My body keeps me going.
My body knows I have to function, so it holds back the pain.
Then, when the day is done, my body lets go. It keeps me safe while the pain and the grief rush through me.
Even while it holds me as I cry, it promises me.
“Tomorrow, we’ll get up again. Tomorrow we’ll try and we’ll survive.”
And tomorrow night the pain my come again. But for today, my body keeps me going.
Even as my joints ache and my mind screams, my body keeps me going. And it reminds me that we have come so far, my body and I.
Even when I feel broken, like my body will never be “right,” my body is there.
They say the body keeps the score. Well my body says that for every bad day, every awful night, there will be days of sunshine and nights of laughter and love. And based on my body’s score, those days and nights must be coming soon. And when they do, they’ll last.
My body keeps me going. It tells me when to rest, when to cry, when to move.
If I’m going to be trapped in a body, this one’s not too bad.
I’m grateful for my body.
