I've been finding a lot of job postings that ask me for a photo lately, which is uncool of them.

So I made an image which lets me bypass their demand. I don't care if I get that particular job, I just want to shame the HR goons who thought the photo requirement was a good idea.

Note: this only applies in the USA.

To be clear theres a difference between “this looks really really bad in an EEOC suit” and “it’s against the law”. I KNOW that that doesn’t make sense to a lot of you. But it’s only illegal for an employer to ask for a photo if theyre discriminating based on certain class statuses. It’s not illegal if theyre not discriminating on those. However, asking for a photo makes it’s more likely that you’ll be deemed to be discriminating if someone sues you and if it just so happens you’ve never hired X people despite there being X* applicants.

The EEOC’s “should not” here mean “not a great idea” not “it’s prohibited by law”. In other words, uploading this does absolutely nothing. Most employers understand that they are taking a risk (and what you should be asking yourself is why they now think that risk is safe not how to bypass the request or shame the shameless).

*X here means “specific race, color, sex, religion, or national origin”

you’re all “John didn’t want Sam to go to college because John is controlling”, but you realize that Sam’s friend at college is literally possessed by a demon and his girlfriend is killed by demons, and when Sam goes off to college, he is literally completely vulnerable to all and sundry demons who want to get to him, and do, through Jessica, which drives him back into hunting, and Sam was literally exactly where Azazel wanted him, vengeance-fuelled and on the front lines, because John was in fact right about Sam being vulnerable at college and no one has ever acknowledged this.

Right, like lmao, if the implication of OP's paragraph is that John didn't want Sam to be more vulnerable to danger then saying "fuck you forever then" wasn't going to accomplish his goal of Sam-safety c'mon. Like I'm all "John is controlling" because those actions are the actions of a controlling person, not a merely worried one. Having a judgment is one thing. Punishing your loved ones for using their own instead of yours is controlling!

Life note: Someone having something bad happened to them in a situation is not a post facto justification for someone else being a right asshole about it.

Also having to kill Jessica was because Sam wasn't where Azazel wanted him! It was directly against Azazel's plan!! It was a forced readjustment from Sam's decision to get the fuck out! Azazel wanted Sam hunting! Isolated! With only the perspective of his "favored" brother and his vengeance-obsessed father, so that Sam would feel hard done by. No one has acknowledge your understanding of Azazel's desires because it's not correct. And Sam has canonically been surrounded by demons...while hunting with his father and which his father never even clocked, partly because he did not pay enough attention to anything his children were doing.

Third, John never made the argument about vulnerability, and it's weird to put it into him mouth to exonerate him. The argument he made was that Sam was abandoning them. The argument John made was that going to college was a betrayal of their values. Defend from the actual position stated please!

To be clear, in this, my country's black history month, racial disparities in health outcomes between Black and white people continue even after socioeconomic disparity has been controlled for and don't appear in the same type of significance between Hispanic people and white people where there is socioeconomic disparity. It is not exactly the same as class in America and I really question any journalist who thinks so. Angela Saini could have made the point that while diseases and illnesses may not be racialized, the legacy of racial science means that many parts of the medical field, including diagnosis, treatment and prevention, absolutely are, which affects the views of those diseases and illnesses as racial. I hope this is more clear in her book.

This doesn’t really engage with the conversation around this particular complaint. Praise is necessary for overcoming small struggles. It does not, however, much mitigate the burden of routine tasks, which is what household maintenance requires for most people. This conversation is often partially about how anyone doing most of the tasks also deserves praise but it’s mostly about the unequal burden of household tasks that the lesser burdened person underscores by expecting praise. The expectation exposes a certain type of inequality; one person is the employer, the other merely employed, with praise as exchange for the labor, with a person who would be wholly uninvested without such payment. That’s not the same thing as having a community of support (and frankly it usually is an attempt to deny the support and community necessary for household tasks by making it exchange-based) and we don’t need to pretend it is.
