The Spanish government first endorsed plans for paid leave for painful periods and strengthening access to abortion in May.
āSpanish lawmakers adopted [in December 2022] a new bill creating a menstrual leave for women suffering from painful periods and strengthening access to abortion in public hospitals.
This text was adopted by deputies in the lower house of the Spanish parliament on its first reading, with 190 votes in favour, 154 against, and 5 abstentions. It will now go to the Senateā¦
The length of sick leave that doctors will be able to grant to women suffering from painful periods has not been specified in the bill.
When this bill is finally adopted, Spain will become the first country in Europe and one of the few in the world to integrate this measure into its legislation, following the example of Japan, Indonesia and Zambia.
However, there are reservations in certain quarters, particularly within the UGT trade union, one of the countryās two major unions, over concerns about the possibility that employers who want to avoid these absences will put a brake on the hiring of women.
Access to abortion in public hospitals
āMenstrual leaveā is one of the key measures in the broader legislation, which also provides for increased access to abortion in public hospitals. Less than 15 per cent of abortions performed in the country take place in these institutions, mainly because of conscientious objections by doctors.
It is also to allow minors to have abortions without parental permission at 16 and 17 years of age, reversing a requirement introduced by a previous conservative government in 2015.Ā
Abortion was decriminalized in Spain in 1985 and then legalized in 2010, but abortion remains a right fraught with difficulties in this country with a strong Catholic tradition. Ā
This bill also provides for the reinforcement of sex education in schools as well as the free distribution of contraceptives and menstrual hygiene products in high schools.
Spain is a country considered a reference for womenās rights in Europe, especially since the adoption of a law on gender violence in 2004. The Sanchez government has more women than men in its ranks.ā -via Euronews, 12/15/22
Thereās an easy way to determine yardage from a ball of yarn: all you need is a tape measurer and a small electronic scale.
Weigh the ball of yarn as it is on the electronic scale and write it down. Then, measure out one yard, ball it up, and place only that on the scale. (Donāt cut it off, just ball it up and place on the scale by itself, as carefully as you can.)Ā Divide original weight by the weight of the yard of yarn, and you have your yardage!
Hereās an example.
I have 48.11 grams of yarn. One yard weighs 0.81 grams. If I divide 48.11 by 0.81, I get 59.39. Rounding down, this means I have 59 yards.
You can do this with grams to meters as well, you just have to measure out one meter of the yarn instead of a yard.Ā
i want a shirt that has a QR code on it for some kind of horrible malware so that if anyone ever tries to film me in public their phone will automatically scan the code and be reduced to a functionless brick
i could never have a tail because i would be swangin that shit like crazy. ohhh i love this pottery museum theres so many awesome pots. dont pet my head or ill cause millions in damages
This is one of the many reasons why I walk by every single red bucket in the run-up to Christmas. Theyāre not getting my money, I donāt care how nice the people ringing bells are.
Ever since the time they threatened to close all their soup kitchens in NYC if a law that did something as simple as allow companies to extend spousal benefits to their employeeās same-sex domestic partners I have refused to buy from them or donate to them.Ā
Itās that time of year again! In case people donāt know⦠the Salvation Army is shitty peoples.
Also, the married women are not paid (and therefore canāt qualify for assistance if they should ever divorce, etc). And worthĀ āof courseā less than a man.
ā In the Armyās case, the agreement for compensation is that the officer allowance be paid jointly to the husbandāthe check is written in his name. Officially, the wife is a āworker without expectation of remuneration,ā and her husband receives 40 percent more of an allowance as a married man than he would as a single man. ā
To my American followers. Donāt support Salvation Army. Not only are they homophobic as shit, but Iāve also heard that they abuse a lot f homeless people.
They only care about money, please donāt donate to them and give your money to charities that actually help people
To be clear: this is specific to America. It is not necessarily going to be true for all countries. Please donāt boycott your own salvos without proper investigation: in many countries they do good work.
Sorry but no, the Salvation Army was founded in the UK and even there still are homophobic as hell, to the point that they still refuse to let out gay people hold positions of power in the organisation. This is a callout for the whole group, not just the US. - Purple
Confirmation this screenshot is real. It was tweeted at 3:06 PM on Nov 3, 2022 (local time). For those with screen readers, the tweet reads: "The FBI has received credible information of a broad threat to synagogues in NJ. We ask at this time that you take all security precautions to protect your community and facility. We will share more information as soon as we can. Stay alert. In case of emergency call police."
They followed up at 3:39 pm with: "We are taking a proactive measure with this warning while investigative processes are carried out." Then at 6:00 pm: "The FBI takes all threats seriously and we are working with our law enforcement partners actively investigating this threat. We are also engaged with our faith based partners in the affected community."
This NPR article (published 7:35 PM Nov 3, 2022) has slightly more detail: "The alert was posted after officials discovered an online threat directed broadly at synagogues in New Jersey, a law enforcement official said. The posting, though, did not target any specific synagogue by name, the official said." The article also says officials in Jersey City and Hoboken had promised increased police presence.
As of 11:10 PM Nov 3, 2022, Newark's FBI field site's website has no further information. Please do not panic, but consider talking precautionary action and/or reaching out to your synagogue for advice/concerns/etc if you attend in New Jersey. Remember that a threat is not a guarantee, but that acting with your own safety and the safety of your community and family in mind is always a positive.
I am reblogging because this post is time sensitive, and to provide further links/verification. I have only done a cursory search, and I encourage those in the area or more up to date to reblog with updates and/or corrections. Again, please do not panic or sensationalize, as it does no one any good-- this is only to spread information for those who need it.
Much love to all my followers, and I hope this turns out to be a cruel hoax.
you know that expression, "dance like no one is watching you?"
try writing like no one is going to read it
it's easier to let yourself go and just enjoy the process of creation when you aren't also playing 6 dimensional chess with your insecurities and anxieties
write because you have fun writing and if you never post it anywhere that's totally fine because you enjoyed your time with the process
My dog is oddly specific or maybe just greedy, but she wanted her breakfast in not one food toy, not two food toys, but ALL three of her food toys.
How do I know this?
I filled the two toys plus her food dish, showed her then walked away to do something. She immediately followed with her last food toy, THREW it at me, and grumbled.
we need to destigmatize dropping out of college I am so serious. like dude if u realize that is Bad For You then you can just Leave. I am so fucking serious. just stop. there are other options and you donāt need to force yourself through shit you canāt do and go into debt. i promise you can just Not.
someone made a REALLY FUCKING GOOD POINT in the tags (actually a couple people did) so adding on: YOU CAN LEAVE COLLEGE AND COME BACK LATER. if college is bad for you Right Now, if you have mental or physical health issues you need to address first, if you need to get more financially stable, YOU CAN LEAVE AND COME BACK. dropping out is not an end all Final Option. you are always able to come back. thereās no age limit on going to college. if being in college is unhealthy or not doable for you Right Now, but you want to come back later, You Can Do That. you can take breaks and time to assess your situation. thatās allowed.
