This scene in Spanish hurts more because instead of saying "affection," it’s "cariño" in Spanish, which, although it means the same, has a stronger weight since it leans towards a more intimate and personal side. On the other hand, "affection" is more formal and general.

In addition, the change of voice gives it a touch that 😭

viktor arcane has to be one of the characters ever.

he's gay. he's terminally ill. he's suicidal. he's from league of legends. he's in a toxic relationship with an orb. he also might be the orb(???). he bullshitted his way into the academy by pretending he went there. he rizzed up a guy so he wouldn't kill himself. he then tried to impress said guy by breaking into his boss's lab. then when he got caught he tried to play it off by saying he thought this big intimidating door was his bedroom door and he was just trying to sneak a guy in there. he nearly died because hetero sex was happening like a mile away. kinda. he took illegal drugs. he's also the apprentice of the guy who's making the illegal drugs and never mentions it. he's inspired off of the tale of frankenstein's monster. he got shot by a missle and fucking died. when he came back to life he immediately broke up his messy gay situationship and became jesus fucking christ.

Something I haven't seen a take on is how Jayce doesn't really save Viktor for Viktor's sake, but for his own. It's a trauma response more than it's a conscious act of selflessness.

He sees Viktor in the midst of pure chaos, he's traumatised, he's disorientated, people are dead, hurt, his entire life is crumbling to pieces, he's trying to anchor himself by griping to Mel but it's not enough, he's losing it, he's utterly powerless and adrift.

Enters Viktor, and Jayce throws in everything he's got, immediately, to save him. Beacause it's the only thing he can do, the only thing he can act on. Beacause, just as Jinx, he's desperate to fix things, to fix everything, and Viktor is the only thing available for mending. Jayce's egotistical, that's his thing, it doesn't make him a bad person, but that's his nature, to be self-absorbed - he drinks form a mug with his face on it! - and so trauma brings this out in him, to act from his own perspective, to anchor himself first, and Viktor is a mean to do just that.

Thing is, Viktor would've probably died in a short time anyway, and Jayce was ready to not only let him go, but to honour his will by not letting hextech be used to harm.

Instead, Jayce goes "fuck that" and literally - literally - sacrifices Viktor to the arcane to soothe his own ache.

And thing is, the first episodes were about losing anchors and sinking to your worst self, so it'll be interesting to see how both Jayce and Viktor would go without having eachother

I don't know what's better,

Jayce going from nobody to councillor, everyone supporting and praising him, hextech at hand for him to create and cultivate. Then also finding out that maybe the spotlight isn't as glorious as it was supposed to be - finding the truth about the under and the upper city, about how people were living, about how they were being treated. Jayce shying from the light.

Then Mel, who has been adorned in light all her life, her mother being a warlord of Noxus and then going to becoming councillor of Piltover herself. Now suddenly, she's half a mind to help her mother, who gave birth to her after all, and another mind to help Piltover, the city that welcomed her even when she fell disgraced. Mel then shying away from the light because so many people are asking of her so many things that she can't always fulfill.

cannot get over jayce sprinting down the hall with viktor in his arms and immediately going for the most extreme action to save his life. jayce using the hexcore to save him despite the fact that viktor made him promise to destroy it is sooo so good. of course that’s how it happened! jayce doing whatever it takes to bring his partner back uncaring of the consequences but the viktor that woke up isn’t the person he knew. in saving viktor, jayce killed him and made something new and this new thing does not want him anymore. affection held them together but the thing that saved him tore that affection out. love made the monster and now they both have to live with it. i love you doomed yaoi and gay divorce!!!
