"Good Morning, Rose"
My short story for the wlw anthology GLIMM*R!
Turns out it's Yuri Day, so please enjoy my yuri comic about dreams and first dates!
I was sat in bed with a friend watching a documentary today and I suddenly felt my younger deeply lonely self look at me with awe
It turns out you can dream and dream and dream for years that it gets better and then you blink and look around and notice you’re having a good day
playing with your cards face up
POV u are a tasty little cheese
If you close your eyes right before the rat hits, your brain will think that you have died. some people find calmness in this.
neil banging out the you
This is not a particularly original thought (I've probably made this exact post before myself) but one of the bleaker vast cultural gulfs out there is and likely shall remain the one between 'material children can understand and engage with' and 'material guardians and gatekeepers are comfortable thinking about their children engaging with'.
The beautiful but brief period where video stores just threw every animated movie in the same section and vast numbers of parents just assumed all cartoons were for kids was a little golden age in this regard. We need to come up with a new way to trick middle class helicopter parents into letting their 7-year-olds watch Watership Down again.
Main fandom tags are for everyone
If you don't care for another user's vibe or you really dislike a certain #shiptag, it is your responsibility to block the user and the tag.
You do not go into strangers' inboxes and bully, harass, or intimidate them about how they shouldn't be using the main fandom tag. That's toddler behavior. All of us, no matter what we ship, have a right to tag our posts and organize our blogs.
You are responsible for everything you see on Tumblr.
"Butbutbutbut this user doesn't tag their po—"
Block the user.
"This user ships something disgus—"
Block the user. And block the ship tag to remove the temptation to interact with it. Still interacting with things that upset you? Maybe it's time to talk to a parent or guardian about limiting your Internet access until you're mature enough to participate in online communities.
"Butbutbut I have to look at—"
No you don't. You literally don't. You are not a captive. Your eyelids are not held open. Tumblr gives you all the tools you need to prevent this. Use them.
"But I'm tired of crossovers showing up in my—"
Bock the crossover tags and filter for the offending fandom.
"But this person NEEDS to be run out of my fandom!"
Go wrap your anus around a saguaro cactus and sit there until you reach enlightenment.
unaligned (2016)
I can’t overshare because that would be very humiliating but everyone else should overshare because I like to know everything
I live a very balanced life of noticing things nobody else does and not noticing the things that literally everybody notices
If Your Scene Feels Lifeless, Someone Is Being Too Polite
Stories stall when everyone behaves. Real tension appears when someone:
• asks the wrong question • says something they shouldn’t • notices something uncomfortable • refuses to drop the topic • misunderstands something important • interrupts at the worst moment
Conflict doesn’t always look like shouting.
Couple more options for tension:
They want something REALLY REALLY REALLY bad, but for some reason they can't ask for it -- or can't have it even if they did ask.
They don't notice something that the audience HAS noticed (like in a horror movie when the monster is sneaking up behind the protagonist, or if someone drinks a glass of unboiled water during a cholera outbreak because they don't know about germ theory)
Takes a risk (or otherwise does something they "shouldn't" do) which the audience has to sit through for a prolongued period of time (e.g. slips away from the party to go into the host's private office and rifle through their papers before the guards catch them)
Loses when they thought they were going to win
You’re just not ready. At no point in this video when he says the next thing are you ready.
“People should pass a test before being allowed to have kids.” “Isn’t it scary how white people have this inborn capacity for evil?” “I’ll never pass because males and females have different skull shapes.” “Autistic people have a stronger sense of justice than anyone else.” “I don’t want AMABs in my space because they’re dangerous.” “You shouldn’t have access to hormones if you dress like THAT.” “Anyone who does something that awful isn’t human.” “Some people really shouldn’t be allowed to vote.”
This is eugenics. This is phrenology. THIS IS NAZI SHIT, YOU ARE A LEFTIST BUYING INTO NAZI SHIT. YOU ARE NOT IMMUNE TO NAZI SHIT.
