Arryn: I struggle with finding value in myself…I can’t comprehend how people like me, how I have fans and followers. It just doesn’t make sense to me because I don’t feel like I’m worthy enough or that I’m doing anything to justify having any of this stuff […]
Troy Baker: Who says it has to be justified? According to whom? Who do you have to justify that to?
[…]
Arryn: Yeah…I mean I guess there’s a lot of stuff that I’m clearly working on but in my last relationship I was called pathetic a lot and I….it’s a whole thing.
This exchange is from a Rooster Teeth streaming conversation Arryn did in early June. It comes up an hour into the conversation, she doesn’t instigate it, she’s nervous as she’s saying it, she starts to tear up. She didn’t plan to say it. It happened to come out in that moment. The video only has a little over 50,000. It’s not for attention.
I just….I am shaking I am so upset. The language she is using to talk about herself is exactly, exactly the language someone who is a survivor of emotional violence and abuse uses. This pervasive and lingering belief of unworthiness, that you have to prove why you’re worthy of anything good, of love, because you were with someone who consistently and subtly nailed it into you that this was the truth.

Where were you when my brother blew my helicopter out of the sky? When my mother dragged my broken body to a laboratory and experimented on me instead of fixing me? Where were you when this world was ripped apart by the seams? Where were you?

I know there’s a lot of dudes that hate their arrogance. You know what? SUCK IT. As a woman, it is so, SO GOOD to see this.
Never apologize for this!!
Also they’re right? Captain Marvel is insanely powerful, and Valkyrie is literally a god???
This isn’t even arrogance, this is them refusing to make themselves small in order to make other people better.
The more I see of her work, the more it absolutely baffles the hell out of me these people have Melissa Benoist at their fingertips and this is what they’re choosing to do with her.
Best actor in the Arrowverse. Actually, best actor on the entire CW network. Imagine having someone as your show’s lead who will probably go on to win an Oscar some day and you only go deep into their character’s emotions every ten episodes while the rest of the time they’re a prop on their own show for other characters, pointless arcs and awkward, forced relationships to the point where someone who is versatile and talented as hell can’t even make it believable. I mean, my goodness.
For that matter imagine having Chyler Leigh, who should’ve been nominated for at least two Emmys for her previous show, and you have her hang around in the background, bark orders and occasionally shoot a gun.
For that matter imagine having Katie McGrath with her ridiculous face and screen presence and you only give her a few lines an episode and constantly separate her from the people she has the most chemistry with.
Imagine.
