A lot of people are ragging on the 'cable diverted to avoid Dobby's grave after Harry Potter fans raise a stink' thing and while I also love ragging on Harry Potter fans being weird, in this case it looks like the story was completely made up.

tl;dr: There's no evidence the interview that this was mentioned in even exists, no evidence the route of the cable has ever changed, and the whole story seems to originate from one dude's podcast.

The story also broke into mainstream via the Daily Mail, who are ... rarely if ever honest or accurate.

Reblogging because I'm just so fucking sick of all the erasure of people who have "both" within and outside of the intersex community.

The "intersex people can't have both" thing hurts people in real life. You have to understand the real effects of this.

Every time I see "it's a myth that intersex people have both a penis and a vagina, actually!" I feel sick to my stomach. Because they're trying to hide who I am. I'm too gross to be seen or thought of by them, so to put them at ease, they'll act like I'm a myth. You think my doctors didn't try to hide that I had a penis and a vagina too? You think they didn't try to act like that was a myth too? You're acting the same as the people who forced CIMI onto me.

I had a hard time accepting I had a penis and a vagina because of this exact sentiment. Reading about it in medical documents about me made me SO CONFUSED. That confusion could have been avoided had I not been exposed to the sentiment that "intersex people can't have both". Hell, if intersexism weren't a thing, I wouldn't have to go digging around my medical records to find out this information in the first place.

If it disgusts you to think that intersex people can have a penis and a vagina, or if you spread the idea that intersex people can't have a penis and a vagina, you need to change that. You are allowing the world to hide information from intersex people about our own bodies.

INTERSEX PEOPLE CAN HAVE "BOTH" WHETHER IT MAKES YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE OR NOT. Intersex people can look like ANYTHING. And frankly, I am sick of having my intersexuality hidden from everyone, including myself.

I'm not going to stop talking about this.
