I saw The War of the Rohirrim today and I really enjoyed it, it was so nostalgic to see this world on a big screen again and it truly felt like coming home
Some of the criticism going around about this movie baffles me.
"It doesn't follow the lore!" The lore... the lore that is an Itty bitty portion of the appendices that lore? In which maybe four people even have NAMES? Yes actually it does. It adds to it certainly but it doesn't actually remove anything. If you don't think there should be anymore Lotr content because Tolkien has passed, sure fine that's a fair stance. However if you want more content SOME creative liscnse is going to be taken.
"Hera is a mary sue!" The internet doesn't even know what this means anymore. It just gets flung at any female character that does anything. She's capable and she's kind and for some reason people seem to hate that.
"The animation is bad!" No it isn't. It suits the story and the world it's in. An older anime style gives this far more charm than hyper-realistic animation ever could.
"It should have been live action" Why? No really why? What would that have added? It wouldn't have been anywhere close to original trilogy films, nothing ever will be. Those movies were literally lightening in a bottle. What does this story lose by being animated that it would gain in live action?
Lord of the rings fans are reaching star wars levels of sucking the joy out of the very thing they claim to love. If you don't want to see the movie, don't see the movie. If you DO want to see the movie, have fun! It has some really great moments!

Just came back from the movie theatre.
Loved the War of the Rohirrim!
It pays homage to Tolkien's writing and his love for chansons de geste and anglo-saxon mythology and "Sagen".
(A "Sage" (I couldn't find an english expression for this German word) is a traditional folk narrative, involving legendary or historical events, that is passed down orally through generations. It typically features heroes, supernatural elements, and moral lessons. So it is serving both to entertain and educate.)
I actually don't understand most of the criticism.
Do the critics even know their Tolkien?
Maybe the movie needs more time. The War of the Rohirrim may not meet the current expectations of cinema-goers, who are looking for something ultra-complex, loud, and brutal (which is ok - if that's what you want it's just not my piece of cake at the moment).
But I think it will become a fan favourite classic.
Oh - Bonus points: the movie also shows how to treat female characters in movies. The tragic heroine (who hadn't had a name or her own story before) isn't killed off. She gets to live her life in freedom.
