main interests: mcsr (separate sideblog), mcc/bw/other events, hermitcraft, empires s1
i tag nearly everything, though my organization is slightly messy, but a thing will generally be tagged under the char or cc it applies to, or the larger fandom if its a more general post, and any other pertinent tags
i may post more art and writing but until i actually have something concrete i will not have any dedicated tags for them
original posts are tagged #.mine
art tag is #artinc
i periodically go insane over very specific aus and then seemingly completely forget abt them dw about it
Decided to combine my 2 current hyperfixations together (purple minecraft guy and strange fascination with military jets)
Really happy with this one, experimenting lately with more graphic design elements in my art and typography, I'm a big fan of the metalheart and brutalism aesthetics.
every person who complains about the vbrpf disambig should be placed in front of a computer and made to connect an ambiguous tag mentioning scott smajor to one (1) singular smp and see how well that goes
*jigsaw voice* hello twitter user. you have previously claimed that rp and rpf tags should be completely separate characters. before you is the above tag relating to scott smajor. you must succinctly tie it to a single character from the fandom tags below. you have 60 seconds.
During the second week of Lifesteal, I found several insecurities in the Lifesteal SMP server which let me ping the server requesting information about players' positions. I enabled it for myself, and then immediately told a server owner...
I had a hunch that the commands which leaked player info was a part of a plugin where permission levels could be specified, so I hoped that by telling an admin, the command wouldn't be removed but instead disabled. The next day I logged on and found out I was right- I could no longer run the command. This meant that no other players on the server could ever enable it, and I could never disable it. So if you ever saw me stream on Lifesteal and complain that my chat was broken- that was why! I had to disable it so that no chatters would ask, "hey Squiddo, why is your chat being flooded with other people's coordinates in real time?".
It also told me people's hearts, current health, dimension, etc. But I refined it to just post the coordinates of items dropped.
The client I used saved a .TXT to my computer of every chat message sent during a play session, so I wrote a simple python script to scrape the coordinates of every block dropped on the Lifesteal SMP. Then, I coded it to create a .PGM file using those coordinates-
A .PGM file is an extremely simple type of image. A "1" represents black and a "0" represents white. You can make it more complex, for example, "0" could be white, "9" could be black and "2,3,4,5,6,7" and "8" would all be grey values somewhere inbetween.
Using that knowledge, I created a heat map of the Lifesteal SMP, with each pixel representing a small block radius. The brighter the pixel is, the more items have been dropped there. This made it easy to see where bases were, because tripwire hook generators would constantly be running, which (obviously) dropped tripwire hooks all the time.
Although what I didn't mention is that I also told another admin that I was stuck with this command running and asked them to disable it. I had no idea how long it would be before my cheeky coord leaker would be turned off, and it turned out to be about only a week. After all, I don't want to cheat this season... But this was so cool, I had to investigate it at least a LITTLE bit! Hehe..
The resulting image was a heatmap of one random week on the Lifesteal SMP. Since there's only a very small number of players active- probably less than 10- the heat map is very sparse, and looks a lot like... A constellation.
The Lifesteal Constellation! Click to see all the stars!
At the time, I was calling this exploit notcom because it's very similar to the nocom exploit from 2B2T, except this is not nocom...
My coding is very bad so the map isn't perfect at all. It was easier to find the bases just by pressing CTRL F and searching for 'tripwire hook'. But I still wanted to make something unique using the data I collected!
In the end, I didn't grief, steal, or kill anybody- I just left everybody a delicious cake. The insecurities are now fixed, too.
Thank you for learning about notcom and the Lifesteal constellation! :D
