Dog bunk bed made from my old black busted dresser that I gutted and chalk painted! It needs some touching up with paint (I might put designs on it), some hooks to hang their leashes and harnessess, and hardware for the drawer. I might rip off the back panel but idk. The two pads use pillowcases, so they are easily interchangeable and washable.

Nala loves being up high and being able to eat food where Koa can’t reach, and Koa loves sleeping in cozy places (I may put curtains in to up the cozy factor), so it’s a win win!

It’s hard to believe that Koa was so overweight a few years ago, I’ll be working on getting him a bit more fit, but at least right now he’s a nice and trim old man.

Nala hasn't eaten her food since Thursday night, she's already kind of picky about how/when she eats, the stress of moving is getting to her :c . She's eaten a tiny bit of cheese, but not her actual food. We are walking at the park and a lady called them both stunning c: !

Having the park so close is really cool, I took them for a walk at lunch. Earlier in the morning it was super nice, we spent almost an hour walking, and the first dog we saw was a corgi!

Nala's 'I'M MAD AND SCARED ABOUT THESE PEOPLE IN THE HOUSE' noise is similar to her 'HELLO I MISSED YOU' yodel, except it's like a scary remix of it where it's growly and frantic like a weird siren. Yodelling ferociously isn't exactly easy to pull off, and she fails pretty hard at it. It's not too often she does it, only when my brother's friends come over, who she hates.

My facebook memory thing suggested I remember the time in 2013 when I got a nip from Koa (his leg had been trapped and bit out of fear/pain) and my hand swelled up pretty badly, enough that for a day or so I couldn’t make a fist. I don’t think it hurt to make a fist, I just physically could not. It was worse than it looks, I guess!

Parenting personalities

Genetics/health/being neutered aside, do you ever think about how good (or bad lol) of a momma (or daddy) your pup would be?

River would be a great mom up until they’re weaned, then I can imagine her having enough of them pretty quick. Timber similar, maybe not as doting while they’re younger as River, but would go beyond weaning with her patience with them.

Charlie would be the kind of dad to check in but probably not play with or interact with them much. Luka… eh, I can’t imagine him caring one way or another. Loki would be a great, doting, loving dad, who would love to interact and play with them a lot.

Kiba would probably pretend he’s one of the puppies lmao.

I trust none of my dogs with most smaller dogs, especially puppies. Koa is too easily annoyed by happy eager puppies/dogs that get in his face (or exist near him tbh) and get mouthy/snippy/loud when his boundaries are crossed, and Nala plays rough/loves to chase. Maaaaybe Nala would behave differently if it was her puppies because of maternal instincts, and Koa did eventually accept Nala (but she was an older pup when we got her and was pretty good at not letting him pick on her), but I'd be pretty nervous overall.

She’s gorgeous and I want her. What do you guys think are the chances that she’s an actual straight-up cross of a whippet and a basenji? Her color kind of throws me off because I don’t think either of those breeds are usually that color? Either way, I love her.

My first thought is no basenji, probably no whippet either, although maybe in the ears. I know basenjis don’t come in that color. There’s not much info on her, is she an adult? She looks like the size of a basenji. I might have to see her in movement, but nothing stands out to me. She may just be a good ol mutt of unknown origin lol. She’s really adorable though, 10/10 would adopt on looks alone LOL

Well actually the color is really just “tricolor” which basenjis do come in… The big difference is that this dog has a face mask but that marking is dominant and can definitely come from whippets. However, I’ve never seen a whippet with tan points so I’m not sure if the color would be possible from a straight cross. The other difference is that this dog’s tan markings are much paler than what you typically see in basenjis. This could possibly come from whippets though.

All of that said I don’t see anything that really says basenji about the dog’s appearance so I would say she’s probably not a straight cross. I guess I would say maybe but not likely. Agreed that she is super cute though.

Also keep in mind that the petfinder's basenji section very often has mixed or pariah dogs that are put into that category despite more than likely not being a basenji/basenji cross since it's not especially hard for many mixed breeds or other pariahs to look basenji-ish, and the people doing the listing might just place dogs in whatever section might vaguely look like them. There are sometimes SUPER PRETTY dogs in that category because of that, it's fun to browse!

I think the first dog I named was a terrier/malamute mix named Buddy Blue.

My dogs came with their names, and my childhood dogs were named by others since they technically were not mine! I've yet to name a dog :c. I wanted Koa to be Jude at first I think, and I wanted Nala to be Jukebox? Changing their name was too hard, so I stopped trying
