Ok so I want to rant about Greek/Roman literature and contemporary interpretations so Iām going to. Iām reading this book on classical myths and it touches on changing perspectives regarding like relationships and it touches on Achilles but primarily focuses on Briseis leaving Patroklos as his dearest friend and footnote.
Like Homer literally writes that Achielles says to his mother
āseeing that my dear comrade Patroclus has fallenāhe whom I valued more than all others, and loved as dearly as my own life? I have lost himā
LIKE THAT IS BEAUTIFUL.
And once again an academic source negates this and itās not even an old book. It was first published in 2008 but still.
