For my recent work, Avatar Amber Inclusion, I created insect wings for my Second Life avatar, MultiverseTraverser1. They are based off a scientific illustration of prehistoric dustywing insects, which are often found in pieces of amber. 🧚♀️
Deep Time & Cosmic Time 🪨 🌌 Using the terrain of virtual land in Second Life, I juxtaposed the 2006 Hubble Ultra Deep Field with a default rocky terrain texture. I love how it turned out and I look forward to expanding on these sketches.

Revised & updated the prehistoric Coniopterygidae (dustywing) wings for my avatar to be even more scientifically accurate than before. I realized that my first reference scientific illustration for this project was an illustration solely of hind wings, and quickly had to rectify this error. I'm even happier with the new result. For this special artwork I am stepping out of the bounds of my usual subject matter—cosmology/astrophysics—and into a whole new world called paleoentomology, which is a branch of entomology that deals with fossilized insects. I'll save the rest for later and finish by saying that my interest in the concept of 'time immemorial' led me here.
The WIP is finally WIP-ing. I semi-successfully made my avatar some prehistoric dustywing wings for an artwork I am working on.
