XIAO SHUNYAO (肖顺尧) as Bai Zongying
Fate Chooses You 佳偶天成 (2026)
i think i don't really vibe with most other fans of my favorite male characters is because they usually depict them too much of a man, and i am not interested in men, i am interested in The Character. and i am not saying that they should depict them as women, or nonbinary, or should depict them as feminine, no, not at all. but there's like, you know, you can depict a male character as The Character, and you can depict them as The Man. do you get me? like, i go to the fandom looking for art and fics, and it's just, regardless of his actual characterization, it's all just fantasizing about some kind of an abstract dominant patriarch, wearing my favorite character's face. it may be the most totally-wouldnt-have-normal-relationships (and sometimes even would-literally-abuse-you) kind of guy, and you join a dedicated space for his fans, and all they talk about is how they want to marry and start a tradcore 50s style nuclear family with him. it can be a guy who's arrogance and attempts of domination are explicitly shown to be a facade that hide the fact that he's actually kind of a massive pathetic wet loser, and you go to his fics, and they're all depicting him as a caricaturish daddy dom. at this point it's like, do you even like the character at all, or do you just like The Man, and project this man onto whatever character you find visually attractive? and these people kind of, really really poison actual discussion of the character, who is kind of a fucked up evil person (i only like *those* types, so im talking about them) because they see analysis of the actual character as an attack on their fantasized daddy dom husband, who is actually isn't The Character at all, and is simply a face of the day for The Man
There's so much orientalism in danmei fandoms. It's assigning white actors to characters, it's writing modern aus in the US and making the characters white, it's ignoring the cultural context (especially in “analysis”), it's not bothering to learn how to read pinyin, it's spreading misinformation about queer rights in PRC, it's drawing characters in “traditional” outfits that don't resemble hanfu in any way (even worse, randomly putting them in other East Asian traditional clothing), it's talking over Chinese and other East Asian people, it's writing “it's so xyz ship/character” under every video made by East Asians (I recently saw comments of a hairstyle tutorial flooded with Wei Wuxian, because the guy who made it used a red ribbon...), it's fetishizing East Asian gays and so much more... I stopped engaging with Western danmei fandoms, especially MXTX fandoms because of that. Of course there are some great people there, but from my experience at least solid 3/5 are orientalist and sinophobic.
this is orientalism.

Excuse me I'm extremely normal about The Character. Yes I got a stomachache thinking about them in passing and needed to lie down for a bit before I felt well enough to go about the rest of my day. But apart from that I'm completely and utterly normal about them.
nothing hits quite like tragic doomed estranged sibling characters
i love you friendship and qprs and best friends and friends with benefits and mentorships and roommates and found family and surrogate parents and chosen siblings and rivalries every single specifically and actively nonromantic dynamic that exists
i stopped giving a shit about "legit" purchases of digital products after i spent $80 on the entire Dark Horse collection of Trigun/Trigun Maximum ebook mangas, learning that I only got access to reading them through a proprietary website ereader function, couldn't download them, and couldn't get a refund, and then literally only a year later, getting an e-mail stating that Dark Horse was shutting down that part of their company and I wouldn't even be able to read them anymore. Fuck that
Pirate shit. Don't feel bad for it. It's not "your fault" that artists, independent or otherwise, can't make a living. You downloading an album or ebook for free isn't the cause of the problem. The cause is capitalism, plain and simple, and pirating is a lucky loophole that companies are still trying to stomp out.
Hey, you, cis girl that's very (correctly) vocal about women being allowed to talk about their periods, do you include trans women in that?
I ask because every single time I've tried to talk about it to anyone that isn't a trans woman they get fucking angry. Which has caused me to have to just suffer in silence every single month. So I really relate to cis women when they talk about literally the exact same thing; being shamed by everyone around them their whole lives for talking about their periods, so they just suffer in silence every month as it negatively impacts their work and social lives. But I don't even feel like I can voice that I am literally dealing with the same exact thing because most of y'all react like you want to throw me in front of a bus for saying it, even those of you who act like your such big great transfem allies.
I guess I'll take this opportunity to talk about trans women periods. The first thing any tme person thinks when they hear this is always "how can trans women have periods? They don't have uteruses!"
The answer is: the uterus isn't what causes your period, it is effected by your period. What causes your period and what causes trans women's periods is the same thing: the endocrine system.
HRT changes the sex of your endocrine system. Feminizing HRT makes it a female endocrine system, giving us a 28-day hormone cycle just like cis women. At the end of that cycle, the hypothalamus floods the body with prostaglandins. Those are what cause all but one of the period symptoms, because they make muscles inflame and contract. They are what make the uterus shed its lining, they are what cause intestinal cramps, they are what cause body aches, they are what cause headaches and migraines. The only period symptom not causes by the release of prostaglandins throughout the body is depression, and that is caused by your endocrine system simply not processing as much estrogen and from simply feeling like shit.
So, the only symptoms trans women don't get every 28 days is menstrual cramps, because yes we do not menstruate since we don't have uteruses. But migraines, depression, body aches, intestinal cramps, and the infamous "period shits" don't exactly add up to us having any better of a time. Except we have to pretend that we're fine and nothing is different because no one believes that we get periods, not even cis women.
"But you can't call it a period then because that refers to MENSTRUATION!" is another one I hear all the time. This is incorrect. You use the word "period" instead of just "menstruation" because it doesn't just refer to menstruation. It refers to a period at the end of the hormone cycle where we experience a host of symptoms. And not all cis women experience all of the symptoms that encompass the period. Not all cis women get migraines, or body aches, or have severe depression. If a cis woman gets a hysterectomy she doesn't menstruate either! In that instance she experiences an identical period to what trans women experience. Yet, I doubt you'd insist that cis women who've had hysterectomies don't have periods.
Oh, another thing that I personally discovered after bottom surgery: vaginal odor changes for trans women during our periods too. I was not expecting that because I always thought it was just from menstruation. But nope, the ph levels of a trans woman's vagina are the same of as a cis woman's vagina, and it changes during our periods just the same.
addition: around 10% of all humans across the board have endometriosis. Meaning that one in ten trans women have endometriosis, making their periods worse.
Since endometriosis is endometrial tissue (uterine lining) existing where it shouldn't, it means those of us who have it bleed.
Just, it's internal bleeding.
Our own introduction to this was an endometrial cyst in our bladder, which was "fun".
We need to stop vilifying low empathy I’m begging yall.
Somewhere out there, theres a little kid who keeps getting in trouble because he doesn’t understand how to play nicely with the other kids and keeps hurting peoples feelings on accident. He doesn’t know why all the adults are so angry at him all the time. He’s not a bad kid, not on purpose. He doesn’t want to be a bad kid. He’s trying so hard and keeps making everything worse.
Somewhere out there, there’s a teenager getting into fandom spaces for the first time and every time she sees a post about her favorite character, who has trouble with emotions, just like her, it’s always something negative. It’s always a post telling others to stop redeeming them, or mocking them for no reason. She’s old enough to understand that she’s different from other people. She’s old enough to know that despite that, she’s still doing her best to be kind. And she’s old enough to know that the real reason everyone hates her favorite character is because they don’t understand low empathy works. She hates herself because she knows if she ever tells anyone how she feels, she’ll be hated too. It’s a good thing she learned how to pretend. Nobody will abandon her if she says the right things, has the same expressions, uses the proper tone.
Somewhere out there, there’s a young adult who can’t understand emotions. They get annoyed when they hear people crying, they don’t understand romance in books and movies, and they still remember how it felt as a child when they watched their whole family fall apart when a relative died, and they didn’t care. They remember how they didn’t LIKE that their grandmother was gone, but they didn’t linger on it either. It didn’t shatter them the way it shattered their mother. And most of all, they remember how their mother looked at them when she figured it out. How she screamed that they were a monster she couldn’t ever love. They think maybe the world would be better if they weren’t a part of it.
But none of those people are inherently evil. There is no such thing. They still care about things. They have comfort foods and books they love and musicians they would love to see live. They have dreams and hopes and aspirations. All of them are so much more than the way they feel things. Please I’m begging you stop demonizing them. It HURTS to see yourself represented like that. If you simply don’t know how to portray us, then ASK. it’s OK to not know things. You don’t need to be ashamed, but you do need to learn.
“but he did [this horrific thing]” i am neither his keeper nor happy with every single decision he makes. Also he is not real

(APPARENTLY CONTROVERSIAL) OPINION ALERT
opened twitter just to see everyone shitting on the comeback. genuinely some atiny’s will never be happy. people complaining about the spanish not fulling making sense in bad and mamacita as if the english isn’t the same way in a lot of kpop songs, but no one ever complains about that. yes, the spanish and portuguese (?) doesn’t really make sense, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad (pun not intended). and to say that ateez are just trying to profit off the latin “trend” as if they haven’t had similar concepts before now.
besides that, the members have made it known countless times they appreciate and enjoy latine culture and artists and they like doing this style. just because kq isn’t good about scheduling shows in latam and mx and sp doesn’t mean that ateez hates all latines. and to say it feels like cultural appropriation??? what the fuck are you talking about rn??
oh and if you’re not latine, i don’t give a single flying fuck about your opinion on bad/mamacita. i can understand some people in the latine community feeling uncomfortable and that’s very valid, but don’t use this as an opportunity to tear down ateez.
even if it doesn’t quite make sense, it’s still fun and it’s nice as a latina to see my people being appreciated from artists that aren’t latine.
it is perfectly okay to criticize line distribution, it is perfectly okay to criticize the kinda shitty spanish and portuguese, but you can do that without being a hater.
you’re not forced to like every ateez comeback, but calling yourself a fan and then having a complaint about every single thing is fucking annoying.
