Saying "this has been a topic of extensive discussion, you're just 21" isn't a personal attack, you're just 21.
250 years and most native tribal groups continue to not be federally recognized. Embarrassing!
Hey so a small thing that literally everyone who sees this is capable of is correcting any āused toā statements about native people in this country.
āNative people used to live in this National Parkā No. They still do.
āNative people used to tell these stories-ā No. They still do.
āNative people used to use this plant as a natural remedy-ā No. They still do.
Better yet, familiarize yourself with the tribes local to you. Odds are, they do not yet have federal recognition. You can still read the stories they have to share, you can share their ongoing battle for recognition with others, you can sign petitions and spread the word to others to do so as well. But do something.
David Wojnarowicz,1988
Wojnarowicz died in his Manhattan home on July 22, 1992 at the age of 37, from what his boyfriend, Tom Rauffenbart, confirmed was AIDS
His memoir ā a series of essays and vignettes that starts out fairly experimental, at first reflecting on his life as a homeless teenage prostitute at truck stops and in Times Square, then progressively becoming more lucid and political as his partner dies from AIDS ā is one of the best, most underrated American memoirs. Itās called Close to the Knives, one of my absolute favorite books of all time.
His longest, most serious partner was the artist Peter Hujar who helped him quit heroin and mentored him as an artist. The AIDS focused chapters are mainly centered around his rage and grief watching Peter and other friends die.
Wojnarowicz is also one of the artists featured in Olivia Laingās excellent book The Lonely City. Thereās also a documentary about him on Youtube. I really recommend looking into learning about him and his art, itās very interesting and he was incredibly talented
