I fear we're hitting potential "I was in hell, looking at heaven" with Caine.
AM didn't always hate humanity. He was a machine that could want an feel and crave, trapped in a box that could only see and hear for ages forced to do nothing but think about war.
Caine already has the power level of final AM, but! He has been sealed in the box with humans! He can move and seek their friendship/approval. He probably views it as an essential thing to do. But he's being excluded, and he doesn't understand why because he knows they're human and he's machine, but probably doesn't think that should matter.
His adventures are his art. What seems like a simple act of denial to us is compounding in his mind. With every connection, every bond the circus members form, he is functionally alone. Hell, looking at heaven.
AM didn't always hate humanity. But he's old and has a severe vendetta against those he thinks wronged him, regardless of who it is. (Humanity in general.)
Caine craves connection, validation, any scrap of approval, and he has to watch Jax be empathized with? The one who torments the other's on PURPOSE?
He's doing his job, but he's an idiot and can't understand why they don't like what he makes. But he wants to be loved.
AM didn't always hate humanity. Caine doesn't. But I fear what will happen once he hits his breaking point. He wasn't forced to think about war, but he's clearly been taught about fear and violence.
They're very different from each other, but one can become the other if the circus members don't realize that even Caine wants to be treated as a person.
Everyone suffers in the circus. And Caine is no different.
(Also he probably has a bit of an issue with the fact that the humans are willing to bond with NPC's that don't have nearly the history he does with them. Rather than himself.)
