As some of you may know from my previous post and/or social media, my family lost our home to a fire. Not only is my father in the hospital, but we lost the majority of our pets. The woman that saved my father’s life has set up a go fund me to cover the expenses of rebuilding our life and giving our animals, including 3 cats and a parrot, a proper resting place. Please share if you can.
happy halloween! here is a ghost duet
Saturday morning, on the 26th of October, a Nazi walked into a Pittsburgh synagogue, shouting “All Jews must die!” and opened fire. He killed eleven Jewish people, including grandparents, husbands, wives, and a doctor remembered for his compassionate care of his patients during the AIDs crisis. Several of them were there celebrating a baby-welcoming ceremony for a gay couple’s newly adopted twins.
This was the deadliest antisemitic attack in all 364 years of American Jewish history. Jews all over the world are shaken, upset, and scared. We know that this could have been any of us, but beyond that, this attack struck at the heart of our people. We were attacked in a place of safety and sanctity. We were reminded that as Jews, we are not safe in America. And we lost eleven Jewish souls.
Some of us are grieving, some of us are angry, some of us are devastated, some of us are numb, some of us are crying, some of us are terrified, some of us are anxious, and some of us can barely walk up the stairs because this doesn’t make any sense and yet it makes so much sense because we all, on some level, imagined this was coming. Our history has taught us that our safety is never guaranteed, and over the past two years we have watched the sickening rise of Nazism and antisemitism all over the world, including in America, where, despite our history, many of us had been lulled into believing it could never happen here.
We lost a third of the world’s Jewish population within living memory. So many Jewish families, in every country, fled antisemitic violence within the past few generations. The tragedy we just experienced is visceral, it’s terrifying, it’s devastating.
So please, check in on your Jewish friends and ask how they are doing. Please, take a moment to understand and absorb this tragedy. Please, understand how this is not just yet another mass shooting (that while theoretically tragic, you don’t really have the space for another one, what with compassion fatigue), but rather an attack that pierced the heart of a group of people already carrying centuries of pain and trauma. Please, make space for this one. Please, when you talk about this, don’t use generalized language about hate and about how no one should be killed for their religion. Please speak the words: Jewish. Antisemitic. Say this was an antisemitic attack, on Jewish people. And please, keep us in your thoughts today.
Folks who aren’t Jewish, you can reblog this. In fact I’d be grateful if you did.
Jon… I’m delicious…

Happy Turkey Day… Jon…
The best video ever posted on the internet is the scene from american psycho where they’re comparing business cards but someone edited it so they’re comparing like ridiculous forum signatures

What are your feelings on sting ray touch tanks? I went to Vancouver Aquarium and they have recently installed a massive sting ray touch pool and the rays cruise around and choose if they want to come close enough to the people to touch. I thought it was fantastic, but I always kind of worry about the rays having their barbs trimmed for these type of things, does that harm them?
So I have answered a similar question a few times before, so I’m going to be re-using portions of what I’ve written before! Many aquariums allow you to pet stingrays, including the aquarium I work for. It is typically a very controlled and safe interaction for all parties involved. Aquarium staff are almost always at touch tanks to supervise the experience to keep the animals safe. Rays are naturally very curious animals and can become very tame when they interact with people frequently. Touch tanks play a very important role in education in facilities like aquariums.
Regarding the barb trimming; the barb doesn’t have nerves in it, so clipping it down is truly a painless procedure. And because the barb will regrow trimming does no permanent damage. I often equate it to trimming a fingernail! When the barbs are trimmed typically the animal is netted and the tail is held still while the barb is clipped. Its typically a fairly quick process, and always done with minimal stress to the animal.
Sound pretty humane, i just dont hope the Stingrays see it the same as this scene in “Finding Dory” portrays it ;)
They don’t because a proper tank is big enough so the stingrays that don’t want to be touched don’t get touched. I work at one of these exhibits and the whole thing is that the rays touch you not the other way around. If they don’t want to be touched that day they’ll just stay in the middle out of reach from any hands.
Thats how it should be and no animals get harmed^^
^one of the major reasons Finding Dory really rubbed me the wrong way.
At the facility I used to work at, there was a clear line that guests could not cross their hands over to touch something and staff were always present to monitor safety since we did both inverts and sharks
Also i think its not possible to lift animals out of the pool right?
this🙌🏽
People don’t understand this when I explain it to them.
zeekayart, with the power of phonetic pronunciation of letters, and general art snobbery!

I can create flesh constructs. My handle can literally be interpreted as “flesh workshop”. I can also probably grow meat in a lab.
