one time i was behind a car with a plate that said like luvbug or some shit & i was like Oh Fuck Yes & then on the way home i somehow wound up behind the Same Car & i was like oh my god oh jesus christ yes. once i saw a plate that said PROTEIN & i almost crashed my car

Oh I have SO many of these!!!! Virginia has the highest number of vanity tags in the US and I have SO much proof.

Idk if you know, but Virginia has plates based on the no step on snek flag, and. The people who have those plates are almost always bad drivers, and many of them have hilarious vanity tags like:

Okay so. This tag. I saw this person at the gas station. The tag did not prepare me for the person who got out of this car. He looked like the Wes Anderson platonic ideal of the devil. He was wearing a red suit, a suede like fabric? A darker red shirt, super skinny black tie. The tiniest black circle frame sunglasses that still did absolutely cover his eyes. He had. I am not joking, a van dyke, pointy tip on the goatee and waxed moustache ends and all. I did not take a photo of him because 1) that’s an invasion of privacy too far 2) he would have taken me back to Hell Which Is Real And Where He Lives with him.

And lastly. My number one vanity tag I’ve ever seen of all time. Number one car plates, I give you:

It was long believed in New England that New Hampshire had the greatest amounts of vanity plates in the country, due to its low fee for personal registrations. Interesting to see that Virginia has given them a serious run for their tax dollars.  It’s also obvious that Virginia, like New Hampshire’s nearby neighbor Maine, has fewer content restrictions on plates, which certainly allows for a greater variety of options.  Although, some edgy content does get through NH's filters...

(Yes, the top two are on VW Bugs. There are so many BUG-related vanity plates on VW Beetles, one might think it was a requirement.) 

The ones that mystify me are the ones where the person is clinging to where they used to be, using the New Hampshire plate to declare this.

And the ones I love are the nerdy references.

But I do have a soft spot for the ones that I simply don’t understand.

While some may criticize the ouroboros of entertainment media, it’s nice to know that certain formative pop culture milestones that deeply affected me also seem to have had a significant impact on those making further entertainment.

I swear to you, there is no Earthly reason why these things should be “in my orbit”.  My feed is mostly film stars from the ‘60s and music from the ‘90s, and neither of those things translates into “Gerard Way or Warren Ellis fans with Netflix accounts”.  Seriously. I am generally glad that it’s changed from “This post sucks” to “This particular post isn’t for me”, as I used to feel guilty about dismissing perfectly nice posts I didn’t care about.  But at the moment, I wish I had the stronger option with which to register the ferocity of the inaccuracy of these “suggestions”.

Put Tidal into my computer to do a retrospective listen leading up to Fetch The Bolt Cutters and was greeted with a series of program files for an “Enhanced CD” experience, all mostly incompatible with a modern computer. I was able to salvage the “animated” welcome screen that would have loaded on my 1996 Mac.

Turned this thing back on to find — a month later than everyone else — that one post on each of my four blogs had been hidden away from prying eyes.  Considering I don’t post “adult” material beyond the occasional un-Senatorial epithet (hashtag: already-dated topical reference), I was surprised.  Here’s what I know and what I surmise:

My Josh Groban on NMTB post had been flagged by someone when I posted it, because I posted it on Mother’s Day and it’s a little cynical.  That got hidden, I assume because of the flag.  Or “rubbish” is deeply hateful invective.

My Easy A/John Hughes comparison post got dinged, I assume because of implied nudity.  This is my second most reposted entry on that blog, so I wasn’t having that.  Luckily, the lack of actual nipples meant it was easily restored by whichever “real human” took a look at it.

I used the word “phallic” in the commentary on this Batman/The Squid post about the problems with squid imagery perhaps crossing the line into Middle School Giggles territory.  Apparently the image-comparison AI has the same arrested development.

Lastly, the algorithm apparently doesn’t like zombies.  Or something.  Who knows?
