Saddest thing ever is reading an academic paper about a threatened or declining species where you can tell the author is really trying to come up with ways the animal could hypothetically be useful to humans in a desperate attempt to get someone to care. Nobody gives a shit about the animals that “don’t affect” us and it seriously breaks my heart
“No I can’t come out tonight I’m sobbing about this entomologist’s heartfelt plea for someone to care about an endangered moth”
This is how I learn there's a moth whose tiny caterpillars live exclusively off the old shells of dead tortoises.
[Image description: text from a section titled On Being Endangered: An Afterthought that says:
Realizing that a species is imperiled has broad connotations, given that it tells us something about the plight of nature itself. It reminds us of the need to implement conservation measures and to protect the region of which the species is a part. But aside form the broader picture, species have intrinsic worth and are deserving of preservation. Surely an oddity such as C. vicinella cannot simply be allowed to vanish.
We should speak up on behalf of this little moth, not only because by so doing we would bolster conservation efforts now underway in Florida, [highlighting begins] but because we would be calling attention to the existence of a species that is so infinitely worth knowing. [end highlighting]
But is quaintness all that can be said on behalf of this moth? Does this insect not have hidden value beyond its overt appeal? Does not its silk and glue add, potentially, to its worth? Could these products not be unique in ways that could ultimately prove applicable?

I was so inspired by this I made it into a piece of art for a final in one of my courses for storytelling in conservation

The news that Sony will no longer be making physical discs for new games starting January 2028 makes me doubt we'll get a physical release of Horizon 3...
Personal rant below the cut
Tarot Menu: Justice means a just sentence, but also due process
V: (Looks at the warehouse full of the 20+ Scavs she extrajudicially killed looking for Evelyn)
V: (Closes Tarot Menu) Whoops
Judy: At this rate, we'll never get to see Fingers, and who knows what could happen to Evelyn if we're not fast enough! Maybe we can ask someone to trade places in line?

V: Or...

i do think lobbying for data centres over climate goals should be considered a crime against humanity btw

people calling ted faro the king of losers makes my chest feel all warm and fuzzy
Friendly reminder that Ted Faro is canonically the world’s first trillionaire in the world of Horizon, so also feel free to extend this nickname to Elon Musk as well
i just assume anything that applies to ted farto applies to elno husk
I really like when games have stealth* attacks
In Ghost of Yotei, Atsu can use her kusarigama, a small scythe on a long chain, for special assassinations. The chain wraps around the target's neck, pulls them screaming through the air, and then they land at her feet and she kills them
In Horizon: Zero Dawn, I remember Aloy has one where she jumps on a target, balances crouched on their waist while they're still standing, and stabs her spear through their chest, before flipping back behind cover. I don't think Forbidden West has any that dramatic, which is a shame if you ask me
I know there are more, but this is all I can think of off the top of my head, so I might come back to this later
I love how it doesn't matter what expedition it is.
They all turn into excited kids when they meet penguins.

if you don't do anything else today,
Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.
have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.
and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.
black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.
if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.
This is Juneteenth.
white people CAN interact with this post. share it, spread it.
"Nicole": I trust you to do the right thing, Isaac. I love you. Make us whole again.
Isaac: I will :)
Me, watching this unfold: dude
Doing New Game+ and found a security recording I don't remember getting the first time around, with Elizabeth Cross talking to Isaac when he thought it was Nicole. Even after knowing how this ends, it still felt so chilling seeing how easily the Marker changed Isaac's perception so easily while this stuff was happening
A trans woman was just sentenced to 15 years in prison for defending herself from an attacker. She wanted no part in the fight and witnesses described her actions as self-defense. With right-wing media constantly portraying her as "evil" since the incident, the trial was over before it began.
Jaia's prison ID number is 3492500039. The state of New York handles commissary money transfers through JPay. Monetary support is crucial for even a 'short' stay in prison, all the more so for trans women who are disproportionately mistreated by corrections officers and other prisoners, and frequently placed in solitary for their 'own safety'.
JPay offers convenient & affordable correctional services, including money transfer, email, videos, tablets, music, education & parole and p
