that whole thing)
(i’m also not gonna get into how uncomfortable i am with emma frost being written as “sexually liberated” by MEN like that’s an inescapable fact she is a character being written in this way she cannot choose to be liberated sexually it’s very murky to me)
i adore emma frost. she’s strong beyond words. she dove down to the deepest lows and refused to let it define her. she bows to absolutely no one, and she knows exactly what she wants and how to get it. she’s made mistakes and she’s unashamed. she won’t allow anyone to pity her for her choices and her past. she is above pity or sympathy, and needs neither from the likes of you.
but, time and time again fandom makes it clear that she is a “”“BETTER”“” woman than jean grey, solely because jean grey is emotional and compassionate to a fault. she’s “boring” because she’s not cruel and sarcastic to those around her. she’s “dull” because she’s caring and accepting. she’s “annoying” because she was upset that the man she loved and married had cheated on her. (i dread to think the reaction had she been the one who was unfaithful). she’s a “mary sue” because she has powers that are equal to those of the most powerful men in the marvel universe (note that no one goes after them for being ‘too powerful’ because men are allowed that kind of power and women are not)
just remember that while emma frost simply refused to feel the flames (and that is valuable in its own right), jean grey would die willingly in those flames for the sake of each and every person in her life, and HAS DONE SO several times
(though you mock her sacrifices because a woman’s death means nothing to you, and it upsets you that she has the AUDACITY to not stay dead)
remember that your favorites would be dead several times over without jean grey’s sacrifices and compassion and inherent goodness
while we need emma frosts in the world, we need jean greys as well
