Funny how people assume that classical music snobs would be like “Oh, you’ve never listened through all the works of Rachmaninoff??? Not even Stravinsky or (insert random obscure composer here)??? YOU PLEBEIAN!” when in reality, they’re actually just huge Mozart/Bach fans who typically refuse to listen to any other composers and will not shut up about how great Bach and Mozart are

If your friends, hypothetically, came up with a scheme to troll you on tumblr, hypothetically, by all pretending to be a very diverse group of characters who met at an anger management camp, and hypothetically elaborately planned how to create a month's worth of profile content so they could approach you one by one until a grand reveal, but then hypothetically realized after only an hour of planning that this was a joke you'd rather be in on than be the focus of, how would you hypothetically feel?

Just asking.

And it's maybe hypothetically the reason D&D/rp-ing ever came up in the first place. Possibly.

Late night Gatsby realization: The fact that the industrial areas are all gray and colorless, while the areas where rich people live and all that are super colorful, is yet another depiction of the hollowness/decay of the American Dream. The people who actually work hard, part of the American dream, are gray and lifeless with no money to show. The people who don’t actually work that hard for their money, like Tom and Gatsby, end up with the colorful exterior.

HOWEVER!

The colorful, rich areas lack true love. We know this with Gatsby and Tom and Daisy, and even to a lesser extend Jordan and Nick. Sure, Gatsby worked his way into his millions, but there’s no soul to it. Tom had no soul to begin with, just money.

So the options are either literal decay, or emotional decay, but you can’t have love. What a novel.

Personal theory about arguments

So I think everybody has witnessed or participated in an argument between Europeans and Americans over something like imperial vs metric, DD/MM/YYYY vs MM/DD/YYYY, etc.

In these arguments, I concede, the Europeans are correct from a logical standpoint. America uses stupid measurement systems for most things.

However, we still find that Americans, even highly intelligent ones who may agree with the Europeans, will fiercely defend the imperial system and get very upset. Why is that?

Well, here’s my theory: We get mad in arguments like this because we’re getting called stupid for something we can’t control, even if we don’t realize that that’s why we’re mad.

So, the moral of this story: When it comes to debates like this online, and any argument, never assume somebody is stupid for circumstances out of their control. It is a sure fire way to lead yourself into a petty argument with an enraged human

No but seriously, everybody I knew in 7th grade knew Tchaik for the cannons. I vividly remember making jokes about him being a crazy Russian.

I have achieved emotional transcendence

Here were the ingredients:

1. A pitch-black bedroom

2. Decent wireless earbuds

3. Sibelius, Symphony No. 7

4. A comfortable bed

Istg I’ve never felt my imagination run like that, nor felt more relaxed in my life. I genuinely cannot recommend listening to good orchestral music in a room with minimal distractions and no visuals. It forced you to make your own visuals in your mind, and they are mystical.

10/10, highly recommend, will do again.

While watching the finale episodes I couldn’t shake the feeling I recognized the main theme of “When I Think About the Future” from somewhere else. So a little rewatch, and this part of Sera’s was the key to unlocking the comparison.

So THAT’S where I recognized it from

Song in second part is a piano rendition of “Cruel Angel’s Thesis” from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Interesting that these sound so similar.

Saw someone else mention this on a different platform, but when Vox died, all his followers died too.

They were standing in water, as Vox was ‘baptising’ them into a ‘new era of entertainment’, as he called it.

We can see here the water splashing around his leg.

And when the tv fell on him and electrocuted him, it went through the water and killed everyone else too.

I honestly missed this detail. And it was kind of stupid of Vox/Vincent to hang tvs and wires above water. That was literally a disaster waiting to happen.

How I think composers would react to you shaking ass to their music:

J S Bach: unpopular opinion but for someone who sat on an organ for funsies, i think he would very much appreciate people shaking ass to his (secular) music as long as you Get It. and Get what the context is. you have to first prove you are knowledgeable in music for him to appreciate your appreciation

Mozart: the ONLY CORRECT WAY to enjoy mozart is by shaking ass. if you don't, he'll be personally offended and he'll start acting like a catboy in depression

Beethoven: Doesn't really give much of a damn if you shake ass or not. Probably would be offended if you shake ass to something serious or sad.

Paganini: Would join in to boogie with you actually. whip out a hips dont lie even

Liszt: would take ass shaking as a challenge and try to prove he's the superior ass shaker

Tchaikovsky: There's a high chance he might get a little freaked out and run away if you shake ass to his music pls don't scare him

Stravinsky: it's a challenge. not just to shake ass, but to shake ass CORRECTLY because he might get pissed off if you don't do it correctly

Shostakovich: It's INEVITABLE there's gonna be moments of rhythm in shosty's stuff that you'd wanna do a lil headbang (which he is alright with) but anything more than that and he's going to actually ask you to get help with genuine concern

I read about Rachmaninoff today. He had an inspiring life. At least for me.

He came from an aristocratic family that broke apart due to poverty, which affected him so much that he almost got kicked out of the conservatory and almost lost his scholarship. When he was around 12, Tchaikovsky listened to him play and praised and encouraged him a lot.

He wrote his first symphony at 22 and it literally flopped after its first performance, mostly due to the conductor being drunk (which honestly gave me chills when I listened to it, how can they not like it ffs), which led him into a severe depression for 3 years, which led him to undertake hypnotherapy and hypnosis, right after which he wrote his piano concerto no. 2 (one of his best works tbh) and dedicated it to his psychiatrist. He traveled to europe and the US for concerts. He saw two world wars. During the most chaotic times in russia in 1910s and he was indoors with his family for safety reasons and was desperate, he amazingly got concert offers from sweden and denmark out of nowhere, for which he and his family left the country to never return again, and then they moved to the US when he was 45. Forty five. Imagine how difficult it must’ve been.

In his last years, he was diagnosed with melanoma and couldnt play anymore because of the pain and discomfort. He died 4 days before his 70th bday.

Oh and he had ginormous hands, he could open a 12th or 13th (an octave and a half), which made his piano pieces a challenge for the performers—almost all of his piano works are at a medium-to-difficult and difficult level.

I mean, look at this. It’s wild.

Anyway. I just like Rachmaninoff a lot.
