friendly reminder that merlin didnt owe morgana or arthur his secret. it may very well have avoided a lot of the mess and tragedy if he had just been honest with them, but he still didnt owe either of them his secret. morgana may have had magic too, but she was still uther’s ward. if they had ever gotten caught, merlin is the one who would have suffered for it. morgana at least had the protection of being uther’s ward to fall back on while merlin was simply a disposable servant. morgana couldve still easily betrayed merlin for morgause even if he had done his best to be truthful with her. its unfair to blame merlin for not being honest with her.

then theres arthur, who despite how he likes to think and acts like he isnt as bad as uther, still upholds his father’s oppressive regime. arthur may have been better than his father, but that really isnt saying much when his father was a genocidal tyrant. sorcerers - and even druids - are still shunned and hunted under arthur’s rule. in a perfect world, merlin would have been honest with them and everything would have worked itself out. but that never could have happened in the world they existed in.
