celestia is such a funny character like she's constantly manipulating twilight and friends to do shit instead of just asking and you could arguably frame that as being bc she's a "god" and pushing fate to her design or whatever, except that she engages with the group like a normal and relatable person, which makes it more like villainous machinations, except 90% of this manipulation goes towards things like "I don't want my party to be boring shit again. put my little country girl blorbos in there with zero prep so they fuck it up bad"

Celestia instantly makes more sense as a character when you ignore the princess stuff and remember that she's a 1000+ years old wizard. Of course she does manipulative trickster stuff to teach moral lessons and/or cause chaos to amuse herself, that's classic wizard behavior. Of course sometimes she's actually socially awkward and bad at personal relationships and has bad ideas that she thought were good that result in her eating shit embarrassing style, that's classic wizard behavior. Of course she lets the aristocrats and nobles run around being assholes she's still running on wizard advisor programming, she's basically trying to merlin the entire upper class of equestria instead of just a king and some knights. "Yeah uuhhh we'll release the incarnation of chaos himself from his ancient prison because we think this shy girl can be friends with him", terrible plan if you're thinking like a ruler, amazing plan if you're thinking like a wizard. Just look at Canterlot 'Castle' for five seconds and ask yourself if that's in any way a castle. No. Wizard tower, yes. Wizard.

Grade 1 kid at the school where I work came up to me yesterday, asked, "Hey, do you know what COVID-19 is?" I said yes, and he said, "It's a virus!" I said yes, I know. He explained, "It's this thing that happened years ago, but it was like, if I had COVID-19, and then I touch you, now you have COVID-19! Or even, if I have COVID-19, and I touch a table, and then you touch that same table, now you have COVID-19! And people got really sick. They shut down the schools for a whole year! I don't know when the next one of those will be, but imagine the school shutting down for a year!"

My grandma just called and, among other things, said “You have hips. That’s good! Men like hips!” and then she interrupted herself to say “Women like hips. People of your preferred gender like hips. I can never remember”  And I was like “Thanks grandma! My preferred gender is none of them, no thanks.” and she was like “Okay, no one will comment on your hips!” very self satisfied, like “aha, I have figured it out” I think like half her grandkids are some variety of not-straight and she can’t always remember which is which but she is the epitome of like “she’s a little confused, but she’s got the spirit!”

Pride 2026 with Queer Liberation Library!

Hello! This is my annual obligatory "donate to the Queer Liberation (ebook) Library if you can! And join if you want!!" signal boost.

The QLL is a fully-virtual library with no information required other than an e-mail address to join. You can become a member from anywhere in the world. (Technically their member policy is that you need a US mailing address, so this is off-label advice, but all they ask is for you to confirm that you have one, you are never required to provide it.)

The QLL is an incredible resource for queer theory, has a staggering collection of queer romance, and is basically a repository for just about every kind of queer text that exists. ❤️ I am SO grateful for their existence and proud to be a member.

Almost all of the asexual theory books I've read (both the ones I've loved AND the ones I've complained about at length offline) were accessed through the QLL and you can join from anywhere, no fees, just download the Libby app and start enjoying queer ebooks!

The link above is to my "team" for their annual Pride month fundraiser, and I am hoping to raise $300 to add another copy of I Am Ace (or a similar highly-requested ace-related text — my priority is to reduce wait times so people can have access to information faster, and that one was about 57 weeks when I first got in line).
