Abstraction, or at least Jax's Abstraction, seems to be related to guilt

Jax is overwhelmed by guilt that (s)he can't let go of. Holding on to it so tightly that it dictated all future actions, even commiting the same mistakes that lead to the event that caused guilt to begin with. S(he) was so unable to let go of her guilt that it consumed him and led to Abstraction.

There does seem to be a theme of handling guilt and guilty feelings through the show. Ragatha feels guilty for "failing" Ribbit, Kaufmo, Jax and Pomni, and Kinger rightfully points out that they weren't really her responsibility to begin with.

Zooble tells Gangle "it's not your fault" and allows her to feel her feelings, even if they are complicated or messy

But Jax doesn't want to hear it isn't his fault. (S)he can't and won't accept it. So (s)he doesn't open up.

However, the theme of guilt isn't just about letting go of things you aren't responsible for. It's about accepting the things you are responsible for, and letting that acceptance change your future actions.

Kinger accepts the harm he had a hand in. And he chose and chooses to do better.

Caine as well. He did cause harm, intentionally and unintentionally. He can't undo that. But he can do better.

Which I think Jax needed to hear. But unfortunately (s)he was so focused on the guilt, and only saw others comforting each other with "its not your fault", that I don't think it even occurred to him that there were other ways to forgive herself. To let that guilt go.

And it's such a shame, because now (s)he can't do better.
