“what’s the odyssey?” girl what ISN’T the odyssey
so many of the "i only use chat gpt for ___" excuses are concerning because people use it in place of learning basic, valuable skills.
you don't need chat gpt to write professional sounding emails for you, there are many many guides on the internet and with a bit of practise you can learn to write them yourself. a very important skill for a professional to have, and some of the basic rules will carry over into irl conversations!
you don't need chat gpt to be a "more detailed search engine", because you're robbing yourself of the chance to learn how to find and filter information on the internet and evaluate the credibility of sources. which is a VITAL skill. plus, chat gpt is notorious for being wrong?
if you use it to write essays, you're taking away your ability to hone your research skills, your writing skills, your critical thinking skills. your ability to create persuasive arguments!
and for most of the other reasons people use chat gpt, there are non-ai websites for that! for maths, wolfram alpha. for figuring out what you can cook with the ingredients you have there's supercook and the like. for creating routines, there's about a million apps!
whatever you "only" use chatgpt for i promise there are better websites out there that you don't have to worry will produce complete bullshit???? and destroy the environment???
Hey, look! A study showing that people who use chatgpt to study do worse on exams!
Seriously: you are not helping yourself.
my friend is a college professor and has reliably called a paper as being ai written before running it through the detection software. Because they fucking suck.
you better watch out you better watch out YOU BETTER WATCH OUT
Coming for you through the snow
I think people keep forgetting the “innocent until proven guilty” part of our law system
until they’ve for sure, in court, proven that Luigi Mangione is, in fact, the shooter, then there’s definitely a chance that they’re still out there
And if any of you happen to be on the jury, and they lay out the case before you, and the odds look good that it was him....... are you SURE you're sure? Maybe you're like "nah I think the guy in the photo is different to the bloke in front of me." Maybe you're like "Yeah but how could he get all the way to a different state so quickly with a back injury? Idk guys I think it might not be him. My mother had horrific back pain and she couldnt make it to the grocery store, much less across state lines. And in a greyhound?? Notoriously uncomfortable ans would agravate a back injury??? No way." "They found him in a different state, days later, but still wearing the same outfit and with a manifesto in his pocket? At a MacDonald's? At 9.15 am???? Idk guys that's just weird; what, he didn't have anywhere to change outfits? All a bit weirdly convenient don't you think?" "Nah the guy who shot the CEO had completely different eyebrows to this guy. It's not him."
Come up with reasons to have reasonable doubt. Do whatever you can to convince your fellow jurors to have reasonable doubt.
Alternatively: remember that you can also find him Not Guilty on the grounds that even if he DID do it, you don't think he should be punished for it.
Even if they prove in court that Luigi Mangione is in fact the shooter, you can still find him Not Guilty.

Things I didn't know I needed to know
GREGORY HINES & MIKHAIL BARYSHNIKOV White Nights (1985) dir. Taylor Hackford
Masters of their craft.
My favorite thing about this sequence is that if you don’t know who Hines and Baryshnikov are, and I tell you one is a ballet dancer and one taps, you should be able to figure out who’s who based on their specific movements, even though the choreography is the same.
ABSOLUTELY. It’s so obvious in the way they move, and things like the positioning of the hips as they do the same step. Where the weight is in the leg. All those things. It’s one of the things that makes the sequence such a pleasure to watch – you can see that both of them are amazing dancers and you can also learn a lot about their specific disciplines and the differences between them watching it.
OK OK I am actually going to go through those gifs one by one to talk about the things that really strike me in each one as demonstrating the two styles of dance. I’m sure I am missing some things, this is just what is obvious to me.
1. Look how they lead the movement as they step back. Baryshnikov moves his leg following a hip/torso movement. Hines comes very close to leading with his knee. You’ll see that knee-leading motion in a later step, too. You can probably do this yourself: stand with your feet and hips square to the front, then turn your hips towards the left and use the pull of it to lead your leg into the step. Then go back to square, and take a step back by letting your knee open to the side and go backwards. You should be able to feel the muscles working pretty differently – the first movement engages a lot more of your core, the second relies more on your various thigh muscles.
2. The leg extension in the air – that perfect straight leg is ballet to the core – and look at how differently their hips and feet are when they land! Baryshnikov’s hips are squared to the side and his feet are aligned; Hines’s hips are angled and his back foot faces the front and is flat. If a ballet dancer had his foot like that – and he might – his hips wouldn’t be doing that angle.
3. This is a tap sequence and it’s where that knee-lead comes in again. Hines’s hips are loose and his knees seem to be leading the movement – almost like they are pulling both his hips and his ankles along for the ride. You can see where his feet will strike by watching the knees. Baryshnikov is not a tap dancer and it really shows here! Once again you can see that he moves his hips in order to shift his knees and weight.
4. There are a few things here but the biggest to me is how they land out of that jump. Hines lands…well, like a tap dancer. He comes down hard and flat – you can see the little jolt as he hits – like he’s slammin’ that tap shoe down to make a big ol’ noise. Baryshnikov’s landing foot isn’t as easy to see, but he comes down toe-first, as is correct for ballet.
5. Again there are a few, but what I find most striking is the looseness/rigidness of posture. Both of them have immense body control, but Hines is letting his joints flex more in the air. It looks to me like again he brings his heel down harder, as well, on both back and front legs – in fact I kind of wonder if the heeled boots Baryshnikov has on are to make it easier for him to match Hines’s foot movements in certain sequences, since he won’t have to bring his foot down as far. (They’re both in shoes with some degree of heel, but Hines’s are much less so.)
6. Aaah both of these are lovely spins. Again with the rigidity vs looseness in the joints, but also, Hines traces MUCH more of his foot on the ground, which is common in tap spins but uncommon in ballet. His weight is slightly less centered over the support leg, and you also can see the knee-lead vs hip-lead here as well – look how Baryshnikov shifts his weight, then look how Hines does it. And as they come out of it, Baryshnikov has his toe pointed and his heel up, while Hines snaps his heel down against the floor.
"Orlando Bloom signed to the movie the day before he showed up to shoot this. He came right in and just got the character. He had about ten minutes to work on the stuff with the sword. The flip and everything like that... But just how well he plays this scene is just amazing. Everything about the character you need to know comes across here."

Why are we bringing back the fascism and white nationalism of the 1930s instead of bringing back full movies with intermissions built in. If Wicked wants to be four hours I should get to do that all at once with a pee break supported by sweeping entr’acte music
israel banned mosques from playing the adhan
Ben Gvir stops mosques from playing the adhan, saying it 'disturbs' Jewish residents
me when i’m the only democracy in the middle east or whatever they call themselves
I had to write YEARS of posts about British Clownfall and South Korea just straight up speed ran theirs a mere seven minutes longer than it takes to watch Wicked
I literally just got back from seeing Wicked what's going on??
Oh, well, so as the pre-movie ads were playing, Korea's desperately unpopular president decided he didn't like his fellow party creeps getting impeached for crimes and his shitty budget not being approved, so he threw a spectacular temper tantrum, accused all opposition party politicians of being North Korea sympathisers trying to overthrow democracy, and DECLARED MARTIAL LAW.
<nobody-liked-that.jpeg>
Even his own party opposed him doing this, which tells you a lot about the staggering stupidity of this move.
NOW! Martial law can be annulled by a majority vote in the National Assembly, but part of the terms of martial law mean that political activities are banned to prevent such a vote taking place. The minimum number for a majority is 190. So, the stage becomes set - all parties are now desperate to get 190 total members into the Assembly, while President Yoon Suk-Yeol is now desperate to keep them out.
About an hour into you watching the film Wicked, the military tried to lock down the National Assembly building and disperse protesters who gathered in front of it. Soldiers tried to gain entry, but were humiliatingly blocked by party officials who sprayed them with fire extinguishers. Instead they decided to therefore block entry into the building, to keep 190 (or more) people from voting.
As you watched the film Wicked move into its third act, soldiers tried to move into the crowd of protesters, and were politely but firmly denied. Here is footage of an embarassed soldier being rotated and repelled by the crowd.
Meanwhile, Democratic Party members Lee Jae-myung and Lee Seong-yoon, blocked by the army, literally climbed over a five foot fence to get into the National Assembly so they could go and vote.
Finally, as you watched the credits of the film Wicked roll, the 190th necessary member brushed off twigs and staggered into the chamber, and so the vote was immediately called rather than waiting a single minute longer. The vote to annul martial law took place and was passed 190-0. It was completely unanimous, including members of the ruling People Power Party.
Martial law ended 2 hours and 48 minutes after it began.
Protesters are now calling for the impeachment of Yoon Suk-yeol. Military generals are milling about going "Whaaat? Martial law? Oh dear me no, I knew nothing about that at all, I have no idea how three military helicopters and a troop of soldiers got to the National Assembly so fast..." We shall see how soon the clowns fall.
So. That happened.
I'm. Wow. I think that whole thing went down faster than I've been about to get a goddamn tow off the side of this road. I'm impressed.
actually you know what it's been two hours and 17 minutes. we got time to beat them. CMON TOW MAN
Manifesting good vibes and your successful desertion of the road faster than South Korea took to overthrow martial law 🤞
Hi. Things are bleak, I know that. I know that we paid for Trump's last term with blood and it is likely the price will be blood again.
But listen to me. LISTEN.
