i am in fact NOT being very brave about it and will whine and complain until i die. As is my right
We live in a dystopia....
If the background actors don't come in for work because they exist virtually then the background costume and background hair and make up and their catering and transport and all the other departments that look after them get cut too. These things have knock on effects...
Queer kids deserve to become queer adults. To grow up supported. To go through adolescence finding themselves, instead of going through their 20s grieving the years they werenāt safe and had to pretend to be someone else. To be safely queer before financial independence. Wanting queer youngsters to not have a lifetime of conditioning and trauma to unpack isnāt child abuse, it is literally the opposite. Queer kids deserve to be safe.
I think a good way to describe a qpr is by using my Guinea pigs as an example.
My Guinea pigs very close with each other and do not like being apart. They are bonded to each other and hopefully they will be together for the rest of their lives but that doesnāt mean what they have is romantic. They are simply lifelong companions and thatās all.
Sorry, PETA, I would 100% eat a T-Rex.
T.Rex would absolutely eat a chicken
A chicken would eat a T Rex, if it could get away with it.
The aritcle:
More than 150 workers for Facebook, TikTok and ChatGPT pledged to establish the first African Content Moderators Union
From what I understand from the article, itās even rougher than normal content moderation: a lot of these workers were hired to train AIs like ChatGPT away from, well, all the worst that the web could provide, to detoxify it for the end users. They are specifically given the worst stuff that can be dredged up from the depths of the internet, and asked to label it - so that the AI can use that data to identify hatespeech, suicide ideation, racism, CSA, etc etc.
Itās an awful job, and some are paid less than $2 an hour. Workers have PTSD. Are they being offered counselling, support, compensation? Fuck no, they get punished for speaking up.
Good luck to the African Content Moderators Union, I hope they get the protections and compensation that their workers need.
Ok I want to say something controversial
But you are responsible for your own safe spaces. You can block tags, block words, block people.
āBut i thought fandom was supposed to be a safe spaceā āyeah you have to curate it.
Unfortunately one personsās safe space may be another personsā trigger. Thatās ok. Simply block them, block the tag, block the word etc. They can do the same for you.
Maybe Iām just out of touch, but Iāve been around since the days of ādonāt like, donāt readā and thatās a good philosophy. If it squicks you, scroll past. If it causes you anxiety or upset, block! Plenty of people are responsive if you ask them to tag an upsetting trigger. And if theyāre dicks about it, block em.
Since different people have different needs, one personās safe space will be anotherās Trauma Central.
I donāt know who said it first, but āI need to be able to express my anger without shameā and āI need to be away from yelling and loud noisesā are both valid needs people can have for a safe space that really arenāt compatible with each other.
So are āI need to process my traumaā and āI need to not meet any trauma.ā
Or āI want a safe space to tell/read the stories that speak to meā and āthose stories are distressing to me.ā
Insisting that your needs are the only needs anyone should have is not a safe space, itās its own act of violence.
You donāt get to make others homeless to make the universe your personal safe space.
āInsisting that your needs are the only needs anyone should have is not a safe space, itās its own act of violence.ā
This expresses my feelings precisely.
While I understand her motives and reasonings and I absolutely do not hate her as a character, I would still very much like to punch Grace Blackthorn in the face.
I find it personally offensive how many bad writers can get published so easily.
I used to find it reassuring, like, "Haha, wow, if THIS can get published..." but now I take it to mean "It doesn't matter if your book is good or not, all that matters is if you're in the right social circles (and you're not)"
stop putting stem and arts majors against each other!! they are partners and they are in love!!
We gotta team up to fight the true enemy:
This is the best thing
Appreciation post for Halās Murder Monologueā¢
A family can be a neurotic queer coded Jewish werewolf; the future villain of the story; and the tea-making ghost that haunts their house.
