So this cave person gets sent forward in time a few thousand years, enough to get to the Present Day, whatever you want it to be, and it isn't because of getting stuck in ice or a swamp or sorcery or blessing or curse, but just due to an accident in the logic of the universe, really just an improbability exclusive to the confines of the story, and it isn't ever explained beyond that, so the cave person is young and healthy and competent so they get a series of jobs and reasonably stable housing with the occasional challenge, nothing lethal because the story would end too soon, and they get a driver's license and have to provide their date of birth, and they know it's long ago because they still remember it fairly well, not their birth because no one remembers that, but their youth and family, they remember the fine details, and this causes enough confusion that the details make their way to the kinds of people interested in studying accidents in the logic of the universe, and they have a series of productive interviews with our ancient protagonist, and in the course of this the cave person mentions having to escape from a carnivorous beast in their youth, and as it happens there is no evidence of this beast ever existing in the fossil record or otherwise, suggesting that the person with the memories is, in actuality, not from the past of our present but from some other past, the past of a different present, and all those other timewise relationships we don't have clear wording for, and even beyond the philosophical questions this raises are the potential applications of the knowledge that other presents can exist, and other beasts may be or have been there, and which other presents may run alongside our own, and would we like to know more about them and how, but during this time our ancient former cave dwelling person returns to retrieve their driver's license with its birthdate of NA, and proceeds to their shift at the Beefsteak Casino
