TW: residential schools, cultural appropriation, racism
Reminder that modern day colonization and genocide is still running rampant
Reminder that there are still residential schools open in the US, despite thousands, I repeat THOUSANDS of children's bodies being found at them
Reminder that cultural appropriation is still something that is widely accepted in our society, even though it is absolutely vile
Reminder that BIPOC voices are still being silenced, their voices suppressed, their content forcibly removed, white people being heard and listened to over them
Reminder that racism is a problem created by white people, and a problem that white people need to fix. WE need to do the work to dismantle the racist mindset that we were brought up with. It is OUR job to call out our white family, friends, colleges, peers, etc. It is OUR job to learn and educate ourselves. It is OUR job to listen to BIPOC voices and support them
Reminder that no one is obligated to share their racial trauma and educate, and that it is extremely difficult to do so, and if someone is willing to do that, as a white person, you shut up and listen and try to compensate them for their emotional labor if possible
Reminder that silence is violence and it is impossible to be a real ally or advocate without actually doing the work
