It’s one thing to appreciate your favorite show, but it’s a whole other thing to make fan art from the show yourself! Of course, we here at SKKAW.BLOG just can’t help going the extra mile to quench our fan-based-thirsts. Locke and Key was a particularly interesting show for me as I liked the premise of using keys to open doors to other places or gateways to other things in themselves. If you haven’t seen the show yet we highly recommend go watch it on Netflix. Also, visit our Locke and Key review here and let us know what you think of the show yourself.

The show revolves a lot around using keys. As Justin goes into detail in his Locke and Key posts here and here, the keys are pretty important to the plot and storyline of the show and comics. So being a fan of the show myself, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on some keys! Of course, I could go purchase some keys myself from Skeleton Crew Studio, eBay, or Etsy, but where’s the fun in that? Why not just make our own! Having recently got into the 3D Printing, I was all up for the challenge to make authentic-looking keys from the show and comics.

Now I won’t go into too many details regarding 3D Printing itself. I’ll reserve that for another post coming soon. For now, I’ll outline the major steps I took to make our own Locke and Key keys below. But if you do have questions do feel free to leave us some comments or contact us directly here.

The first thing I did was search the interwebs was for 3D printer designs or files called STL files. That file type are the designs that 3D printer software uses as a base to build the 3D print model. Again, I’ll go into more detail regarding the intricacies of 3D Printing in another post but for now, suffice it to say you need to find a 3D model to get you started.

Luckily, someone already made some 3D Printer STL files of some of our favorite keys. A Google Search of “Locke and Key 3D Print Design,” was enough for us to kind some epic designs to start with.  We’ll list all the links to the designs we had at the end of this post.

I wanted to start with something simple so I went with the Anywhere Key first. It’s pretty straightforward since it’s made of a single piece and the design isn’t too complicated. This printed in about 20 minutes and came out great. I did make one adjustment, I shrunk the size to 80% to increase the build speed. I’m glad I did too because it came out great! The material, if you’re wondering is PLA (Polylactic acid)– a recyclable plastic.

But it’s not without its own challenges though. For example, my first print of the Anywhere key didn’t quite go so well, see below.

I later found out my 3D printer settings were a bit off (the 3D Printer bed wasn’t hot enough) but I worked it out and everything else printed smoothly.

Once I made one key, I got the itch and had to make more! I then proceeded to make the Shadow Key. This key was a bit trickier to make as it required some Lego-like put-me-together skills. Basically, it came in several parts which I printed separately, painted, and then glued together. See below for a photo-collage of  my build:

After the Shadow Key, I was almost at my fill of printing keys. It looks straight forward but it does require some time, skill, and effort to make them. The trickiest part of the Shadow Key was painting and piecing together all the parts! But it was fun to make for sure and I really enjoyed building this one the most.

After making the Shadow Key, I wanted to get at least a couple more keys to fill up our Locke and Key collection.  I chose some keys which didn’t require more work than printing and painting.  I settled for the Omega Key, Ghost Key, and Head Key. See below post-printing of each of the mentioned keys.

After printing each key,  I hand-painted each key. If you asked me which part of this build was most challenging it would be the painting. First off, colors aren’t my strongest suit. I’m partially colorblind (only to some particular shades of green and red), but thankfully the colors were a bit straight forward. The colors I used for the keys included black, white, gold, and aluminum. I used gold for the Anywhere Key and a mix of gold and aluminum for the Head Key. Finally, I used black and white were for the Ghost and Shadow Keys. The Omega Key was easiest since it is pure black. I also used acrylic paint, which works great on PLA. And there you have it! Our own set of Locke and Key keys. We feel so powerful! I guess we’re the keepers of these keys now . . .  I just hope we don’t run any trouble similar to the Locke family . . .

4. SHAZAM! Review, Exclusive Costume Photos, Cast Photos, and Zachary Levi Panel look back

Skkawliens! Have you ever wanted to visit a galaxy far far away? Well, look no further because now you can! If you’re not familiar, Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is one of the newest attractions from Walt Disney Parks. I was lucky enough to visit the location in Walt Disney World which is closer to the U.S. East Coast. Essentially Galaxy’s Edge in both Disneyland and Disney World are the same, one is a copy of the other, so you don’t have to worry about missing anything. If you’re planning to go and would rather wait to see what the park has in store yourself, you may want to skip this post as we do share a lot of detailed photos and descriptions from the park and its attractions.

**WARNING GALAXY’S EDGE SPOILERS AHEAD**

With that said, onward to a galaxy far far away…

Entering Batuu, the planet which Galaxy’s Edge is located on in the Star Wars universe is just like stepping into a Star Wars fan’s dream. You enter through a carved out tunnel from what looks like a solid piece of rock and when you emerge it feels like you step out into another world.

Now, one of the first things you encounter at this side of Batuu is a couple of docked ships that look like they’re just about ready to take off. The staff, also called Cast Members, in this park are very serious about their roles.  If you’re lucky you may get a chance encounter with Chewie and Rey like we did. Since they’re basically visiting Batuu for their own reasons, same as you are, they’re a bit busy doing their own things. For example, we caught Rey and Chewie working on a docked X-Wing which seemed to require some mechanical work. They were kind enough to chat with us, mind you in character, so to get the full effect you need to respond appropriately (e.g., striking a conversation about the First Order Stormtroopers lurking about, etc). Fun stuff!

It was pretty cool to see a full-sized X-Wing! Personally, we think it would have been nice if it had wings that opened up and the cockpit allowed for people to sit inside (e.g. to take photos), but that may be a logistical challenge to setup.

The biggest attraction on this side of the park, as of this writing, is the Rise of the Resistance ride.  Unfortunately at the time of writing, the ride was not open yet. But check out the trailer below.

According to Scott Trowbridge (Portfolio Creative Executive for Walt Disney Imagineering) via a recent post from StarWars.com, Rise of the Resistance is looking like one of “the most ambitious attractions we’ve ever done at Disney.” From that article, it’s sounding to be a pretty epic ride. Rise of the Resistance is now open at Disney Parks. If you’ve experienced this ride, do leave us some comments and let us know how it went!

Next, we found ourselves walking by an inter-galactic marketplace. If it could be found within this part of the galaxy, it was probably sold here.  Be it huggable Banthas from the Creature Shop, wooden X-wing fighters from Toydarian Toymaker or a nice Jedi robe from Black Spire Outfitters. You name it, they had it! Some notable favorites: Star Wars plushies.  See the slideshow below.

I was told by one of the shop managers that most, if not all, of the merchandise, is exclusive only to Galaxy’s Edge and is not available off-world (e.g., in another park or even in the Disney shop online). With the in mind, watch your credits folks.  You could find yourself walking away with considerably less in your galactic bank accounts. You know we did!

As I said earlier, Galaxy’s Edge is full of random encounters with the characters/staff. One particularly memorable event was when a young padawan stopped a couple of Stormtroopers, shown below.

The Stormtroopers seemed a little puzzled and we could only guess what sort of Jedi mind trick this youngling performed. Suffice it to say the Stormtroopers “moved along” and went on their way and left the youngling alone. It was a heartwarming experience, and one example of the many reasons why this park is so much fun. Also, the Force was truly strong with this young one!

On the other hand, after the dust settled, we almost became the next planetary visitors to be harassed by these First Order Stormtroopers.. So we stole a quick photo, shown above, and moved along ourselves! This particular Stormtrooper wasn’t too happy about getting his photo as you can see.

Stepping out from the black hole that is Star Wars merchandise alley, from where our credits will never-ever return, we were graciously greeted by one of the most awe-inspiring views a Star Wars fan can ever see.. A full-size replica of the Millennium Falcon!

Seriously, I was half expecting Chewie and Rey to come running into the Falcon being chased after by Kylo Ren and a couple of his First Order Stormtroopers. The photos above don’t do it justice.  So here’s a panorama we compiled from a batch of close-up photos we took (side and top view),

The sheer size of it is impressive! Seriously, you have to see it with your own eyes to truly get the breadth of it. The childhood Skkawlings in us were certainly justified for this visit and overjoyed by the sight of it.

After taking a million photos, we moved on to the main attraction of Galaxy’s Edge, the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. This ride puts you in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon with six other people. It’s a fun ride the whole family can enjoy, provided you don’t get motion sickness (as in any type of simulation ride). Check out the official preview from Disney below:

Since this is currently the park’s main attraction (until Rise of the Resistance opens), the lines to the ride can be loooong. In our experience, the line can take at least 30 minutes, that’s if you line up when the park opens. It can take longer than an hour during peak hours. They do keep you entertained while waiting in line. You basically walk through a hanger full of space junk, jet engines and you eventually get introduced to Hondo Ohnaka, a character first seen in The Clone Wars.. Hondo, an animatronic robot, provides you with your “smugglers mission” or the back story to the ride.  The animatronics for Hondo is quite impressive, super smooth and entertaining to watch.

Without giving too much away, if you ever get to visit Galaxy’s Edge, we highly recommend your biggest Star Wars fan from your crew ride on the top right seat or the right pilot seat. This is the most exciting position as you get to manipulate most of the Falcon’s piloting controls and yes, you even get to pull the lever to go to hyperspace!

Suffice it to say, we had a lot of fun during our visit to Galaxy’s Edge! If you’re a casual Star Wars fan you can walk through the park in a single morning. If you’re a more engaged Star Wars fan like us, you could spend the entire day there. For example, we really made the most of our visit to this galaxy far far away and couldn’t contain all our adventures in a single post. See below:

Welcome, Skkawliens, to our Diablo IV playtest experience! As one of the most hotly anticipated Blizzard games of this year, I was really looking forward to playing this game! And sure enough, Diablo IV did not disappoint. For context, this post will focus on my impression and experience playing the Diablo IV demo at Blizzcon 2019. Unlike other reviews, my goal is to share the aspects of the game that I enjoyed the most being a long time Diablo fan. With that said, you may want to look elsewhere if you’re looking for a more technical review of the game (there are plenty of which online). And now, onward brave wanderer, to the depths of the Sanctuary!

Sorceress Supreme

At Blizzcon, I was lucky enough to have played all three character classes available at the demo (there will be 5 character classes on release). Now During my first playtest, I choose the Sorceress class to start. Playing the Sorceress was like catching up with an old friend.  Her attack and power felt familiar and natural.  And to me, they should, as the Sorceress is a character class inherited from Diablo II – which I spent countless hours playing in my youth.

The Sorceress’ abilities are ranged attacks using fire, ice, and lightning. The gameplay was pretty straightforward as any Diablo game, point, click destroy. Right-click Fire Bolt, left-click Frost Bolt and you get a mix of special abilities to start including Blizzard, Lightning Spear, Meteor and Conduit. You activate these abilities by pressing numbers 1-4 on the keyboard.

Now after choosing my character class and doing the obligatory intro level and cinematics/cutscenes, I just went out into the Sanctuary (the world of Diablo) and made my own path.  What I mean is, I didn’t talk to any of the NPCs or follow any of the quests. I just went wandering!  You see that is what’s great about Diablo IV, it’s now an open world. You’re no longer limited by linear gameplay. You can do what you want when you want to. I found it fun not having to tackle mandatory quests and just do my own thing, exploring the world of Sanctuary on my own. This is in contrast to Diablo III where the first you have to do is follow one quest after another to get a point where you can go exploring (and even then you could still feel tied down by the plot).

But I wasn’t alone for long! After a bit of exploring, and a few random encounters later,  I had stumbled upon what is called a World Event. An event where players can band together and fight one big HUGE monster.  I mean:

Right. One minute, I’m wandering the sanctuary just minding my own business and then suddenly I’m smack in the middle of what felt like a total warzone. I couldn’t even begin to tell what was happening because I had one goal: to survive. But ASHAVA, THE PETTILENT, the big baddie pictured above, had other plans:

Yup. My character died 3 times. 3 times. They did not make this easy and I loved it.  It definitely made me feel the risk that went with dealing with these World Events. But, after a few more re-spawns our group was able to deal with ASHAVA. We were victorious!

The World Event was definitely a whole lot of fun to play. Maybe next time I’ll be able to survive a bit longer..

But wait, there’s more! I was then able to playtest the Druid class.

Druid’s Our Guy!

I have to say, the Druid was certainly was the con favorite. What makes this character so special is that he can transform into an animal to beat your enemies. For one example, he can transform into a bear. Check out the short gameplay clips below as they show the sheer awesomeness of the Druid in action:

They really were able to make the gameplay feel fluid between transforming your character into a bear and into its human form. And if that wasn’t enough here’s another short clip:

Who doesn’t want to hurtle a giant rock at some skeleton warriors? Winner.

Another thing I really appreciated about Diablo IV, is the attention to detail. In previous Diablo games you could interact with the environment. Like let’s say destroy a bench or search through a bookcase.  But here the world just felt a bit more interactive, take for instance the clip below.  Basically, I took a moment from my busy adventuring to stop and just watch my wolf buddies.

You can see them nibbling like an ordinary wolf and the swaying of the grass just completes the effect. It’s kind of hard to see but the wolf behind my Druid character even does a little shake!

Also, similarly,  there was another moment I couldn’t help but take stock of the waves as the water hit the coast. See below:

I had to let my companions do all the work and deal with all our undead counterparts as I took a moment to take in the world around me.  I really just enjoyed taking a moment and enjoying the scene.

Speaking about companions, it was great that they let us play together in groups.  Basically, some computers were linked together.  They set it up so we could invite other players, see below:

I’m not sure if this is going to be the same interface we’ll use in the final game to invite other players to play, but it certainly was useful during the demo.  I had no problem inviting one of my buddies to join my game and start playing together.

Lastly, I played as the Barbarian class. Below is a shot from the cutscene of the demo.

Barbarian and Multiplayer Fun

Speaking about cutscenes, they definitely went in a much darker direction for this game. at one point, your character is basically crawling out of a cave and he/she looks into what you initially think is water and your character’s reflection. But nope:

Shudders. This game definitely took a turn for the dark, but for a game that literally takes you to Hell for the end boss battle, it works. The land of the sanctuary is a dangerous place, good thing they got us to save the people (they are all doomed, haha).

For this playtest, I actually went to town and talked to the townsfolk to receive my quest. Again, since this is an open-world environment, you have to be proactive and find the right NPCs to speak to to get your quest. One of my buddies from Blizzcon tagged along with me, she was playing the Sorceress above. See below a short clip of my Barbarian and my buddy’s Sorceress questing together.

Also, obviously the Barbarian himself is just a fun class to play.  See below a short gameplay clip for the Barbarian just plowing through enemies. No complaints here.

And there you have it! From the moment I selected my first character class to the time I found myself fighting the first hordes of the undead, I was impressed. It felt like the Diablo of old but fresh, relevant and new.

Final thoughts:

I also went around the convention hall asking people what they thought of the Diablo IV demo if they had any issues or concerns with the game.  I was really trying to play Devil’s advocate, but there weren’t any takers, no one had anything negative to say about the game.

Everyone I spoke to at Blizzcon about Diablo IV  seemed to have the same consensus as me: Diablo IV is shaping up to be a really good predecessor of the Diablo games of old..  And from what I heard from the Diablo Developers on the show floor, they’re really getting a lot of their inspiration from Diablo II and Diablo I (not that Diablo III wasn’t as good but going back to the roots of the game feels right). For example, pictured above is Brom’s original art for the cover of the Diablo II game. In my opinion, this photo alone show’s there’s so much to pull from for this game. With that said, I for one cannot wait for when this game will be released. Only time will tell when though Blizzard will be ready to release this game to the public, but until then we’ll just have to wait and see.

SDCC has a plethora of exclusives that people clamor for each year. 2019 was no different. Of course, it’s impossible to get them all but now that a little time has passed it’s possible to get them online for a little cheaper. And, if you’re patient, the prices might continue to drop for many of these items over the next few months. There are exceptions to that rule for items that become collector’s items. We’d like to show you some of the coolest exclusives we picked up this year and provide eBay links in case you wanna snag one for yourself.

Skkaw’s Exclusive Picks

Prior to SDCC Marvel had already advertised these exclusive 100soft Marvel Avengers posters.  Seeing as I’m obviously a big Marvel fan, this was one of the first things I bought at the convention.  They were super limited, only about 150 made per design.  I even got to meet the artist at the 100soft booth! My favorite, of course, is the Endgame poster with the giant-sized Ant-Man.  If you’re interested you can check out at least one poster on sale at eBay here.

As part of my SDCC exclusive lottery, I was lucky enough to have gotten the Lego Sith Trooper bust.  You can get it via eBay here

One of the exclusively sought items at the Hasbro booth this year was the Magic the Gathering Dragon’s set. If you’re interested there are some resellers selling them on eBay here.

Another exclusive from Hasbro was the Transformers Card Game that featured 2 Large Foil cards of Blaster and Soundwave.  Being fans of the 80s classic cartoon we had to snag this one!  If you’re interested, you can also find this on eBay here.

Lastly, one of the hardest things to get during the convention (but now easily available over eBay) were the exclusive Marvel pins.  As you can see I didn’t waste any time and I immediately pinned them to my con bag!  All of the pins you can most probably find from third-party resellers on eBay here.

Justin’s Exclusive Picks

I didn’t expect it to be so popular but one of my most unexpected and cool exclusive buys was this awesome SDCC 2019 Spawn #299 comic and Spawn #300 print. Number 299  has art by Franceso Mattina and the print is of issue 300 with cover art by Greg Capullo. You can find the comic here and the print here.

  Check out this super awesome exclusive Captain Marvel Lego set complete with a lego flerken! You can buy the exclusive SDCC 2019 Captain Marvel Lego on eBay here.

My pride and joy from SDCC 2019 was being able to pick up this SDCC 2019 X Batman Funko Pop! exclusive, plus a Funko Pop! of the San Diego Comic Con Mascot, Toucan! Check out ones on sale here – I think they’re pretty reasonably priced! Here’s a Batman link and a Toucan link.

I also snagged some sweet enamel pins from various comic booths.

From right to left: Murder Falcon “Eat Metal” pin, Star Wars Han Solo in carbonite and blaster pin, Spawn and Batman mash-up pin, and the Ghost Key pin from IDW’s Locke & Key. Type these in on any search engine and you should be able to find them.

Last but not least, I was able to pick up a copy of the SDCC 2019 exclusive cover of the final issue of Image comic’s The Walking Dead (#193). Look for one here.

There was so much see at SDCC!  We thought we’d take you on a little tour the popular attractions of the SDCC 2019 exhibit hall floor. Before we get started, here’s a map to help you visualize our tour:

We’ll start from the entrance at Hall D, taking a right at the Hasbro booth and making our way along the exhibit hall. We’ll end up at the booth of our friends from the Cartoon Art Museum, because if we didn’t stop somewhere this post would go waaay longer!

So, starting at the Hasbro booth, we were instantly mesmerized by their giant-sized transformer on display: Unicron. If you’re not familiar, Unicron is a planet-eating transformer first introduced in the 1986 animated Transformers movie. Childhood Skkaw was drooling for this guy. Where were you when I was a wee Skkawling! But adult me was doing the math and couldn’t quite find a place for it in my apartment.  Still, this toy was a sight to behold. If you are interested in this moon-sized behemoth, you can pre-order it from Hasbro Pulse here.

Next up, the Star Wars display.  This year they had the different Stormtrooper costumes, including the newly announced Red Sith Trooper that will make its debut in the upcoming Star Wars movie Rise of the Skywalker. I have to say this got us all hyped up for what’s going to be the last installment of the Skywalker Saga.

And there was a similar theme at the LEGO Booth. For starters, they had a life-sized LEGO Sith Trooper that reportedly took 250 hours to make.  Additionally, they also had an Avengers Endgame Iron Man took which took 5 hours longer or 255 hours to make. Now that’s some LEGO builder dedication right there!

At the Marvel booth, they had some costumes and props from the Avengers Endgame and Captain Marvel movies.  We were impressed with Stormbreaker, the broken Iron Man mask and STARK ARC reactor on display.  But what was most impressive was the broken Captain America shield, e.g., we’re guessing from Captain America: Civil War.

Another thing that we enjoyed was the Sideshow booth.  If you’re not familiar, Sideshow sells very detailed pop-culture figures and collectibles.  At their booth, what we were most drawn to was the Avengers Endgame figures. It was like they took these straight out of the movie! Check them out below.

Lastly, just beside the Sideshow booth was the Cartoon Art Museum (CAM). If you’re not familiar with them, CAM is a museum dedicated to comic strips, comic books, anime, political cartoons, graphic novels, and underground comix.  It’s located along San Francisco’s historic Fisherman’s Wharf.  They had a booth at SDCC and it was great to catch-up with our friends at the CAM there.

Skkawliens, the time has come – for San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC)! We thought it would be cool to discuss as a first-timer (Justin) and a veteran (Skkaw) what our plans are for the world’s biggest comic and popular art convention.

Justin The SDCC Initiate

As my first time attending SDCC, preparing has been a little overwhelming but very exciting. My interest when it comes to conventions is meeting creators whose art or stories I love, so that is what I’ll be focusing most on at SDCC. But I am also going to try to be open to going with the flow if any once in a lifetime opportunities come my way; I suppose this relates to meeting celebrities and going to panels. I am also very interested in exclusives since this is my first comic con. I would love to get things for my friends and family too!

BCW Supplies Stor-Folio 1.5″ Comic Book (Holds 15-20 Comics)

Solo Duane 15.6 Inch Laptop Hybrid Briefcase, Converts to Backpack, Grey

Honestly, I started preparing months ago. I started by buying some supplies like extra BCW comic book folios to keep my comics in good shape during the convention and a new bag that would work well in the crowded SDCC halls. I chose the Solo Duane Hybrid Briefcase Backpack because it can be worn as a messenger or a backpack and has just the right amount of space for me. I also own ThinkGeek’s popular Bag of Holding – Con Survival Edition, but I tried it at Fanime and just found it to be too small for my needs. If you are a light packer and want to display pins then this bag is a great choice.

As it got closer to the con, I made a Google Sheet with all of the creators I thought I might be able to meet with columns that I could fill in like what day/time they would be there and at what booth. I also added a column for what comics or things I might bring for these creators to sign. I started by dreaming big, knowing that there is no way I’ll get to everyone on this list.

Next, I started surfing the internet on sites like sdccblog.com (The Unofficial SDCC Blog), the SDCC Reddit pages, and Twitter for any great insider scoops. I used this information to fill in tabs in my Google Sheets; I made an additional tab for exclusives and one for my schedule for each day of the convention, taking any artist signings and combining them with panels to create a schedule. I’ve been trying to look at these sheets and update once or twice a week. Speaking of creators, here’s a short list of who I am extra pumped to meet:

Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodrigez – Locke & Key

Kieron Gillen – The Wicked + The Divine, Die, and Phonogram

Daniel Warren Johnson – Murder Falcon and Extremity

Joshua Williamson – Birthright and Nailbiter

My Favorite Batmen – Greg Capullo, Jock, Scott Snyder, and Jim Lee

Stanley “Artgerm” Lau – I love all his work, but his Catwoman is ****

Jen Bartel – I love all her work. Her recent Venom and Thanos Marvel Tales Covers are out of this world. Somebody will need to hold me back from buying all the prints. . . or not and I will buy them, mwah ha ha!

I also have a decent list of exclusives I am interested in, but I know that a lot of them are based on a lottery and I’m not sure I’ll get any. The exclusive I most want is this Batman Funko holding an SDCC bag.

Like everyone else I would love that Lego Captain Marvel set that comes with a Lego Flerken, but that will probably be one of the hottest items. I do have my eye on a few other things that seem within reach and I’ve got them all marked up on my trusty Google Sheet. I am hoping to maybe get one really cool exclusive and just forget the rest. I probably don’t need that junk, said the bitter loser who would have bought it had they been chosen (choose me!).

Another way that I’ve prepared for the con is by packing all of the comics I might want to bring in one of these big plastic short bins:

I’m taking my car so I’ll have the luxury of having space, otherwise I’d have to be a little more thoughtful about what I was putting in my comic book folios, and I will have to do that each day either way. Also, I’ll be preparing any comics I want signed and graded by CGC or CBCS using this comic prepping method that I found before my last big con. It is super helpful to prep your comics.

Lastly, I have to stop and tell myself to breathe. You will spend all your money. You will have a good time. You will SURVIVE! Okay, just writing this is getting me excited. This is the good kind of anxious energy and I am here for it.

Skkaw the SDCC Veteran

This will be my third SDCC. Third! I can’t believe it. I’m really grateful, I covered SDCC last year, and I’m very excited to go back. My goal this year is to try and cover the biggest attractions at the con. Be it catching a glimpse of my favorite comic celebrities, to visiting the over-the-top booths or meeting some of the most influential comic creators. And this being the 50th SDCC to date, there are a lot of attractions to look forward to:

Marvel Cinematic Universe – Kevin Feige set to make an announcement

DC Universe: Doom Patrol, Titans

HBO Shows: Game of Thrones, Westworld

DISNEY TV: MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., The Orville, Bob’s Burgers

To name just a few, there are many more!

Even if I encounter just a few of the attractions it would already be a larger than geek-life experience. But that’s not all! No SDCC experience would be complete without:

In my experience, you can go to SDCC one year and have a totally different experience from the last year.  I am so looking forward to going again this year and comparing my experience from SDCC 2018.  I’m pretty sure though, whatever happens, it’s going to be an awesome con!

Welcome to our Maker Faire Bay Area 2019 coverage. Unless you’re well versed in recent uptake in Do-It-Yourself culture, you may be unfamiliar with the Maker Faire. The Maker Faire is a gathering for people of all ages for a showcase of invention, innovation, and creativity. One of the two flagship events in North America, the annual Maker Faire Bay Area, along with its east coast counterpart in New York, can welcome a combined 2,000 makers and 200,000 attendees each year.

We had a blast covering the Maker Faire Bay Area this year.  It would have been awesome if you could have joined us, but if you couldn’t or want to know what it was like, we’re here to share our amazing experience of this event with you.

Show Floor Highlights

We met a lot of interesting Makers this year.  Projects like a build it yourself Smart Speaker you can teach and a cardboard beatbox you can pack flat and bring anywhere. How-to Workshops

We were also able to attend a few workshops that caught our interest.  Now, this is by no means representative of all the workshops that were available at the Maker Faire.  We couldn’t attend them all of course, even if we really really wanted to!  The workshops we were able to attend included: Handcrafting with Soft Circuits, Light-up Cosplay and Easy Screenprinting with Vinyl. Maker Faire Cosplay

The cosplay game at the Maker Faire this year was amazing.  But what is equally fascinating is the emphasis on cosplay crafting at the Maker Faire. Mech Warfare

What would a Maker Faire be without its robot battles?  In particular, we were captivated by the Mech Warfare booth.  In this event, remote controlled quad-legged drone robots battle it off for supremacy, using BB-guns and pink Post-Its as targeting pads.  Believe us, it was a lot of fun to watch and we were very impressed with the homebrew robotic competitors. FanimeCon, being Northern California’s larges anime convention, draws a lot of attendees.
