serial experiments lain is actually a documentary about what happens when you switch to mac
unedited footage of me trying to delete the Chess app only to learn its baked into the operating system
i cannot emphasize enough that filmmakers are still pulling this bullshit thirty years later

i'm making a "sure i know Excel, A/V systems, humor balancing, and video editing" resume as a practice exercise, which means i have the wikipedia page for "list of obsolete jobs" open. but the issue is a ton of it is stuff i could genuinely see myself learning for the kind of jobs i do. like sure, i can see myself needing to know keypunch operation at some point. telegraph operation seems useful too.
obsessing over my resume again and im curious how many weird details i can put in it before it gets rejected on principle. what would happen if i put "alchemy" on my technical skills list
me too man.

brushbug banging out the tunes
[ID: A looping gif of the brushbuddy from Witch Hat Atelier patting its paws repeatedly, edited to have a PNG of a toy xylophone (the same one from the "Neil banging out the tunes" photo) beside it so it looks like the brushbuddy is playing it. End ID]

I know leaving my college town eventually is crucial for my professional/personal development, but I can't lie and say I won't miss working for a university. You don't get freaks like this anywhere else. If anyone knows someone in the Seattle metro with a $40K spectrometer they exclusively call a "ray gun" please let me know. Absolutely crucial that they practice exactly zero radiation safety protocols with it.
Obviously there's eccentric people out there especially in film. But "tenured" is a really specific subtype I fear not even the most insane stuck-up prestige director can reach. A production intern is not the same as an undergraduate who ends up roped into a research pet project. That's not even getting into the awful and absurd world of university administration. Things will be more insane than university work but they will NEVER hit the same
I'm really glad I got a video/advertising job because you really start to understand academia in a way completely invisible to everyone else. I've filmed board meetings, arts events, research projects, public lectures, and that's not even getting into editing and archiving. Little sample tray of every cog in the university machine. And all I can say is no matter how insane, incompetent, and evil universities are, it is one Million times worse

The War of the Worlds
inspired by the illustrations of Henrique Alvim Corrêa
They’ve been rebuilding the Tower of Babel, but this time they have a team of linguists on site. Every time God smites the builders and invents a dozen new languages, the linguists have a dozen decently sized translations in about a month and work can start up again.
The linguists have been really into it. They say the new phonemes are fascinating. As for God, I assume that at this point he’s just curious to see how far this goes.
To keep us on out toes, God gives the next group of builders an extra place of articulation called the flongus between the pharynx and the glottis, creating an entire new column of the IPA chart with sounds between sounds that are literally physiologically impossible for non-flongled people to replicate.
Improved symbols for the flongal plosives ("gacks"), flongal trill ("hacks"), flongal fricatives ("groans"), and and the flongal lateral approximant ("moans")
Update: The builders have now simply switched to communicating entirely through a universal sign language like they should've done to start with. No sounds need be spoken, flongal or otherwise. The Tower steadily rises. Be seeing you soon, God, you little bitch.
update: the builders are all speaking different sign languages now
