IMAO KEINEN Pomegranate and Lovebirds (from the series Birds and Flowers of the Four Seasons) [1882]
How gorgeous is this painting by Imao Keinen? It really gets us in the mood for spring!
ranunculus
How gorge is this bouquet made with pomegranates and ranunculus? Swoon!
We almost thought twice about posting two pomegranate pie pics today, but it’s National Pi(e) Day after all. Why not?
Happy National Pi(e) Day! We’ll be toasting with a pomegranate pie. How about you?
Celebrate Storm Stella With One Final Winter Feast
Is anyone else bracing for tomorrow’s big snow storm? Rather than being scared of the wicked weather ahead, we encourage you to take that time to hunker down and cook a hearty meal for your family, like this lovely roasted lamb served alongside a persimmon salad with pomegranate dressing.
The weather may be cold, but just think about how a few months from now, you’ll be wishing you could cook indoors!

Happy Hour: Pomegranate Sour
If you’re anything like us, you’re SO ready for the weekend. We couldn’t possibly think of a better way to toast it than with this pomegranate sour recipe from Mom on the Side.
Here’s how she makes hers:

Slow Cooked Lamb and Blood Orange Pomegranates
We just adore Middle Eastern inspired food. It’s soon trend these days, and we keep seeing more and more great recipes utilizing its core flavors.
This one uses pomegranates to punch up one of our favorite Middle Eastern meats, lamb. It’s such a wonderful alternative to beef, and it tastes incredible with the tart sweetness of pomegranates.
Here’s how it’s done:

Pomegranate Arils Found in Ancient Tomb
We’ve posted quite a bit about how pomegranates have influenced art, history, and culture throughout the ages. The fact that archeologists found pomegranate arils in an ancient tomb is a pretty fascinating development though.
One hundred seeds thought to be 2,000 years old have been found in a brick tomb in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of northern China.

Currently obsessing over these fig and pomegranate tartlettes. Don’t mind us.
Finished another piece! A pretty pink pomegranate! 16x16 oil pastel.
How stunning is this pomegranate pastel? It’s so lifelike. The shading and colors are incredible!
Anyone else ready for a pomegranates smoothie break?
What a pretty POM! It almost looks too good to eat...almost.
Recipe: Palestinian Pomegranate, Lentil and Aubergine Stew
We love this story of a traditional pomegranate stew that’s featured in the Guardian. The author talks about the significance of this storied fruit in their culture and cuisine.
Pomegranates are integral to Palestinian eating, and are regarded across the Middle East as a symbol of abundance and prosperity. Each pomegranate fruit is said to have an extra seed that comes directly from paradise, so it is a cherished fruit. Street hawkers squeeze fresh juice from them; a fluorescent crimson cupful to sip on the fly.
Rummaniyeh (rumman means pomegranate) uses the fruit’s molasses as well as its seeds, which bodes well for a tangy stew with lentils and aubergine.

rye pancakes
Love the idea of rye pancakes. We are totally digging wheat flour alternatives right now.
