InLoveAThon Wrap-Up
Hello there! Well, this readathon didn’t go as well as I had hoped, but for my standards of books per week it was amazing! I managed to read 3 of the 5 books on the TBR, which is an achievement. I’ve just Day One (9/2): On the first day of the InLoveAThon (Friday 9th), I was still about 3/4 of the way through Illuminae by Amie Kauffman and Jay Kristoff – which I managed to finish mid-afternoon!…

Happy (almost) Valentine’s Day lovely readers!
In order to celebrate the day of love, I’m taking part in this week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt! This is my first foray into the Top Ten Tuesday meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, and you can find the weekly prompts here.
This week, I have chosen to list my Top Ten Romance Authors. Most of my choices on this list are books I’ve read that give me relaxing, summery vibes, as normally those sort of contemporary books have the romances that I like to read best! However, this list is not strictly contemporary YA books, as that isn’t the only genre I read.
In no particular order, here are my Top Ten YA authors who write (in my opinion) the best romances:
Becky Albertalli
First off, the most recent romances I’ve read, and almost certainly some of my all-time favourites come from none other than Becky Albertalli. Her books have ll the ingredients of typical YA romance, but bring reality deeper into the plot and characters, drawing me right into the experience. I really connected with Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda in a way that I hadn’t connected to a YA romance in a while – I was actually squealing and sighing in delight when the inevitable romance becomes reality.
Cassandra Clare
Now, first on this list is Cassandra Clare, who isn’t a contemporary author, but oh my lord are her romances written well. All of her novels in the Shadowhunter Chronicles involve multiple romances, and there is always one that is full of angst and passion – and I am here for them. In particular, The Infernal Devices contains my favourite romantic relationship from her yet. The love is dramatic, entertaining, and actually one where I care about all three people involved.
Rick Riordan
Okay but seriously, have you ever read a Rick Riordan book that had a romantic sub-plot, where the romance wasn’t awesome?? As his books are middle-grade, the romances aren’t steamy or riddled with sexual tension. However, they are undeniably sweet and feel so, so real. Of course, my favourite romantic relationship within Rick’s books are from his (completed) series concerning the Greek Gods: Percy Jackson & The Olympians and The Heroes of Olympus, between Percy and Annabeth. I almost can’t describe it, but their relationship is so pure, adorable and most of all  healthy. They build each other up, support each other and just all-round are a great match. Highly recommend.
 Morgan Matson
And now we move on to the contemporary books! Morgan Matson writes such fun novels, which are the perfect summer-y romance fix! So far I’ve only read two of her books, but they are both filled with flirty, adorable high school romance.
 Stephanie Perkins
These books were so much fun! Stephanie Perkins writes such perfectly angsty but equally adorable romances, with some actual dreamboat love interests for the main characters.
Kiera Cass
How could I talk about romance and neglect this series? While these books definitely are not the best that I have ever read, they are so fun, engaging and quick to read that they are definitely a favourite romance. I’ve probably read The Selection 3-4 times just because the romance is so sweet and it’s so quick to read!
 Jenny Han
Jenny Han always produces fun contemporary novels with interesting romances and enjoyable characters to read, who grow, change and develop throughout the series.
 John Green
I don’t love all of John Green’s books. I like most of them, but the ones that I do love, I absolutely love. The Fault in Our Stars will always remain a favourite romance of mine, no matter how much the hype may annoy me, because I believe it really is a great YA love story with great dramatics. While Turtles All the Way Down may be a favourite of mine for more reasons that the romance, it was still a really enjoyable aspect of the book.
 Nicola Yoon
I devoured Nicola Yoon’s novels. Everything, Everything managed to surprise me with plot twists, and I absolutely adored the main love interest. The Sun is Also A Star may have been a tad predictable, but I find that in YA romance that doesn’t take any from the reading experience – I find them equally as satisfying when I know that the main characters are going to instantly form strong connections and ‘insta-love’ occurs. It’s what I’m here for in most of my reading for romance.
 Rainbow Rowell
Finally, Rainbow Rowell is another master of romance. Now that I’m at the end of my list, I can’t think of a new way to describe that I love her novels because they are fun, character-driven novels that are easy to engage with and perfectly adorable.
Who are your favourite romance authors? Let me know in the comments!
Happy reading!
Bec 🙂
My first #TopTenTuesday ! I do love me some classic YA romance with a cutie for the main love interest... Happy (almost) Valentine's Day lovely readers! In order to celebrate the day of love, I'm taking part in this week's Top Ten Tuesday prompt!
Hello there!
This post is all about the books I’m planning to read for the upcoming InLoveAThon. The InLoveAThon is a Valentine’s Day themed readathon, hosted over Valentine’s day from the 9th-15th Feb. I’ve decided to participate in the InLoveAThon this year because Uni doesn’t start for another 2 weeks, so I need this time to read as many books as I can! Also, I am a sucker for romance books, and summer is the perfect time to read some!
There are 10 challenges for the readathon which I have listed below, but but you only have to choose 7 of them. Without any further ado, here are my choices (and their challenges):
Read a book from your favourite romance author.
The Upside of Unrequited – Becky Albertalli
I’m really excited for this one! I just read Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda this week and loved it, so I count Becky Albertalli as a fave romance author!
Read a book that has your favourite romantic trope.
Read a book with a prince/princess.
The Song of Achilles – Madeline Miller
I’m keen to pick up The Song of Achilles – Ancient Greece/Classics is a huge passion of mine, so I’m sure i’m going to love it (even though I’m not actually too sure what exactly the plot is)!
Read an original fairytale and watch the Disney movie or a film adaptation.
Read a book while eating some Valentine treats.
The Upside of Unrequited – Becky Albertalli
Challenge #5 is probably my favourite – it’s fun and is very flexible! Anything that justifies snacking and/or wine is an absolute winner in my books. And The Upside of Unrequited seems like it will be the perfect fit.
Read a book that takes place in a location where you would love to spend Valentine’s Day.
Read a book with pink or red in the cover.
The Rosie Project – Graeme Simsion
The Rosie Project has been on my radar for years – and I’m so excited to finally read a Melbourne-based contemporary novel!
Read an LGBTQ+ love story.
History is All You Left Me – Adam Silvera
Adam Silvera has so much hype around him at the moment, so I’m looking forward to finally diving into one of his books!
Read a classic love story.
Wuthering Heights – Emily Bronte
I need to read Wuthering Heights one for university, but also it’s one that I’ve wanted to read ever since it was Bella Swan’s favourite book (yes, I was a diehard Twilight fan. I was also about 12 sooooo)
Read one of the hosts favourite Contemporary/Historical Romance books.
The Song of Achilles – Madeline Miller
I’ve doubled up a little bit, but only because 5 books in a week will be a lot for me – and I will have a few social things going on!
Wish my luck on this readathon journey, and let me know if you’re participating/what you think of any of the books I have listed! Happy reading, -Bec 🙂
