So now I know that I have selective mutism. What do I do? Your blog is helpful in diagnosing this disorder but I can't seem to find anything about how to treat it or how to find help. I want to get rid of it.
Yeah, unfortunately I can’t help much in that respect - I still suffer from it myself. You could try seeing a professional about it or depending on where you live there might be an organization that specializes in SM that can help you from here. There’s a list of SM organizations/charities here and I know that iSpeak offer online or face-to-face support and counselling. I know of people taking Prozac to help with anxiety and there’s also a technique called ‘sliding in’* that is often used but I am unable to say if either of these work as I have never tried them myself.
*Sliding in is when the sufferer is placed in a room with someone they feel comfortable talking to such as a close family member and they have a conversation with this person while other people are slowly brought into the room and begin to join the conversation.
Send me a message on here and I can try to help!
Y’ALL. I DID THREE VERBAL DEBATES INFRONT OF ONE CLASS AND GAVE A PRESENTATION IN ANOTHER AND I DIDN’T EVEN HAVE TOO TALK OR GO UP IF I DIDN’T WANT TOO BECAUSE OF MY IEP. BUT I DID IT ANYWAY AND I’M SO HAPPY ABOUT IT.
its selective mutism awareness month, here are some cool facts about people with sm:
our souls are forged in the cosmos— causing us to see all in the universe. this overwhelming sensation of feeling every star’s birth & death causes our muteness.
the only time we are visible to the naked human...
New perspective...I love this 😊
Someday, you’ll hear her speak and you’ll regret the day you walked away. What you left behind is stronger than you thought.

You can help me out by doing simple 'tasks' such as downloading a free app, etc. Thanks :) And if you decide to make your own account, I'll help you out too!

hey I have selective mutism and I'm glad that I'm not the only one because I feel like no body understands :(
It's always good to know you're not alone, isn't it? Message me anytime! :)
The idea of overcoming is always fascinating to me. It's fascinating because few of us realize how much energy we have expended just to be here today. I don't think we give ourselves enough credit for the overcoming.

I met a girl today who motivated me to be more dedicated to my school work, not with her words, but through her frustration. She knows she's talented, but she's being held back for reasons that are out of her control. I just want her, like all of you, to know that she will go places as long as she never gives up.
